Having had a Silentnight branded sunrise alarm (now being marketed under other brand names – for more, see my Silentnight review) that kept awful time to the point it no longer worked properly, this was bought on the basis of the reputation of the manufacturer and other Amazon reviews. Not disappointed. For the money, the build is very good, feel solid. The controls touch buttons are very finger sensitive, only needing the lightest touch, very handy for lightly tapping the button to for example switch alarm off. . Alarm sounds choices good. Colour changes options are similar to the Silentnight, so guess colours are sunrise alarm standard options, but still nice. The time set for the alarm, once set, stays in place as a recurring time, no need to re-set every night. Light brightness is defaulted to a fairly soft light and the light can made a lot brighter, useful for better night-time lighting. Easy to read and apply instructions. Only one small downside, the time display is not super clear but it’s alright and readable. Came well packed. Overall very pleased and would consider this good value.

I like the Lumie sunrise alarm clock, I only use it for the gradual light to wake me up peacefully and set my regular alarm on my phone. It does give you options for alarm tones and volume levels. I dislike the red display but it has the option to decrease the brightness or turn it off which I like. Overall the light is beautiful and I enjoy it.

Being fairly new to living in the UK and trying to acclimatise to dark months and virtually midnight sun in the other half of the year, I find this daylight clock concept interesting and very helpful. Works well!

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersThis is a great product for me, being reasonably priced and good quality. Works well and is easy to use.

A huge benefit for me is it uses standard usb for power, which gives the option of powering from a usb power bank. Ideal if traveling. It also has AAA batteries as backup so it doesn’t lose settings if you move it.

NB, some reviews are wrong when they say the red display can’t be turned off. It has a dimmed and off option. And I found it easy to set.

I really like being woken by light. The unit is fairly small but plenty bright enough. I also like the sunset.

I first bought a lumie 20+ years ago. It was great. It got broken so I replaced with a more expensive one. That was a mistake. I was disappointed at the quality for the price and that put me off (they used a $1 chip for the clock and it was rubbish at keeping time). That also got broken and I’ve been without for years.

I was tempted by the much more reasonable price of this one and I’m so happy to find it does everything I need very well.

I was a little doubtful at buying this lamp as i had read really mixed reviews but because of the trusted name and price i thought i haven’t go much to lose.

I can say tho that i am happy with it. Yes the red numbers are incredibly bright (see pictures) but unless the lamp is pointing directly into your face this won’t keep you awake like some have said.

Some of the alarm noises are questionable. There is a goat one (who in their right mind wants to be woken by that) and there is a kittens purr. Its more like a tiger or lion than kitten. hahaha!

The bird song ones are nice tho and that’s what I’ve chosen. I have been using this for a couple of days now and i have noticed an improvement in my mornings. The light doesn’t wake me up but when the alarm goes off i am less startled so i think it is actually gradually waking me without realising and because the light is on when i open my eyes i haven’t once snoozed the alarm or been tempted to go back to sleep. And if like me you don’t spring out of bed as soon as the alarm goes off the low light is nice just to lie in for a few minutes and come to terms with the fact you have to get up

It won’t wake you like natural sunrise however in the winter when there is no sunrise until 8am this is a pretty good substitute to ease you awake.

I’ve added some pictures to show:
    – Bright Light
    – Low Light
    – No Light Just Time

4.0 out of 5 stars Happy with my purchase

Golden Review Award: 111 From Our UsersI’ve been using the Lumie Sunrise Alarm for nearly two weeks now, and it has certainly made a difference in my morning routine. Waking up in the morning has always been a struggle for me, and this alarm clock has helped to ease that struggle. However, my experience with this product has been mixed.

The most significant advantage of the Lumie Sunrise Alarm is its ability to mimic a natural sunrise, gently waking me up with gradually increasing light intensity. This feature has been a game-changer for my mornings, making it much easier to get out of bed.

On the downside, the Lumie Sunrise Alarm has a few issues. Firstly, the build quality of the device leaves much to be desired. It does look and feel somewhat cheap, which is disappointing given its price point. Setting up the alarm can be a bit of a hassle, as it’s not as user-friendly as I would have liked. The user manual could use more detailed instructions to simplify the setup process.

Additionally, I found the red light in the clock to be quite annoying when using the alarm as a bedside table clock during the night. It’s not adjustable in intensity, and it disrupted my sleep more than I anticipated.

It’s worth noting that you could potentially achieve similar results by setting up an Alexa device and a smart lamp to turn on in the morning. This might be a more customizable and cost-effective solution for some users.

In conclusion, the Lumie Sunrise Alarm has its merits, particularly when it comes to helping you wake up more peacefully in the morning. However, its cheap construction, setup challenges, and the annoying red light are significant drawbacks. While it might not be the best sunrise alarm clock on the market, I’m willing to give it a bit more time to see if I can get used to its quirks. If you’re struggling with waking up in the morning, it’s worth a try, but be prepared for some minor inconveniences along the way.

Golden Review Award: 18 From Our UsersIf like me you are into tech and grew up with a hi-fi system in your house then using this alarm clock will have it’s similarities in setup.

Once you figure out the controls with how to set the time and alarm decomes straight forward. Please read the manual first as as it is not the most intuitive interface. It’s not complicated to learn, just takes a moment to do so.

Alarm and light function nicely. The choice of alarms are decent ranging from animal noises to an actual alarm beep.

The light begins half an hour before your set alarm time. It does have a gradual climb to full brightness.

The only issue I have with this is that the initial light brightness is too much.

Ideally I want the light to incremently go from 0,1,2,3,4….99,100 full brightness
whereas this goes from 0 to 20 (low level brightness) then steps to like 30, 40 etc.

It’s that initial jump is like someone turning a ligh on in your room when you are asleep. This doesn’t happen all the time and I will sleep until the alarm goes off. It is something to be aware of.

I have turned the light facing the wall so it’s not as direct lght.

The light is a nice brightness when full and is nice to have when waking up. This is a good product for the price, it is a good alarm with light function, the higher end models probably will have better light capabilities.

I really like waking up to a brighter room & I do feel like it does make a difference to my mood of the day.

It can be quite a nuisance to set up (in the event of power cuts or when we are away for a few days) & come back to it, as if you don’t switch it off at the plug, the light will stay on for the entire time 9the light has to be manually turned off each morning).

But I don’t find it a big enough problem to rate it any less that 5 star.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThis is the BEST thing I have ever bought from Amazon. Having always been interested in buying a SAD lamp I have been searching around for the best and most cost effective and this is it.

    Sunrise:
The sunrise feature begins 30 minutes before your designated alarm time. This is great for me as I can sleep through moderate light and therefore it always manages to wake me up towards the end of the 30 mins. If you are a light sensitive sleeper then it may be too bright around 10-15 mins in.
The alarm is easy to set up and change when needed and it’s clear when the alarm has been set as a small light appears on the side of the screen (which is useful!)
The wake up sounds (at your alarm time) are not great. There is 5 to choose from, frogs, goats, cats and 2x birds. All of which are rather bad quality, especially the goats which are loud and quite scary. However, I find the bird options good enough and enjoy the natural feel of light and birds in the morning.
Some reviews have said that you have to set your alarm every night however I have not found this to be the case. Often times the alarm is set for the following morning, however as stated above, it’s easy enough to check with the light on the screen.

    SUNSET:
The sunset feature begins from whenever you press the sunset button. This for me is the most impactful feature as it makes you SO tired, even after the first fade around 5 minutes in. There has not been a single night since I bought this that I have witnessed the light go out as I always fall asleep before then.
However, I can confirm the light does fade out fully.

With the sunset feature you can also press the sunset button again to pause the sunset at the current light brightness. This is especially useful if you want a brighter light than the standard on/ off/ coloured setting.

I love this lamp so much. The features are exactly what I needed it for and it has improved my sleep and morning routine so much! A must buy, especially for those who struggle to wake up in the morning when it’s dark

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis has made a huge difference to getting out of bed in the morning – it’s a nice way to wake up with the increase of light. I have more motivation and energy using this.

I love it but there are a few things I’d change.

    Pros
    – small and compact
    – get to wake up to
    – I like the sunset mode (put it on when I get in my bedroom, as the light dims, it feels cosy and makes me sleepy)

    Cons
    – the red LED light that shows the time is bright. There is the option to turn it down, but even then it is bright. It can be turned off but then the time can’t be seen
    – the alarm noise is so loud, even on the lowest setting. I turned it off in the end
    – I think the alarm has to be turned on each day – there is no reoccurring setting (at least I don’t think there is)

Maybe I’m expecting too much for a sunrise alarm clock. Just seems certain functions are a little outdated and it could do with a make-over/overhaul.
Saying that, I wouldn’t be without it.

Good brightness. Sound options like sheep bleating or very loud shouty birds are a bit quirky but fun and are annoying enough to wake my deep sleeper son up. He finds the alarm a bit tricky to adjust though.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI like this clock, the only criticism is the gradual light doesn’t really fade like I thought it would, it suddenly lights up to the dimmest setting and still wakes me up

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersDoes what it says on tin. Too bright if pointing directly towards bed. But if angle away it works well. Been waking me up mostly after 15 mins but definitely more pleasurable way to wake up.

Only one light temperature with different brightness. The brightness is good enough if you face the lamp while sleeping, but when I’m facing the other side, it won’t wake me up. The power cable could be longer. Don’t expect miracles.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThe good: The controls were easy use, the red time display can be turned off, the sound can be turned off, and there is a good range of lighting for the half hour to wake you up. It is so much nicer to wake up to than switching a normal light on and getting instant brightness.

Not so good: that red light for the time is horrible. I would argue that for me, it doesn’t light up the room enough. The actual lamp is bright but doesn’t emit the light quite as well. The sound quality for the alarm isn’t great so I switch it off.

Good price given that I don’t use the time display or the alarm. Just the light for me.

Golden Review Award: 19 From Our UsersI’m really happy with the Lumie Sunrise alarm. I bought it after returning the Lumie Bodyclock Spark 100 because I found lots of the features and design of that one annoying.

The Sunrise actually has more features than the Spark even though it is cheaper. My understanding is that because it doesn’t have a scientific certificate. But I don’t see what difference that really makes on a practical level.

Positive things about the Sunrise and the comparative things I didn’t like about the Spark:

    +
The Sunrise has several alarm choices including birds etc (the spark only has a beep (or no beep)).

Once the alarm is set on the Sunrise it stays on. On the Spark you have to re-turn it in every day. What!!??!

The clock display (although a not so pretty red), is big enough to read during the night. I wear glasses and couldn’t read the Spark’s tiny display (digits are only about 1cm high on the spark).

The Sunrise has more buttons and is therefore easier to use/control. The Spark was fiddly and I needed the manual more.

    Good build quality. Great price.

A few negatives on the Sunrise. But these aren’t deal-breakers for me given the price:

Red clock display is a bit budget and ugly. It might be bright for some even on the lowest setting. But you can turn it off all together. But at least it’s legible!

Sunrise needs batteries to keep time in a power cut. 3xAAA.

Sunrise and sunset fixed at 30mins. Not customisable.

To turn it on just to use it as a light takes a few button presses to up it to the brightness (or colour) you want.

Not as nice a form as the Spark.

Red clock display could be better defined. There is a kind of backlit bleed behind it.

Golden Review Award: 16 From Our UsersThis clock is easy to set and to control, and the glowing sunrise/sunset light is really nice. I’ve noticed a difference in how easy it is to get up now it’s a bit brighter in the room. Only draw backs are the time display is very very bright red even on the dimmer setting, and there is no timer once the light has come on so if you forget to turn the alarm off the light will stay on until you manually turn it off. Overall I’m happy as I’m not too bothered by digital lights at night but I can see how it would be disruptive for some as the red glow is bright.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI always struggle to wake up in the morning and my previous alarm clocks have failed me in ‘going off’. I purchased this one due to the light installed which when activated comes on and goes off after half an hour which is reassuring to know that one can doze off knowing the light won’t stay on all night. The other thing I liked about it is that when the alarm is set for a particular time, the light will come on half hour before the alarm sounds which is helpful in waking you up ‘gently’. The alarm sounds, though could be better and there isn’t much to choose from. I’ve got Osprey which is the best one out of the lot as I didn’t fancy waking up with a start to the sound of frogs croaking!!! All in all, however, this clock is well worth it. Oh, I forgot to mention that mine doesn’t work with batteries so I’ve had to plug it into the mains.

Golden Review Award: 24 From Our UsersHave used Lumie sunrise alarms for years but this is the first LED version I’ve had. Previously owned the lowest priced sunrise alarm with a light bulb. Only reason I no longer own it is due to it breaking whilst moving. I wanted something a little bit more affordable and with a few sound options, and less bulky than the usual Lumie alarms as I was never keen on their size.

I was pleased to see this cheaper option but mindful of the reviews stating the sunset and sunrise options were not as good and that it may be too bright. I have to agree with them.

However, whilst the LED doesn’t dim-down or dim-up as gradually as the other Lumie clocks, I still find it useful for me. The light is a bit too bright for my taste but I placed a light coloured cloth over the clock and now I find it much better. The sounds are great. I use the Blackbird. I do like the other ones, though not sure I want to hear goats at 6 am.

If you are light-sensitive, as I am, this may be too bright for you so I’d suggest one of the light-bulb Lumie clocks instead. I’d also wish that Lumie had made the clock digits a more pleasant colour than bright red. Green would have been much nicer for the eyes. I do like the option that I can turn off the digits so they don’t disturb me at night.

Think Lumie missed the opportunity to corner the market by making a more dimmable less bright alarm. I’m still happy with it, but if it wasn’t for the fact I love the sounds, and I’ve managed to dim the bright light, I’d be returning this. So be mindful of these things before you purchase. Everyone’s eye vision/sensitivity differs so others may be perfectly happy with it.

Golden Review Award: 392 From Our UsersSo it appears I am the first reviewer to have actually paid for this 😉

There’s a lot of cheaper, unbranded and fairly tacky looking wake-up lights out there and I was happy to see this recently released budget model from Lumie, who have been making quality sunrise and SAD lights for years.

Out of the box this is a nice looking unit and feels well made. No nasty looking plasticky fake chrome effects to be found – just a smooth white (with a bit of grey) matte finish all over.

I only really bought it for the wake-up light, and particularly the option to have no sound on the alarm which seems absent on some of the cheapo models – I still wanted to use my phone for my final ‘get-up’ alarm.

On this model, the light starts half an hour before your programmed alarm time and starts low, brightening up in small increments. My biggest issue with it is that the light is too bright after only 10-15 mins, and I’ve been having to try out later alarm times so that the light is still a nice level when my phone alarm finally goes off. I’ve now also covered it with a bit of muslin cloth to soften it further, and I face it away from my bed to it’s not glaring at me when I get up.

I wish there was a way that you could programme the maximum brightness on the wakeup light but as this is the budget model I assume they had to reduce the amount of customisations you can make. Perhaps this is something that’s available on one of their more expensive models?

Other than the wake-up light, there is the choice of 5 alarm sounds which will sound (if the volume is set) at the programmed alarm time. Some of them are a bit weird (goats and purring kittens?!) but I’m content to use my phone alarm for sound anyway.

There is a sunset feature which is effectively the opposite of the wake-up light for when you are reading at night or whatever.

It can also be used as a bedside light – the standard light is warm white (as is the wake-up light). There is the option to have a coloured light or mood lighting (cycles through colours) on the standard light function. Nice for a kid perhaps but I can’t see myself using it that much. The standard light is dimmable. The coloured lights can’t be used as the wake-up light unfortunately.

You can dim the clock time – bright, medium or off. Which is a nice feature, although the medium is still fairly bright. If you have the clock light set to off it will come on when your wake-up light comes on so you know what time it is. Only problem is you have to look into the bright light of the wake-up light to see the time.

One other very minor bugbear is that the wake up light doesn’t switch itself off after a period of time. You have to manually switch it off. I only realised this after I went away for a weekend and forgot to switch the alarm off beforehand. The light must have been on all weekend…

Instructions are minimal but give enough info and are well written. There is a removable labelled plastic film on the front of the unit to get you started on which each button does. I still needed to read the instruction booklet though.

Overall it’s a good unit and I’m going to stick with it. Light is definitely gentler to wake up to than noise, and it’s making getting up a little easier now the mornings are so dark again. I’m glad I paid a little more for a Lumie model over one of the cheaper ones, but I wasn’t prepared to pay silly money for one of their more expensive models. So I guess like most things – you get what you pay for.
