Our Solution

Wherever possible, Fred products automatically close as a cupboard, drawer or gate is shut.

Unlocking our products will ALWAYS require a 2 or even 3 way toddler proof action and we have made it possible for parents to temporarily remove products when they need to between children in a way that they can later be safely re-installed.

Products that are not compliant may present the following risks:

  • Additional hazard in the home as a result of its installation e.g. Corner protectors that become a choking hazard if detached.

  • Introduce new finger, hip or head entrapment’s into the home for the age of the child that the product is trying to protect.

  • Be manufactured from materials that cannot withstand the forces likely to be applied e.g. drawer locks that snap, stove guards that shatter to generate sharp shards of plastic.

  • Have an on/off function that parents may forget to re-engage

  • Be so difficult to fit that they are rarely installed correctly – if at all.

  • Be attractive to the child such that they will want to play with them

Fitting this with a momcozy retractable baby gate, the screw attachments on this are wider than the piece of wood supplied, therefore doesn’t work. Solution I have added a wider piece of wood on top of the supplied piece to widen it. Not asthetically the best but means it will still work. Why the wooden posts in kit aren’t wider is beyond me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Doesn’t work with all baby gates as claimed

We used this product to install a Baby Dan folding baby gate across two square, wooden, banister posts. Firstly, it is definitely universal, so that’s 5 stars. However, it wasn’t clear when we bought it that the “kit” only does one single banister. I think this should be made clearer (a “kit” implies that you will be able to install the entire stair gate with it, what use is one by itself?) so we did have to screw into the banister on one side after all. But it protected 50% at least, 50% less work filling holes when we eventually remove it.

My only complaint was that I am just an average person with a small baby not a professional builder or a DIY person, and I found the instructions were unclear and lacked detail. I also didn’t realise there would be so much screwing parts into wood involved, and there were no markings on the wooden beam provided (it would be much easier with a grid or ruler printed onto the “fake” banister i.e. the wooden post, I got the wrong side of the wooden beam and I just couldn’t get the screws straight at all). But after about 4 hours I got there and the final result was good and sturdy which was a relief. In conclusion, it did the job but wouldn’t say it was very easy and there was some frustration involved.

We needed this for our top of the stairs, our bannister is curved / rounded so stair gate had nothing to hold on to. We’ve had this up over a year now and it’s still solid!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWe had some existing gates and then moved to this property where they couldn’t easily be fitted to the stair posts because the upper part is shaped/rounded rather than flat faced. This solved the problem perfectly. You should check measurements/compatibility before buying, but I have no complaints, and it saved us from having to try and find an alternative stair gate or some other solution.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersReally great product! It’s done the job perfectly on our unusual staircase. Wasn’t the easiest to put together but don’t really mind because I know it’s sturdy and will do the job with safety in mind. My wreck it Ralph toddler has literally climbed the bars and shook them so hard and it’s secure as anything. Just ordered a second fitting kit for the bottom stairs. Good value for money.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersWe have 2 free standing newel posts about 3 steps up from the ground floor. Didn’t want a press fit stair gate as may fatigue the posts and adds a bar to step over at an awkward height on the stairs. Drilled fittings would leave a catch on the angled post and so would have needed extra wood/brackets anyhoo. This allows installation onto the square parts of the posts and we fixed a Babydan Multidan extending gate between. Very happy with the end result. Won’t be taking on and off all the time as although possible, it looks a bit of a faff. But the paint should be unmarked when we do.
