Use this with our normal metal detector. We are family hobbyists, if I was Indiana Jones I’m not sure this is the one I would pick. But since I am not this is perfect for us.

Dropped a proprietary spacer off my mountain bike on the lawn (which was in need of a mow). After 2 hours of searching with no sight of it I ordered this detector. After less than 5 minutes of searching with the detector a reassuring beeping came out and I had found the missing spacer.

It has good easy to see colouring, a wide range of metal identifier sound tones and a practical holster for carrying on a belt.
Instructions are clear, but the print on the. booklet is too small for quick reference.
For its price it is a real benefit in the field.

Had this for 6 months, now have a top of the range minelab pin pointer and have used a garret.the sunpow is easier to use and detects as deep but dosnt have fereos discrimination or ground balance or variable power, I honesty don’t think you need those functions in a pointer.

I needed to fix a large ornate ceiling rose in our lounge which has a lath and plaster ceiling. The usual way of doing this is to use glue but I’d had the ceiling skimmed and so didn’t want to risk the rose pulling the skim finish off, and so had to opt for screw fixings which need to go into the ceiling joists; this device enabled me to find the joists by look for the lath nails. The process was slow and a bit hit and miss but without this device, I’d have really struggled to locate the joists for the screw fixings. Overall, I recommend this product.

My other half wanted me to order this for him and he didn’t waste time in getting it unpacked and tried out before I got home from work. He had been all over the house and garden trying it out, including burying coins in the garden. So when I walked through the door I was scanned all over and he was thrilled when me knee, which has been replaced, set it off.
Obviously he’s used it for searches elsewhere and is still happy with it. The size makes it easy to just pop into the the door pocket in the car and the fabric case makes it easy to carry.
    A good purchase.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’ve used this pin pointer on a number of outings and it has performed extremely well. I’ve not used the Garrett Carrot and so can’t compare with the high-end devices, but I’ve found the SunPow to be reliable and accurate. I’d definitely recommend it.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersOk so I have a minelab pinpointer and I must admit that this one is better picks up really well, highly recommend, there is only one problem and I have seen someone else mention this as well, it’s the battery fitting, it just sits on the terminals and you have to screw the lid on really tight for connection to happen, thinking about it might be better of putting some padding on the screw side will probably help this

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our Users*****Editing my review because it is NOT faulty… i didnt realise you have to clip the battery in, not just put it in the slot! Please ignore the negative points in my review, i will leave them there so if anyone is encountering issues you might see my review and realise the battery needs to be clipped in*****

I will be returning this in the hope that mine is just faulty, so I will update my review then.

I purchased this as a temporary stand in as I lost my more expensive pointer.

I have to say it is absolutely brilliant… when it works!

I am finding it refuses to switch on sometimes so I have to remove the battery and fiddle around with the tightness of the cap until it decides to come back on. Its a nightmare but I have high hopes that a replacement one won’t have this issue.

If the replacement works as it should then I am confident I won’t even replace this one with my usual brand as it does the job just as well!

It comes very well packaged. The pointer comes in a drawstring fabric pouch, along with a lanyard, holster and instructions. Packaged in its own box.

    It even includes a battery!

It’s highly sensitive and has different settings.. beep, vibrate, vibrate&beep.and it has a light.

I’m hearing it is waterproof but I have not tried this in water yet.

Overall I’m quite happy, just a little worried about it letting me down on the field if it fails to turn on but I will be contacting amazon about a replacement before I attempt to use it outdoors.

A neat unit, does exactly as it says – you won’t be the next Tony Beats – but if you’re looking to locate metal (close to the surface), this does just that at a very competitive prouce.

Save time from digging big holes this narrow the area down
    Makes detecting quicker
Good for me who doesn’t have must spare time to do the hobby
    Would suggest to anyone
Great tool also used to find pipes or cables in walls when doing DIY
Not tried it underwater but stills works after being in damp long grass

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAbsolutely great gadget to own, detect any metal from even 12cm, however the only downfall it doesn’t work in salty water. It turns on, and vibrates etc when turning on but when I use it it does t detect anything not even a ring on my finger (and it ain’t plastic :)so defo not for u derwatwr purposes however overall a fantastic buy.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersGood device. Only reason for not giving 5 stars is that it takes too long to turn on and off, i.e. 2-3 seconds for each. A slider switch with instant on/off would be nice.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI bought this item out of curiosity having seen them in use on YouTube etc., I had limited expectations of it as it was inexpensive as there are very expensive versions on the market but although I haven’t tested it ‘in the field’ I have found it highly sensitive to metal objects and jewellery I have buried and it picks up the scent from a good distance. At best it could be an asset, at worst, a good bit of fun that will certainly produce some results. I’d certainly recommend it for the casual hobbyist.

The delivery was quick and complete as per description. This product is good for children but not for an adult who is having difficulty bending down everytime. Otherwise I would recommend this seller for reliability.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersNot sure if I needed this as I bought it, but I really, really did need it!! I have found a lot more due to this, or at least I found stuff quicker. I haven’t checked it underwater yet but if there is a problem I will add it to the review. You get a sleeve to keep it in and also a pocket to put on a strap or a belt. Really easy to use. It has 3 modes to choose from, each selected by pressing on the only button on the pinpointed. You have beeping only, vibrate only and beeping and vibration together. That is what I set it to. The range and depth this wand finds metal is very impressive. I have no experience in other pinpointed but I am very impressed with this one. I hope not to have to change for a very long time!!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our Usersa few days ago I took delivery of an alternative and more expensive brand of pinpointer, I thought that would be the end of my search for a reasonable quality pinpointer. Unfortunately on its first day it lasted two uses before it then chose to start indicating a find but simply would not stop, the tip was clean and held well away from any metal but as soon as it went near a piece of metal it would start to vibrate and the led would flash but again it wouldnt stop until switched off and back on again, this happened the rest of the time out so it was returned. Today this new one arrived and it is more accurate, comes with more accessories and much cheaper too. so far very pleased to have the SunPow in my kitbag!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI thought the vibration mode was broke , then realised I had the battery in upside down. It is tricky to fit the correct way, but essential for vibration to work. If battery goes in easy way – connection poles down first – it is wrong. You have to put the base of battery in making sure the cable is positioned so you can fit the cap at the top which is a bit tricky as the wires only just reach. Beeper works either way, vibration doesn’t. The cheap one I bought has to practically touch to detect coins, distance less than half inch. Useless even for a child. This is more than double price but so much better. You get what you pay for I guess. Not used outside yet. Purchased as gift. Only given 4* for value only because I cannot believe how much these detectors cost generally, in comparison to some this is great value.

Golden Review Award: 44 From Our UsersMostly this has been a great pinpointer, contrary to what others have said:

    1. It does beep faster as you get closer to the metal
    2. You can change between beep with vibration and just vibration
    3. It is now waterproof

So the issue… As others have also reported, it randomly will decide to just keep beeping as soon as you turn it on. You can still just about use it because it will beep even faster when close to an object, but you loose that first level of detection because usually that first beep tells you that you are near.

For the life of me I cannot figure out what causes it. Tried new batteries, removed the circuit board to check for loose wires, tried holding down the power button in case it resets the ground balance, but nothing. And then magically it will just work normally again.

It’s a shame because now I don’t feel I can trust it to be ready when I need it and will be looking for a new one. I would love to recommend it, but as I’m not the only person reporting this issue its clearly a common fault.

    UPDATE:

I just couldn’t let it go, my engineer brain wasn’t happy…. the issue is a tuning issue and can be remedied it seems. To ‘fix’ the issue take a small metal object and hold it near the LED before you turn it on (you might need to experiment with the position), it should now turn on and be silent. At that moment in time it is tuned WITH the metal object there and removing the object will give you a pinpointer with very low sensitivity (less than a inch!).

If you now turn it off, remove the metal object and turn it back on, it should be back to normal. Failing that you can permanently keep a metal object in that location, ideally slightly adjustable in position.

    Waterproofing:

This is an update (July 2021), the latest model now has fixed the waterproofing issues. Previously the LED was pushed against a hole in the body of the pointer. That hole now has a waterproof resin seal over it. They have also upgraded the rubber seal on the lid.

    Final words:

When it works and stays working, it really does have great sensitivity. The light is so useful that I can use this perfectly well in the dark as my only light source when looking for the find. If you happen to find yourself owning one of these then you will not be disappointed if you know how to keep it operating correctly.

July 2021: I now have the latest model. So far it is working perfectly. If it develops the beep issue again i will let you know, but this latest model is upgraded and better than the last one.
