Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersHung a piece of art & a framed photo, both had double fixtures on back. That’s hard & I never get it level on the first tryalways takes many! Not with the HangOmatic!!! Perfect on the first try in less than 15 minutes!!

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersThis thing is the best product I’ve ever discovered. My wife and I used to have arguments about hanging things in the house because I knew it would be a long project that required 10 holes to be drilled. This device made hanging things so easy! I don’t mind hanging pictures and mirrors anymore as it only takes me 5-10 minutes and each thing I hang is perfectly level!

Only downside is the tape is a little flimsy so when hanging some wider things, it can make it more difficult but hey, I only have to drill once so I’m not complaining! Buy it and save your marriage!

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersI just got done using this to hang two pictures side by side. We have all been there. You hang them and find that one is slightly off from the other. So you put another hole in the wall, nope still not right. GET THIS. Both pictures are inline and it took me a minute to hang both. Who needs a man when you’ve got this?!

It worked first time including markings and centuring. I only wished I had purchased this when I first needed it before I had placed holes in my walls that was in the wrong place. N mind I have this now, it was so easy to use.

I bought this as i moved into a new house and thought it was better than my usual method of using a spirit level and measuring where to put the hangers, this little gadet is brilliant just put the markers where the hangers are make sure its level using the little spirit level and then press into the wall to show where you need to put the hangers have used this product multiple times now and is brilliant even other family members borrowed it as its just so easy to use.

This is a great little tool – does the job really well. I used it to hang four pictures up in a square shape and it saved a huge amount of time and stress

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThis is a great idea. I’ve got a lot going on my walls and my placement is usually a little wonky (especially as I lack a second pair of eyes or hands to help with the task!). Basically, this is a tape measure with two extra helpful features: two sliding markers with very sharp pointers at the back, and a sliding level which is placed between them. The idea is that you measure the distance between the hole you want to drill, set the pointers at that same distance, hold it up against the wall and make sure the bubble sits in the centre of the level, then push the pointers hard against the wall to mark where to drill. You can use it both for placing items with multiple hanging points as well as for hanging a series of objects at a consistent height.

How does it work in use? Well, there are a couple of things to bear in mind. The first is that it’s still pretty fiddly to use this if no one is helping you. Depending on the distances you are working with, it can be almost impossible to hold the tape measure flat against the wall. It is the usual flexible metal but the markers and level add weight so it does have a tendency to bend and collapse. It’s really necessary to have one hand on each marker, which leaves the heavier casing hanging and potentially in the way. However, once I got the knack of holding it, it did mean I hung a little shelf with complete confidence and much straighter than I usually manage!

The other issue is that relying this does of course depend on the hangers of your pictures etc being level and consistent heights on the actual objects. If you have, say, a heavy piece of art on which an artist has placed a couple of hooks, the artist may well have simply eyeballed it and the hanging points may not be perfectly level to begin with, which will mean you end up with a wonky hanging through no fault of the Hang-O-Matic. So do bear this in mind.

So, not quite foolproof but does make things much easier once you get used to using it. Really pleased to have it in my toolkit and well worth having if you bear these issues in mind.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWe move house very frequently and are forever rehanging pictures… I have tried pretty much every way possible over the years to varying degrees of success. The hang-o-matic caught my eye as it might actually just help speed up getting pictures hung properly. And it does providing that you picture has the rigid type of hangings on the back. Here, it excels. You can quickly and easily set the guides in the picture hooks or hole in any other kind of thing that needs screwing into a wall that can be marked by pressing on it (such as TM mount etc). All you need to do then is level the bubble and press to mark.

Where it falls short is pictures with traditional wire or cord mounts. There is no easy way to use it to account for drop or anything like that. I use a thin piece of hardwood with a screw partially through one end, a tape and pencil, and a laser level. All you need to do is hang your picture on your screw, move your hardwood so that the top hits the level you want and press firmly. The crew leaves a clear indentation for adding picture hooks. Simple but effective.

Overall, great idea where pictures have fixing points, not much use for picture wire.

Undoubtedly an ingenious gadget, which answers a need that you didn’t know you had! By a cunning combination of metal compass points, and extendable tape measure, a built-in spirit level, and some truly lateral thinking, this makes the very hit and miss process of re-hanging pictures ornaments and flatscreen gadgets much much easier. In terms of construction it’s not perhaps the most robust article, but as a piece of ingenious design, it has to score very highly. With a bit of intuition you have this working in minutes. I hesitate to say it would make an ideal present for the handy person who had everything, but if you did buy it as a gift, you can guarantee they won’t have one already! If you’re buying a gift that needs displaying or hanging on the wall, why not include one of these as well?

A great little piece of kit that is trying to solve a genuine problem.

I’ve put up a few shelves, paintings and the like, marking and drilling holes. A separate spirit level and tape measure are required to ensure a level line is drawn between two points, but with this tool you can both measure distance and keep everything on the horizontal at the same time.

The whole think works similar to your ordinary tape measure, with the added spirit level. A little cover comes with it to protect the tool and the pointed markers.

It looses a star as the tape measure could have been a little stiffer to avoid the metal tape bending and flopping away from the wall a few more times than I would have liked. However overall this doesn’t detract too much, 4 stars very much deserved.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI absolutely love it! To be honest, I’ve done more than my fair share of DIY over the years. As such, I’ve become quite handy when it comes to putting up stuff, installing things and doing general jobs around the house.

Putting up pictures and shelves isn’t exactly the hardest of jobs, but it can take a little time to make sure pictures are perfectly level or in line with each other (if part of a set). I picked up the Hang-o-Matic more out of interest than thinking it will actually make the process a whole lot easier. But fair do’s, it really does make the process so incredibly quick and simple.

I strongly advise people to watch the (rather cheesy) advertising video that accompanies the Amazon listing. It shows you exactly how the Hang-o-Matic works (far better than any description I could provide).

Since getting the Hang-o-Matic I’ve put up a couple of (reasonably sizeable) pictures in our hallway and a new floating shelf in my study. I used the Hang-o-Matic to do all three and was instantly won over by it. Honestly — it’s as simple to use as the video shows and halves the time it would normally take.

As you can tell from my review — I love this product.

You can tell by the packaging and the name that this is a product of American origin. It’s a quirky product, and rather odd looking, but it does the job perfectly. It’s an age-old problem hanging pictures and getting things straight. Here, the markers, tape measure and spirit level are all packaged in one handy little gizmo. No more wonky pictures or sloping mirrors.

Pros: Great idea. It actually works. Quick, easy, pretty foolproof.
Cons: somewhat flimsy build. Little bit pricey.

I am finding this very useful at the moment as I have a lot of pictures to hang, but I wish the tape was stiffer, and I wish they’d spent more on the parts. Given the price, I think this could be a better made product. Honestly though, what a great idea! Much easier to get a professional looking finish with this tool, than with a level, tape measure, pencil and sharp implement.

We have tried this out on some kitchen shelving ,it works really well and makes the job so much quicker!! the build quality is good and we havent had an issue with the metal tape and the level marks really well on plasterboard or thick wall paper but not so much on old victorian brick walls ,we tried putting chalk on the point of the marker , this helped or better yet use a little square of card in the area you think the hole needs to be taped securely with masking tape and the marks show clearly
Love the design and the “wallace and grommit” name .

Sounds, looks, and indeed is like something off a shopping channel! It is, however, genius. It’s one of those clever products that you never knew that you needed, but once you see it you wish you’d made it!

I love the basic manly satisfaction of putting up a shelf or hanging a picture and then putting a spirit level on it to see that it’s perfectly level – it’s up there with barbecuing meat. But it can be hard work – measuring, drawing pencil marks, sizing up brackets, trying to stick a pencil through a screw hole. The Hang-O-Matic takes away the hard work. Basically, it’s a retractable tape-measure with two attached slideable markers which are sharp enough to mark on the wall where to drill to put in screws. Between the markers is a small spirit level so that you can check that your line is straight.

It’s a great idea, but there are flaws. Whilst I love the concept, the build itself is rather flimsy. The plastic body looks and feels cheap, and the simple addition of a hook hole to hang the tool when it’s not in use would be a simple addition. As a previous reviewer has commented, the tape-measure is thin and flimsy when it is extended making it harder to use the Hang-O-Matic.

Overall, this is a great concept and a really useful tool for DIY. I would like to see more money and time invested in the quality of it though.

I picked this up because I’m in the middle of redecorating my house and thought this would be useful when it came to rehanging all my posters and photographs. I can honestly say that this is well worth the money. It consists of a measuring tape to which is attached two prongs, which you can slide to the required distance. There are twin points on the end of each prong, which you can use to make an indentation in the wall. There’s also a spirit level attached to the tape so you can make sure the points are level. There’s a decent sized plastic handle so you can keep a good grip on it while using it. The only downside for me was that the cap, which goes over the tape didn’t fit – possibly because the tape had been bent to a slight angle. That doesn’t prevent the device being used though and I still found that it worked well.

This is one of those odd tools which is actually really useful.

It’s basically a short tape measure with a built-in spirit level and spikes to mark the wall. What this means is you can measure, level and mark where to put pins for your pictures.

It’s got a weirdly old fashioned design, but I’d strong enough and should last well.

If you hang a lot of pictures, it’s a reasonable, if not necessary, addition to your toolbox.

This is a very useful little gadget for measuring and lining up wall holes. Regular metal strip of measuring tape is rolled up in the handle and it has two sliders with sharp points for mark the wall at precise points before drilling. Align them with the holes on the picture frame or shelf and transfer them precisely on the wall. Sliding spirit level between the sliding pointers is there to assure that everything is perfectly horizontal. Handle that contains the roll of measuring tape is large enough for a firm hold and there is a build in stopper to prevent the measuring tape rolling back on its own. The whole contraption comes with a very useful cover that protects the sliders when not in use and its also very helpful against accidental scratches, since the pointy markers are really sharp.
I’m giving it 4 stars since, as useful as this gadget is, it is not entirely foolproof, once unrolled the measuring tape is very flexible which makes it very fiddly to control the air bubble inside the spirit level. It does require a bit of practice and experience in how to use this hanging tool.

This gadget make hanging items on the wall an absolute piece of cake!
Its sooo easy to use that anyone can do it, putting up frames is an absolute doddle.
Imagine a normal tape measure with a spirit level bubble on it & two sliding “prongs”
You measure your item to be hung & slide/set the “prong/s” to the point where you would need to put your fixing / nails on the wall
Move across to the wall & decided where you would like to place your item, slightly adjust until the bubble is centred, the prongs are set to the correct place for your fixings so you only need to press the prongs into the wall to make a little indentation in the wall showing you exactly where to place your nail / fixing

very useful and nifty gadget to help when marking walls for holes. Basically it is a retractable tape measure with 2 metal points attached so you can accurately measure the distance you need, use the integral spirit level to make sure the holes are level with each other, then mark the second one. Much easier to do than to describe! The product has a slightly retro feel to it, but seems reasonably well made and with care I think will prove a useful addition to the domestic tool box
