Had the exact same model for Years now. It died, recently. Found this and bought it again.

I keep creatures, in water, with electrically powered items in there with them. *WHY* would I not use these???

So far no complaints. These are never crash proof but this seems descent and should be ok with reasonable treatment and use. As you would expect wth say a plug.

These do as they say. Simple to use and work well. Only issue is that they use a really cheap plastic. Drop one on the floor and it’s game over. Have had to buy a few and keep some spare in my van. For the money though there’s nothing else as good.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersBought this after buying a new lawn mower and strimmer. It works great, at least, the test button does what it should. Not had chance to mow or strim the power cable yet (thankfully) but I’m hopeful it’ll work if I do, if not, well my next of kin will be sending a strongly worded e-mail to the manufacturer.

ormally use it for testing electrical equipment that doesn’t work well and would otherwise melt my old school fuses as no resettable breakers yet – this takes the pounding and saves replacing fairly expensive fuses in the consumer uni

It’s simple to use and adds a layer of safety for electrical outlets where live and neutral may for some reason cross. That said I have older units which gradually failed over time so I don’t expect it to las

This works as it should but the on/off indicator is tiny and very difficult to see. The previous one had a much bigger window showing a red or black state. Otherwise ok for the purpose.

I use this for outdoor power tools (lawn mower etc) and it works well. It does get a little warm with appliances like this that are on intermittently and I see that some users have run into problems with appliances that draw lots of power for a long period of time.

There’s several versions of this item, both on fleabay, and Amazon. They are exactly the same, but simply badged differently, with a different logo. They are all made in the same factory, but the prices vary, dependant on the badged name. This was the cheapest one on Amazon. Don’t pay more for a brand name.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis review has been edited. The previous one was: “Had this for a few months, have only used it lightly. Now it won’t work, the reset button lifts back out immediately once pressed. Pressing test first makes no difference.”

However I was mistaken. In fact the instructions are just a bit unclear and it’s slightly fiddly. The trick is to plug both the RCD in as well as the thing you are protecting BEFORE pressing the Test and Reset buttons. If you do that, the orange indicator will remain there until you press test (or a short occurs… I hope :).

Note that the indicator IS just that, it’s a little piece of orange plastic, NOT a dim LED as other reviewers understandably thought.

Docked a star for the fiddlyness and unclear instructions.

For my garden bbq electric appliances project I was working on, I needed at least 2 circuit breakers for security.

I bought 2 of these and inserted them in the high quality extension lead I bought at the same time from Amazon.

Remains to be seen if they do what they should in an emergency and I’m not going to on purpose cut the appliance wires etc. to find out, however the ‘Test’ trip facility works fine.

Not quite what I was looking for, but should fit the bill.

Golden Review Award: 38 From Our UsersThis RCD adapter was delivered promptly, and well packed. I owned a Masterplug RCD decades ago and after a few years it blew up when switched on. This new one looks completely different, so I hope the design has matured. I am afraid that only time can tell on this point. I echo the criticism that the on/off indicator is merely a visual flag, but expect this has been done to minimise costs. A pity that a humble LED indicator has not been used; one might have thought this could have been even cheaper than a mechanical device. An LCD would certainly have a wide viewing angle and would show up at a distance. The viewing angle of this indicator is very restricted and its indication is somewhat indistinct. I use an LED torch to overcome this difficulty, when examining it. I have encountered no difficulties either in plugging into the 13A outlet, or when plugging the appliance into the RCD. A thoughtful feature are the recesses at the rear on each side, which assist grip when pulling the RCD out of the socket. It works flawlessly when pressing the test and reset buttons. So for now, I am very satisfied with this purchase, which at today’s prices represents very good value for money. I shall return to this review, should the least problem be experienced.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI have trusted Masterplug RCDs for twenty years and have never had any problem with them. The design doesn’t appear to have changed much in that time either. I lost one and bought this to replace it. Everyone should have one and they are very reasonably priced, highly recommended and not a number 1 best seller in RCDs (at time of writing) for nothing.

You may buy one for the obvious hazard of using a lawn mower, hedge trimmer, circular saw or other power tool where there is a chance that you might cut or damage the cable. You might get for your Christmas lights, fish tank pump, leaky washing machine, pressure washer or dehumidifier that keeps getting walked into, or a leaky kettle, where there is a risk or worry that water may mix with electricity. But also if you have one in stock and something unexpected happens you will be glad you had it for safety and peace of mind. For example, an appliance you rely on becomes suspicious like a phone charger getting hotter than usual, or you buy and appliance second hand and don’t trust it, or you are suspicious of a cable that may have been damaged but looks ok, or you’re going to hoover the car but it looks like it might rain. So many times I have been glad to have one handy.

It will cut out when there is a very small current leak and before your mains trip switch or fuse goes and is designed to save your life by cutting power very very quickly. It is money well spent, cheap peace of mind and this particular product is the only one I would buy because I feel I can trust it.

    Highly recommended.

I have been using one of these RCD Adaptors for several years now, always with electric tools (both inside and outside).

About a year ago I decided to install a chest freezer in my shed; having discovered the prohibitive costs involved to run a new circuit outside I decided to run electrical cable to the shed inside protective conduit.

The power would then need to come from one of the sockets in the kitchen, and although I would be very carful with the construction there was always the chance of water getting into the wiring due to the nature of what I have built.

So this is what I did, and I purchased another one of these Masterplug RCD Adaptors to run the current through, just in case a ‘leak’ occured and the circuit blew; I could not risk this resetting the main RCD for the kitchen, this would have caused no end of problems!

It has now been up and running for approximately a year and it has worked perfectly (touch wood!). It has to be reliable because we have our freezer at the other end, and this contains most of our food, if it were to go wrong it would obviously cause us big problems.

It is an extremely simple device to use; as long as the little light is on then the current is working properly. There is a reset button to use if the circuit is broken, and a test button to show that the device is working as it should.

It is well proportioned and is barely wider than a standard plug, so it is possible to use the other socket if this device is used on a two gang plug socket; it is worth bearing in mind though that when a plug is inserted the whole set-up does extend quite a distance from the wall, it is not an excessive amount but is worth taking into account if you plan to use the device in a restricted space.

Overall a really great product, and to be honest I can’t understand why anyone who uses any sort of power tools (particularly outside) wouldn’t have one; the RRP on Amazon is currently 13.25, but it is being sold at the reduced price of just 5.74, this is outstanding value and is about half the price it is being sold for at B&Q.

    Highly recommended!

Golden Review Award: 34 From Our UsersReceived one of these within 24 hours from Amazon using prime.

This unit is very very quick to switch off power to any faulty appliance connected to it and i tested it using a known faulty kettle – it provided an almost instantaneous off, must have been

milliseconds in reacting and isolating mains!

If you don’t mind the dark colour of it on a white socket it really is a bargain with its specifications pretty much the same as models way over double the price.

I have mine behind a unit that connects to a belkin surge-cube as well – so it’s not on display – protecting me, my family and thousands of pounds of recording equipment.

This is a small price to pay for total peace of mind with the dangers of electricity if a fault develops on any equipment we have.

Orange indicator could do with slightly better visibility, but as for function absolutely no complaints.

Highly Recommended – excellent value for money for a quality product that can be depended on.
*DOA rate* was 1 unit in every 11 over all our orders placed for more of these in different properties. Faulty units were replaced within 24 hrs using prime.
