Well impressed, does what it says on the box, wasn’t sure it would, but it does, well happy
This will definitely get you out of trouble with steal stranded cable but I used it far to much and blunted them after about 200 cables so now it’s not as clean of a cut with the thicker cables but still cuts thinner wire just fine
I don’t use them that much but they come into their own when I try to cut wire my pliers can’t manage.
Comfortable handle and easy to use. I used it to cut bike brake and gear cables and its casing. Both cut cleanly and with little effort. Only used it for overhauling one bike so can’t comment on longevity.
Both tasks were performed well.
No-one makes ‘perfect’ cutters, so be prepared to file the cut ends of the outers until the cable can be inserted smoothly. Using an old cable to support the cutters helps, as it reduces the amount of ‘crush’.
Crimping was a tad fiddly, but it’s a lot better than using pliers.
Ideal for removing old guitar strings, too.
Bought these to cut catenary wire I was using to support a power and coax cable, they sliced through with no issues. As a man I had to test them a few times just to make sure they definitely worked, think I ended up with a dozen off cuts of wire before I even started the job
Cuts like a dream. Beforehand I was using “cutter” plyers and would often spend 20/30 minutes trying to get through the picture frame wire with not much luck. These are quick, easy and sturdy. The 5mm limit is legit as the cutters won’t open any further than that so if you have larger wire to snip then size up your cutters.
Very robust. Will last years.I actually purchased this to cut bike gear/brake cable.Cuts brilliantly. You dont need to spend 3 times the cost of these to get labelled bike cable cutters.
Needed to make up a wire bowden cable inner: rather than bodge up with tinsnips or cutters I invested in the proper tool for the job. Cut my cable quick, clean and fray-free and saved me so much time and grief. Even if I never use it again it’s been good value.
Some people have commented that these work well on bike cables for the first few cuts, and then after that they seem to blunt and chew up the end of the cable. I too found this, but soon realised that if you cut the cable quickly and confidently, the cut is much sharper and cleaner. If you apply pressure gradually and do a ‘slow’ cut, they do chew the end over a bit. Hope this helps people.
I purchased these to cut thick wire which was used to make a mesh cage for birds. Although they eventually cut the wire, I had to use both hands and it took alot of effort. Having said that, I would like to point out that I am a female with not much strength in my hands so I’ve no doubt this made it more difficult.
Bought to cut 4mm wire rope.
After looking around these were the lowest price from a fairly reputable brand. Made fairly light work of cutting the wire rope and well worth purchasing the right tools if you plan on working with this material.
Feel fairly well made and were able to make the 20+ cuts without a problem.
Enter the Draper Steel Wire Rope Cutter. As you can see from the video, even in a child’s hands, these cutters snip through a wire washing line easily, which is what they were bought to do. I expect they’ll be useful if I ever need to cut brake/gear cables on my bike, too.
Finish is a little rough and ready, with a little rust on the cutters when they arrived (see pics of cutting edges) , but that’s not unexpected with high carbon steel.
Bottom line: They work as required and I’m very happy with my purchase.
Bought this at same time as a different and larger pair of cutters from a shop and these cut much better and I have already stopped using the larger other brand ones as they started fraying cables when trying to cut gear and brake cables but these do it clean and quick.
Definitely worth buying, there is a very small latch on one side of the cutters you need to unlatch to use them…..took me a while before I realised as its hard to notice if you don’t know theres one there. Once I realised it was there I was surprised I didn’t see it sooner.
Feels well made and does its job very well, cuts bicycle brake and gear cables very well.
