I often struggle with hats purchased online as I have a large head 61cm/62cm (7 5/8″) depending on manufacturer – however, this hat fits well and has a draw-string for smaller bonces. I can’t accurately gauge the sun protection as the hat has only been worn in an English summer thus far, which has been a bit overcast, but the waterproofing is fine! I may return to review again once the hat has survived the monsoon climate it was purchased for… it is certainly very lightweight!

I have no idea how I’ve only just found these Columbia hats but I am addicted.
Simple adjustable design really does fit all sizes and I particularly like that I can adjust it for if my hair is up or down and therefore thicker or thinner. It folds into nothing and was light and comfortable, keeping my face shaded but my head cool and has a handy chin strap for windy conditions. Definitely the best I’ve had.

I used this on a 30 mile hike on the hottest day of the year so far. It kept the sun from grilling me to death especially on the first 15 miles which was mostly very exposed. The rim can flap a bit but I personally barely noticed. The mesh is a god send especially if there is some breeze. The fit was perfect and the chin strap kept it in place even during some pretty strong gusts. Quite frankly it did the job it was bought for and did it excellently I was very happy with it.

I didn’t research this hat enough prior to purchasing two of them. Whilst they are nice looking hats that fit well, I have to question how much protection from the sun the large area of mesh provides – I would envisage having a tan in the shape of the mesh!

It makes no sense to me for what is being sold as a sun hat with UPF50 protection to them have areas that are open to the sun, therefore allowing UV in.

I’ll stick to my Outdoor Research and Craghoppers for now as neither has any large vented area.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI spent a long time looking at cheaper alternatives to this hat and in the end just went with the Columbia. Maybe the cheaper hats would have been just as good but I am happy with this product. The brim does flop around a bit, but it’s not too bad and you can ‘mould’ it away from your face quite easily. In the end I don’t think it looks too bad at all, but who cares when you’re not getting sun bu

A great hat for the garden as it washes and dries nicely. Nice wide brim to keep the sun off and the string on the chin keeps it from blowing off in the wind.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThus has been a great hat. It is lightweight, adjusts round the side and has a chin strap so good in the wind. The peak isn’t that solid so does flap a bit when very windy. The peak not being solid does allow for it to pack down really well though. Would recommend.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is my second one of these (I lost the first), and it’s not as good. Other reviewers mentioned the brim being too floppy, and that’s exactly the case. If there’s any wind, it will constantly be blowing in your face.

Otherwise it does the job nicely, cool to wear, and about as stylish as it’s possible for this sort of hat to be (which isn’t much).

Bought this hat for using in summer hikes and coastal rowing as protection from the sun. Very lightweight and comfortable with adjustable strap. Plenty of air circulation help to keep sweat away.
Only negative remark is that this item is not very good to be used in very windy conditions as not rigid.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI bought this after my trusty old sun hat went mysteriously missing, and was happy to find this one actually superior, especially since it’s incredibly light weight, which is perfect for the sunny days when I tend to be using it. The fabric is light but feels quite tough, and has certainly held up despite lots of scratches from branches and other brush that I’ve gone trekking through. The brim is really wide so fully protects my face and ears, and back of my neck.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersLightweight, good quality. The rim is a bit floppy but I can’t anticipate that being a problem. I struggle to find hats that fit (size 60cm are usually too tight for me) so expected to be sending this back, however its fits very comfortably. Overall very pleased with it.

Golden Review Award: 19 From Our UsersLoved it, I felt like a real adventurer! It kept sun off my face and neck in the south of france but then I left it on a chair in the town of Sete. Bought another one since, I think that the lost hat will be having a great time living in the south of france, bit jealous of it really.
It’s lightweight and can be folded small enough to be stuffed into my trouser pocket or you can just let it hang behind your head. It’s a hat for life.

Golden Review Award: 55 From Our UsersI was on some fieldwork recently and needed a way to keep the sun off my neck while also showing to the world that I’m an archaeologist with zero employable skills and an unjustifiable obsession with old bits of pot hidden in the earth. This hat, with its dull grey overtone and shape that cries “practical first, sexy last” was the perfect hat for the job.

In all seriousness, very lightweight, breathable, and durable. It’s my second of these hats (my first is desert sand coloured in case I need to camouflage myself when fighting off bad guys in Egypt; this one was for mountain camouflage). And the strap is effective without you having to garrote yourself to stop it flying off in the wind. My one gripe is the slightly flimsy rim, which occasionally decided to buckle right over my eyes and blind me. If this is likely to annoy you, a study pith helmet might suit better.

I wanted a hat that was pretty much go anywhere do anything and would give me good sun protection and feel comfy. This is a great hat with a wide rim and very flexible fit. I cut the straps off because I don’t like straps under my chin but there is an elastic bungee at the back which does the job perfectly and having just been out in a strong breeze I can confirm it stays put.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersFairly happy with this hat would have like it to be slightly smaller … However it does have the drawstring … And its slightly floppy .. Plus points is very light and airy and love the fact under the brim it a darker shade better for the eyes ….

Great hat, albeit (as some others have suggested) the brim is a little floppy.

Bought to wander around Disney and Universal this year and i saw a few of these there doing sterling service keeping owners heads protected from the sun.

I ordered this hat for my daughter who is off trekking to Morocco, on Sunday. The delivery was due within 7 days and it actually came on Wednesday ! I am so impressed with the hat – it is good quality , for the money and extremely impressed with the time it took to arrive – 3 days – think it came from Germany. Its a bit big for her but will give her the shade she needs and has a toggle to adjust it, so it wont blow off. I tried it on and it fit me perfectly, so I must have a big head. Anyway, I would def buy again. Well done

Perfect fit although you can make adjustments if required to make it a bit bigger or smaller.
Only criticsm is I wish the brim was a little stronger. However it still holds up well enough and absolutely does the main job with ease

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersGreat hat, great features. Wife has a North Face Hyvent Trekker Hat – this is much cooler in hot climbs and has a bigger rim and therefore more shade. Quality of materials about the same, but he vents on the Columbia are much better suited to the heat than a closed breathable material design like the Trekker. Only thing i would add to make the Bora perfect is Velcro at the sides above the ears to allow the stetson style like the NF and others have or maybe a plastic coated wire around the rim to help shape it to stay in one position, as the rim is quite large and therefore returns to being a bit floppy looking soon after shaping – both these things are aesthetic and don’t impact on function though.
