Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersDoes the job for bike cables!
I’ve tried side cutters, mini bolt cutters and now these to cut bike cables and cable outers. These are the best by far… I had expected bolt cutters to be superior but they took multiple efforts to cut. These draper cutters can do it rather easily and leave a clean cut every time. I’d be surprised if anyone could tell the difference between these and the Park Tool version. They feel robust so I have no issues about build quality or longevity. If you want to cut anything on your bike get these!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice clean cut on 3mm rope wire 👌
Well impressed, does what it says on the box, wasn’t sure it would, but it does, well happy

    Good tool
This will definitely get you out of trouble with steal stranded cable but I used it far to much and blunted them after about 200 cables so now it’s not as clean of a cut with the thicker cables but still cuts thinner wire just fine

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersGreat for Rope Wire
I purchased these rope cutters to cut through some 3mm rope wire i had purchased. My current cutters would not cut through this thickness of steel. These cut through it like a hot knife slicing through butter! Absolutely brilliant!

A very good pair of stranded wire cutters, perfect for bike cables etc. However, and this is rather picky, to open the jaws fully the handles are very wide apart, I have big hands and this is not really a problem but some people may find this a little awkward. Having said that I would still recommend them.

4.0 out of 5 stars They cut wire
I don’t use them that much but they come into their own when I try to cut wire my pliers can’t manage.

These feel really sturdy and I have tried them on Brake cables and the outer cables too. They cut with ease and leave a tidy finish. Perfect for my workshop.

I bought them to cut some steel cable and outer casing for my bicycle….. they do that. The return spring however does keep dropping g out when they are opened wide….. I can adjust it to hopefully stop it happening….. great price though

    Easy to use
Comfortable handle and easy to use. I used it to cut bike brake and gear cables and its casing. Both cut cleanly and with little effort. Only used it for overhauling one bike so can’t comment on longevity.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThey do the job.
Purchased to cut bicycle cables and outers and to crimp the cable ends.

    Both tasks were performed well.

No-one makes ‘perfect’ cutters, so be prepared to file the cut ends of the outers until the cable can be inserted smoothly. Using an old cable to support the cutters helps, as it reduces the amount of ‘crush’.

Crimping was a tad fiddly, but it’s a lot better than using pliers.

Ideal for removing old guitar strings, too.

    Nice and sharp
Bought these to cut catenary wire I was using to support a power and coax cable, they sliced through with no issues. As a man I had to test them a few times just to make sure they definitely worked, think I ended up with a dozen off cuts of wire before I even started the job

Brilliant - using them for 1.5mm picture frame wire
Cuts like a dream. Beforehand I was using “cutter” plyers and would often spend 20/30 minutes trying to get through the picture frame wire with not much luck. These are quick, easy and sturdy. The 5mm limit is legit as the cutters won’t open any further than that so if you have larger wire to snip then size up your cutters.

    Golden Rule? Get the Tool
Needed to make up a wire bowden cable inner: rather than bodge up with tinsnips or cutters I invested in the proper tool for the job. Cut my cable quick, clean and fray-free and saved me so much time and grief. Even if I never use it again it’s been good value.

Need to be used correctly for bike cables ....
Some people have commented that these work well on bike cables for the first few cuts, and then after that they seem to blunt and chew up the end of the cable. I too found this, but soon realised that if you cut the cable quickly and confidently, the cut is much sharper and cleaner. If you apply pressure gradually and do a ‘slow’ cut, they do chew the end over a bit. Hope this helps people.

    Difficult to use
I purchased these to cut thick wire which was used to make a mesh cage for birds. Although they eventually cut the wire, I had to use both hands and it took alot of effort. Having said that, I would like to point out that I am a female with not much strength in my hands so I’ve no doubt this made it more difficult.

Made light work of 4mm wire rope
Bought to cut 4mm wire rope.

After looking around these were the lowest price from a fairly reputable brand. Made fairly light work of cutting the wire rope and well worth purchasing the right tools if you plan on working with this material.

Feel fairly well made and were able to make the 20+ cuts without a problem.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersBought for a specific job, and did it perfectly.
My plastic coated wire washing line broke and I replaced it, but then found I was left with about 60′ of plastic-coated wire, which I figured would come in handy. Sure enough, within a week, I did have a need for it, but (predictably) I couldn’t cut it with my existing pliers, so I needed some steel wire cutters.

Enter the Draper Steel Wire Rope Cutter. As you can see from the video, even in a child’s hands, these cutters snip through a wire washing line easily, which is what they were bought to do. I expect they’ll be useful if I ever need to cut brake/gear cables on my bike, too.

Finish is a little rough and ready, with a little rust on the cutters when they arrived (see pics of cutting edges) , but that’s not unexpected with high carbon steel.

Bottom line: They work as required and I’m very happy with my purchase.

A decent cutter that does its job well
Bought this at same time as a different and larger pair of cutters from a shop and these cut much better and I have already stopped using the larger other brand ones as they started fraying cables when trying to cut gear and brake cables but these do it clean and quick.

Definitely worth buying, there is a very small latch on one side of the cutters you need to unlatch to use them…..took me a while before I realised as its hard to notice if you don’t know theres one there. Once I realised it was there I was surprised I didn’t see it sooner.

Feels well made and does its job very well, cuts bicycle brake and gear cables very well.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersAlternative to expensive bike cable cutter. It is up to the job, with bit more effort.
Bought it for cutting bike cables and outer cables, it is up to the job. I still find it is instresting that for the same design and style, bike cable cutters can charge normally between 2 to 3 times higher pirce compare to the general purpose ones. I have owned a IceToolz bike cable cutter for few years which worked great. This Draper one works no difference when cutting inner cables, but slightly mis-cut the outer cables a bit, especially for brake cable. I need to do extra filing down the sharpe edges when compared with the cut made by IceToolz. So there are some difference between those two. But I cannot justify paying twice the price. I possibly keep my bike ones for bike, and use the Draper one to cut everything else. At least the Draper is cheaper to replace.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersDRAPERS EXPERT 57768 WIRE ROPE AND CUTTERS. ARE BRILLIANT!!
When I picked these up on 7th Aug, 2019 I had no idea how to open them? Then I remembered someone having the same problem when I was reading the reviews. I finally found this strange little piece that is at the side of the top of the tool and lo and behold they flew open very wide. I just tried them on a piece of 3mm jewellery chain and they was absolutely brilliant! I couldn’t have chosen a better pair! Very pleased! Just what I need for cutting my jewellery chain up. Def a 5 star rating from me! For price, for quickness of delivery and for their style!
