After seeing a Harry Potter wand in the Harry Potter shop at Heathrow recently, my son (5) made me promise to buy him one.
I wasn’t prepared to pay 60 for a wand, especially as my son has a knack for breaking things quite easily.
I bought him this one as a surprise and his eyes lit up when he opened the Amazon envelope.
The cardboard packaging it comes in is nice but it was dented and ripped at the top so if this is a gift for someone then I suggest buying early enough to exchange or refund if yours comes damaged too.
The little card it comes with is a nice token, although my son isn’t that interested in it so it sits in a shelf in the kitchen.
The wand itself is well made, looks fab and has a little weight to the handle which adds to the realism.
My son loves this wand and is frequently casting spells around the house nowslightly annoying when you’re trying to do the washing up and he runs up behind you and casts a freezing spell on you.
My 1 yr old has bashed it around a few times already and it bends really well so I see this wand lasting us a good while, maybe dare I say itat least a year.
For the price, this would be an excellent gift for any small (or large) wizard in training.
The item itself was great my daughter loved it. But unfortunately the packaging was broken on the plastic see-through part. If I child got thier fingers stuck in there it would probably hurt. So I taped it before I gave it to my daughter for her birthday. But the packaging did not matter because her face when she opened it was the important part. And plus the the wand is the part you keep.
I’ve seen some wands that are almost identical to this at much higher prices! The quality is great, and the design on it is near perfect, my daughter loved it!
Bought for a 6yr olds birthday is is Harry Potter crazy and it’s perfect. She loves playing with the wand. Appears to be quite sturdy (it has been smacked against a wall a few times and still is fine!)
I had this sent to my niece the actual amazon del was fine but once she opened box to find the main packaging was damaged bit is happy with her Harry Potter item
If you’re looking for an affordable replica wand from the Harry Potter world, then this is probably it. However this Harry Potter wand falls into an odd situation of being a bit expensive simply to be a toy, but not seeming to be quite high-quality enough to be a collectable for the discerning collector.
If you’re going to keep the wand boxed as a collectable, then fair enough, but opening the box for a closer look, particularly if you want to learn the spell on the spell card, you’ll find that the box is fiddly to open, and there was plastic tape stuck to the front of the spell card, which could cause damage if removed carelessly, or by excited young hands.
That said, as soon as it was out of the box, I quickly heard an interested “Ooh! Is that a real wand?” from my son, and he grabbed it and was off casting spells with enthusiasm. This was a useful reminder that his reaction makes my thoughts on this product largely irrelevant.
It’s all very well grumpy old men like me moaning about value for money, but at the end of the day this is a toy, and if you have a keen Harry Potter fan in the house, this will more than likely delight them.
This is your chance to be Garrick Ollivander and match a wand to your young wizard, but only if you have the Galleons to buy it.
We went for Harry’s wand, 8 year old loves it and for what it’s intended to be, a toy, then it’s perfect. It’s lightweight, flexible and is detailed enough for what it is. The cartoony style of the box implies that it’s meant to be used as a toy.
Like most things Harry Potter, not the cheapest.
If your wanting a collectible with fine detail to be displayed, then you’ll be going for a different collection.
