I haven’t had a tarot cards deck before so I was curious how this one works and how they are designed and coloured. The deck is beautiful and the intriguing instructions and read of each card is perfect for anyone willing to start using them.

Unfortunately some of the previous comments are inaccurate. This is a faithful Rider Waite set, no liberties taken. The explanatory booklet is a bit short and simplistic but perfectly reasonable for a beginner. The cards are a bit thicker than ordinary playing cards but not nearly as thick as a good tarot set. They are larger than playing cards but smaller than a full size tarot set.

I’m not going to lieI’ve never had nor used tarot cards before.personally I wouldn’t have a clue how to use them.even though there is a fully illustrated instruction book
But I feel that being on the vine program the review we do is about the product and the quality of the goods.so that potential buyers can read the reviews and get honest feedback.

These are bigger than a deck of cards.nicely illustrated .colourful.
These would be perfect for a beginner.
The instruction booklet tells you all about each card and in detail
Cards are smooth.78 cards in packso a good variety.

I’m just starting out using Tarot cards and know very little about this interesting art. However I did buy myself some Tarot cards last year together with a ‘How to’ book. So I’m a beginner. But these cards fulfil everything I need. They are colourful, big, glossy cards. There is no cutting corners as they are nice and thick and easily managed. Others no more about these cards than I do but on face value they are good cards. You also get a booklet which to be honest tells me more in five minutes than me reading several pages and getting swamped with information. Every one has their approach to the Tarot. Mine is to enjoy the journey and have a bit of fun on the way. These cards will certainly get used by me. A nice product. At 10.99 you really can’t go wrong. Afficiandos might find fault with these but I do not.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent cards to a beginner like me, glossy colourful and to me…big! That means good.

Having only ever owned one set of Tarot cards prior to these I certainly don’t consider myself to be knowledgeable in the subject, so my review mainly looks at the actual quality of the cards and the illustrations.

The cards come in a box which I don’t think would stand up to repeated use. If I was using these daily and taking them out in front of other people I would much prefer a cloth pouch of some sort – but I guess that would add to the initial cost. The deck is a similar thickness and quality to any other regular pack of cards you’d buy and will probably start to age and scuff after a while, but personally I find that quite appealing. If I went to someone for a ‘reading’ I would like to see that the cards were in use regularly because that implies the owner is experienced. You don’t want them to look as if they’ve never been out of the box.

My initial thought when looking at the faces was that they were very bright and possibly even too bright. I’ve added a couple of comparison images showing my existing deck and this new one, and you’ll see that the faces are an identical Rider-Waite-Smith design but that the other deck (new on top, my existing ones on the bottom) has a more aged look to it. I prefer the old ones, other than the fact that they were purchased with a copyright logo on the corner which spoiled them for me. The new cards are out of copyright and don’t have that, which is a point in their favour.

My main issue is with the backs. I exchanged a couple of messages with a friend who knows far more about the Tarot than I do, and he pointed out that the purple “Hubble telescope type image” as he put it, looks as if it’s been cynically designed to make the cards look mysterious and other worldly, and to appeal to people who don’t really want a deck of useful cards but who want something to put out on display. A modern day illustration like that has no place on something which dates back as far as the Tarot, he said, and I have to agree. It looks as if the same company makes a more traditional-looking set and I would prefer those. My other deck, by the way, has an equally nasty blue back that looks like something you’d see lying about in a holiday cottage, for when you want to play Snap or Whist on a rainy day.

As a deck of cards these are good quality, and serviceable, but I would never describe them as a “professional” tool. Buy these, learn how they are used, and then get something a bit more authentic.

4.0 out of 5 stars Arcana believe it.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis is a lovely vibrant and detailed rendering of the Rider Waite Tarot deck.
The cards are nice, feel good in the hand, easy to shuffle and retain shape well if handled carefully and with respect – good quality but I don’t think these have much plastic or resin element which would improve longevity.

They come with a booklet detailing each card and with an introduction – sadly this doesn’t include beginners reading guide.

Overall lovely vibrant detailed deck at a decent price.

My issue was that I didn’t like the back of the cards – what’s with the pyramid and all seeing eye?? I much prefer the Universal Waite deck.
Any beginner will need to buy an additional book as the included booklet isn’t enough to get you started.

I have the Universal Waite Tarot Deck and prefer that as it has a decent guide booklet with it – it’s also much more traditionally presented.

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice deck with some downsides

This is an excellent first tarot deck for beginners, and perfectly suitable for experienced tarot readers as well. It’s based on the classic tarot deck, the Rider Waite, and therefore has all of the classic imagery and symbols you’d expect to find. The cards are the classic size, glossy and easy to handle. They include a pocket-sized full-colour guide with pictures and explanations for each of the 78 cards.

There’s nothing “special” here, no amazing artwork. It’s just basic tarot, with a basic image on the back of the cards.

The only downside of these cards is that they really are expensive for what you get. Considering that you can get other almost identical decks for half the price, it’s hard to imagine why you’d want to pay this much. I have removed one star for this reason. Otherwise, this is an excellent first tarot deck.

    Basic, no-frills deck
    Great for beginners
    Classic imagery
Excellent pocket-sized full colour guide book
    Glossy, easy to shuffle
Perfect size – full sized deck

    A bit expensive
No frills, no fancy artwork on the back of the cards

I hope you find these comments helpful 🙂

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI’ve always wanted to learn how to read tarot cards and this is a simple deck with an easy to follow guide that has started me on my journey nicely.

The cards are slightly bigger but around the same quality of a normal deck of cards, so not the fanciest but good enough to start out with and learn with.

The designs on them are beautiful and each card has its name clearly printed on it, again perfect for beginners.

The guide is a small booklet that gives you a brief description of what each card means and a quick guide on how to spread the cards. I did find that it wasn’t quite enough of an explanation for me to understand fully so I ended up on YouTube to find out more.

Overall this is a great set for any beginner but the cards aren’t the best quality so once you know what you’re doing you’ll likely want to buy a more personal deck that’s going to last you longer. I would still recommend this set though as a gift for a newbie of for yourself if you’re just starting out but be prepared to do further research to learn how to use them properly.
