Came intact and was delivered really quickly, not used yet but looks like it will do the job.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI have an old bearded axe that hasn’t had an edge for a few years and after only 45 mins I could shave with it (not recommended)

Lansky are the go to people for sharpening pucks, so go to them and get one

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersBought the Lansky puck to keep a good edge on an axe and garden tools.
It has been in the toolbox of gardeners and anyone who needs to keep a keen edge on tools and will last a long time. Probably outlast me.
I use it with Lansky honing oil and it keeps a good edge on the axe starting with the rougher darker side and finishing with the lighter finer side.
To get a really keen edge takes patience. I bought a cheap axe for general work that came blunt. It took a little while to achieve a good edge, but there was something therapeutic about the whole process.
Once you have an edge just a few strokes each time a tool is used will keep it up to the mark.

Good product, little bit awkward at times to hold depending on how you are wanting to sharpen.

Used this to sharpen my wood cutting / splitting axes. It does a good job, using the rougher side to remove larger bits of damage if there are any, then the fine side to finish it off. It removes enough to sharpen the blades and its easily portable, so handy in the field. I use a circular motion for an even finish. However, I am confused as to why its described as “unisex”!

This is an important product to keep around the house, garden or allotment. I keep mine at the allotment and use for my axe, knives and garden tools. Keeps my tools super sharp.

its small & fits in your hand easily. It presents itself automatically at the right angle to the blade & with two grit densities it will do the rough stuff and do a nice smooth final finish. Good product at a fair price.

Excellent little puck! Very effective for my camping hatchet. It’s not quite razor sharp but would certainly cut through most wood with ease! I don’t know why some people pay far more for other sharpening stones as this does the job. It’s a comfortable and handy size that’ll fit in your pocket as well.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our Usersexcellent bit of kit, I did initially contemplate much more expensive Puck type with leather holder , but quickly decided that it would be of no benefit good when actually using it. The Lansky Puck has rough side with coarse grit to initiate quick removal of dinks and thick edges then a finer /smoother side to hone an edge onto your AXE. A light circular motion like you polish a car bonnet seems to work with both sides of puck, with axe held flat with one hand on your thigh seems to be the most comfortable way I found. I would expect to lose this long before it wears out – so a good investment overall.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’d returned a very slightly cheaper alternative because it arrived with the rim badly chipped therefore uncomfortable to hold. This one arrived in good condition. I tidied up the axe profile with a diamond burr then used the puck. The axe is now sharper than ever. Like another reviewer I have marked it down a star because no case is supplied. What is it with Lansky? A ceramic hone I ordered is supplied without a rod. Cheeseparing. But good cheese.

I ordered this as the axe I’d bought and have been using became blunt quite quickly, I’d read the reviews online and decided to give it a go. It actually works really well, even better if you add water to the stone throughout the process of sharpening. Make sure you hold the axe correctly to avoid injury and before you know it, your axe will be sharper than you think.

Used on several of my well worn axes, honed them perfectly. Nothing more relaxing than sitting in the sunshine sharpening axes. I need to get a leather pouch to keep it is as it will scratch any surface it touches – which is exactly what I would expect anyway!

Great bit of kit. Took a factory edge (and a poor edge at that) on an axe to paper cutting sharp in no time, bit more skill on my part would get to shaving sharp but I used a finer stone for tha

The Lansky sharpening puck is brilliant I’ve used it on a couple of hatchets and had great results every time. After restoring an old hatchet I have it a couple of passes using the course side first and moving to the finer grit side. It now cuts through paper like a hot knife through butter. I tried it on a very blunt kitchen knife and had great results to. Really can’t fault it it’s easy to use and even easier to carry so great all round product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant produc

The lanky sharpening puck is small and portable for use when working outside. It has two sides of different grits for sharpening tools. The grits are reasonably course and if a precision blade is to be sharpened a fine sharpening stone will also be required.

Great stone, coarse side removes nicks and damage, finer side removes a good amount of material and allows you to put a seriously sharp edge back on any axe.
Use it on my gransfors and fiskars alike. Equally good.
Excellent design which fits beautifullly in the hand and keeps your fingers away whilst you’re working all the way to the edge of the blade.
Really happy with it and glad that I chose it over the gransfors stone.
    Would highly recommend.
    Used dry and with water.
Finish with a leather strop and it’s razor sharp again!
    Well happy. Cheers lansky

Great to have the variety of grit size on both sides – this has faithfully kept my axe sharp through many uses.

My one safety concern is that it might slip off the blade whilst sharpening but that may just be me being overcautious!

Quality product at an affordable price.

Great stone for sharpening axes or really large knives similar to machetes or a similar size the 2 grades are useful and there are good video tutorials online as to how to sharpen tool properly, if you own a few axes i would highly recommend!

Takes some practice but good results. Better than my older and cheaper sharpener for tools, but that one was a lot cheaper too. Did not come with any pouch or similar.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersThis dual grit axe sharpening stone is a great size for the hand, and once you get used to working with it, it’s fantastic at sharpening your axes.

The rough side is very rough, so will not be needed often, the smoother side is great at putting back an extremely sharp working edge, even on a well used head, allowing for much less effort having to be used.

Golden Review Award: 13 From Our UsersI bought this to compliment the Bahco 1-100-10-1-2 Hand Bastard Cut File 10in (see separate review) when sharpening my axes. As an experiment I dug an old and completely useless fire service axe out of the shed to see if I could restore it. I used the Bahco file to profile the edge then this Lansky puck to hone it. Within half an hour I got this axe from totally blunt to paper-slicing sharp.
The only reason I have not given this puck five stars is because I would have liked it to come with a plastic case to protect it from getting chipped. If it stayed on a tool shelf, this would not be an issue. However, I intend to carry it with me on my bush crafting missions.
This aside, the puck works extremely well, is a fraction of the cost of a Gransfors Bruks puck and I am extremely happy with my purchase.

A decent quality well priced sharpening puck. Does the job very well wet or dry (i typically use a little WD40 or the like) on basic resharpening or damage repair to lawnmower blades, etc. Too harsh for kitchen knifes or any fine work, but thats not its purpose (i have my ultra fine wet stones and ceramics for that)

Arrived promptly. Good cutting action from both the coarse and medium grits.
Needs a lubricant to stop clogging.
Sharpens to a very good edge – certainly good enough for a shovel or mower – but a finer stone or honer will also be needed if your blade is intended for something like shaving with!
    Winner, I would buy again.

Sorted the dings on my hatchett out and put a nice edge on it with the finer side of the puck, also worked on my big axe, that now has a decent edge on it too. a good piece of kit at a reasonable price that does the job and looks like it will last some time.
Arrived quickly so pleased about that as well.
I would reccomend this item and the seller.

I mainly use this to sharpen my log maul with Lansky honing oil. Good shape that sits well in the hand making sharpening easy. Puts a decent edge on the maul but I agree with other reviewers that it would be difficult to get it razor sharp with this stone. However, plenty good enough for what I need.

Golden Review Award: 20 From Our UsersI got this stone a while back now and after using it on two different axes and a hatchet I would be happy to recommend it to anyone that’s wanting a simple stone to sharpen up a little on the job.
Being puck shape it fits nicely in the palm and therefore does not present a problem when using with slimy wet hands etc.
Both sides of the stone offer a fairly standard grit choice and if your looking to have a shaving sharp edge then you will need a second stone much finer than this offers along with a decent belt for stropping.
If your just after a good sharp edge to your axe this will do the job fine.
Being puck shape, it also takes little room in your pocket or pack, is less likely to crack than the traditional block or cigar shape and it is quite intuitive keeping an even pitch using a circular motion.
My top tip would be to get hold of a pipe tobacco tin of the circular kind to store the puck in.
I found a “Dunbar original, ready rubbed” tin fits perfectly but I’m sure there are lots of other brand tins that would also fit well, you just need to take up pipe smoking and experiment lol.
It gets five stars from me as it’s not expensive, it does what is required of it, its not heavy or bulky and it’s easy to use.
Ultimately the test is, would I buy another if I lost this one? And the answer is,Yes.

Got this to Sharpen my Hultafors H008SV 800g Trekking Axe, have to say after a number off goes it has put a nice sharp edge on it and with some more time will be able to get a better/ sharper finish.
Only thing i would say is take a little time to get used to using. Meaning keeping it at the right angle to your axe blade.

Overall i would recommend this product as its nice and compact and can put a nice sharp finish to a blade very happy

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersTried using an old wet stone to sharpen a new axe. Never really understood what the phrase “having an axe to grind” meant before ! If you don’t get the grinding angle absolutely spot on, and the stone properly lubricated, you will end up with a blunt axe head, sore shoulder and generally frustrated. The Lansky Dual Grit Sharpener takes the strain out of sharpening any axe head (particularly if you use in conjunction with Lansky’s honing oil), as the grinding angle can be easily maintained and adjusted if necessary. The dual grit is useful if you are trying to restore a really badly “dinged” or rusted axe head, but the finer grit is all you will need to bring out a razor sharp edge to any new axe head. It is also handy size to keep in my tool bag and not as brittle, fragile or cumbersome to carry around as a wet stone. I have used it to grind brand new axe heads and just to re-condition the axe after use. Wouldn’t be without it.

I bought a Fiskars hatchet that was razor sharp when I bought it. The blade has since dulled but this sharper brought it back to it’s original glory. I didn’t realise how much it had dulled. I’ll be giving it a quick rub down every time I use it now to keep it in razor sharp. I use the puck with Lansky Honing Oil. Highly recommended.

I have amended my original review from 1 star which I originally gave because the product was not delivered on time and as a result was unable to give a review of the product. Now it has arrived. It came from the USA and seems to have been held up in customs. Anyway I now have the grit sharpener in my hands. I haven’t had the time yet to use it and probably wont get the time for a couple more weeks. It looks substantial and I see no reason to think it wont perform. I would give it 5 stars but as I said I haven’t used it yet.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersThis is a very useful and easy to use honing stone. Its great strength is that it is capable of being hand held and worked into hollow ground corners for axes.
Have only used the smooth side but it soon produces a sharp edge with a bit of light machine oil as a lubricant. Value for money and does what it says on the packaging. Highly recommended. Small enough to be portable in the outdoors.
