Works as expected. Good picture quality. Like the ability to send the sound to my smart phone, so you can listen on headphones. Remote has good usability. Didn’t have any issues. Would recommend.

Easy to use and set up. Was up and running in couple minutes.
Works with my tv and projector and pixel quality is really good, recommend as a cheap alternative than buying a smart tv. Does exactly what you need it to do!

Very simple to use, literally just plug it into the TV hdmi port and away you go. Set up the wifimconnection to your router. Select the apps you want to use, seems to cover all the UK to channels and streaming options, enter your account details and you are away. Have had regular system updates which install ok.

I like the small receiver box that works so well. It has a wide range, don’t have to be in direct line with it for it to pick up the signal from the remote control.
Setting up took a while but others may be much quicker at it .
Very pleased I decided to purchase it!!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI had an old NowTV stick which I had lost the remote for. Replacement for the remote was almost double the price of this bad boy so I got this instead. I really like this thing, strapped it to the bottom of the TV and it looks like it is part of the TV. The remote works really well. Very happy with this thing.

I love it, it’s easy to set up and use and great quality. It does ask for bank details when setting up however doesn’t charge you at all. It’s for if you want to purchase something on there. Other then that amazing

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersThis was delivered fast. It looks smart and is easily hidden out of sight with the sticky strip that is included. It’s tiny so no big bulky item on show. It’s turned my non smart tv into a great tv. I’m getting on in my years but this was easy for me to set up. The remote is perfect for it and I love the fact that it has a wee tab on it so I don’t have to go through all my remotes to find this 1, a lovely little touch. I highly recommend this product for anyone but especially someone who finds the new technology in life a little difficult.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersSky was costing us too much money this device we purchased as an alternative, easy to set up after an online registration,I was really surprised how this tiny box does so much. Only thing is the double sided adhesive tape supplied which you stick underneath, maybe it’s our glass table where the TV sits on it un-peels itself after a while, I think maybe it needs a stronger tape? I am very impressed with the speed, no errors and picture quality is very good and just works allowing me to watch apps like paramount, netflix etc and has saved me a lot of my money which is the purpose for buying this device.

Not as slick or easy as a fire stick but cheaper and does the job. The app does improve things with voice control etc. Also good to get the Roku channel

I bought this as a present for an elderly friend, she’s hooked! In her mid 80s and she has mastered how to use it after I showed her just once. Simple and works well and she just watches BBC up later and ITVx on it as sometimes there’s not much on live TV.

Easy to set up, easy to use and this one in particular is a great price for what it can do.
    Can’t go wrong with Roku.

Works well, got it as my fire stick crashed everytime I used crunchyroll but this works fine, was a pain to set up so I had to move the spare tv and the Roxu next to the wifi to set it up but after that I could move the tv back to where it was.

Great product, love the unfussy interface. Great value. Just a side note if you have vodafone broadband – for some reason the roku needs to be updated before it’ll recognise the vodafone wireless network. So you’ll need to either use a niaghbours wifi or more simply use your phone as a personal hotspot to set up and update. Once this is done, you will then see your vodafone network. Seems to be a vodafone issue, but easy enough to rectify (after I googled it).

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI originally bought one of these for myself in store somewhere, and then it ended up being borrowed all the time by my family, so I decided to buy one for the family home and it’s the best idea!

It’s a great price for the product you get. You can install many apps and it’s very small so it’s portable.

My favorite feature about this is that the home screens are customisable so you can personalise this. Another great feature is that you can download the Roku App on your device and then use your device as a remote control!

    I’d definitely recommend this product!

Worth the money as also gives access to other free channels/apps

I was hoping to like this item as much as I like the 4k Roku stick that I have in the front room, the down side to this Roku device is there is no volume control. There is no power on and off for your TV and you can’t pair headphones or anything else using this Roku device so my advice is pay the extra cash and get the upgraded version. I can see from the reviews that people love this ruko device, but they would love the upgraded version much more, as you can ask it to find things to watch actors et cetera and it’s more responsive than other devices I have used i the past.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI have lost count at how many roku’s I have bought, I have only had 1 break out of all the ones I have bought, the reason I have had to buy so many is because friends and family really like them so they – “borrow” – the one from the bedroom telly, never to be seen again I will be buying a roku TV soon and hopefully no one will ask to borrow that
If you are looking at streaming devices then I would recommend you try a roku, they are easy to install and set up, they take up a very small amount of space and is suplied with a strong adhesive strip so you can fix it in a suitable position. It comes with a few streaming services installed and it really easy to install the streaming services you want. The remote is also very easy to use, I wished I had purchased the system with volume control on the remote, then I would only need the roku remote to operate the TV.

Wish I’d ordered one for every room.

Bought as a cheaper alternative to a firestick but I prefer it. The firestick tends to freeze on catch up channels like iplayer or ITVx. This one doesn’t.

It also has a handy auto fill feature for adding new channels where it automatically applies your email, card, and password saved to your Roku.

And my favourite feature by far – I can bring my TV off standby with the Roku remote instead of having to use the TV remote and then the streaming remote.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersBrilliant. I bought this on an offer of <14, what a bargain. The picture quality is really excellent. The speed of response to the remote control is fast, the UI (User Interface) is basic and simple. I have linked it up with Amazon Echo (Alexa) and it works, sort of. The only issue I had was the Roku App which provides an alternative remote control with onscreen (mobile) keyboard and headphone ability, I found it unreliable and it ended up not recognising my Roku express, but, it did find my two NOW TV boxes (which were made for NOW TV by Roku), the only difference I found was that the NOW TV boxes were connected via ethernet using my Devolo Powerline system. The Roku Express does not have an ethernet connection or the software to add an external ethernet adaptor. The simple answer I found was to reconnect the Roku Express's WiFi to my Devolo WiFi (instead of directly to my router's WiFi), this means that the Roku ends up appearing to my main Router as effectively an ethernet connection. Once I did this, everything with the Roku App worked with no issues. I also got an immense leap in WiFi connection speed as the Devolo WiFi adaptor was in the same room as my Roku Express. Success.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersGreat value and basically perfect for my needs as I have a rather old HD smart TV with hardly any of the modern streaming apps available on it. This has every major streaming service plus many I’ve never heard of. It also includes BBC sounds (as well as iPlayer) and other internet radio services (Soma FM was a nice surprise for me). The setup was simple and the user interface is straightforward.

Just a couple of niggles that lost it a star:-

1/ As others have pointed out, there seems to be no way to reprogram the dedicated channel buttons on the remote. This isn’t bothering me as I use a universal remote anyway, but it would be annoying otherwise, especially as I only use one of the services. There also seems to be little need for them at all; the apps that appear on your home screen (that you can always get to with the ‘Home’ button) are entirely selected by you and you can arrange them as you like.

2/ I had a problem with jittery video on some programs. I initially thought it was a wifi problem (my TV and other devices that stream to it are directly connected via ethernet cable) but eventually found an obscure advanced setting that fixed it. If you have the problem, you need to go to: Home > Settings > System > Advanced system settings > Advanced display settings > Auto-adjust display refresh rate – and set it to ‘On’. There is a warning about black flashes at start and stop of playback but I’ve never seen them and it fixed the problem, so I wouldn’t care too much if there were. No idea why this should be hidden away like that or why it’s not on by default.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersPros and cons to this item.
Pro – Easy set up. Small unit so doesn’t take too much space. Streams pretty well. Easy remote.

Cons – My button layout is different (I have a Rakuten shortcut button not Disney+ which is a shame as Disney plus was my main reason for buying as didn’t want to constantly use it through Xbox)
If I turn off my TV and go back to the Roku I generally have to unplug the power as it will not activate through the remote. I’d rather have an on and off switch than have to go through that every time I use it.
Couldn’t find an option to map the shortcut buttons which would be a nice thing as I could set the main 4 channels I use.

Overall though if you have an older TV or older smart TV which doesn’t have app downloads this is a very solid alternative.
Has some good options like Netflix, Disney, Paramount and WWE network and some other wrestling channels like Fite TV and ROH.

Some useless channels too but overall definitely worth getting one as mentioned earlier for older tvs.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersMy wife and I used a Roku stick, in our bedroom TV, which had been advertised as Smart, but turned out to be picky, with apps, as well! Didn’t like Amazon.

The stick worked for years, but recently, thanks to those soooo helpful updates, it no longer picked up Amazon Prime – and my wife was pissed, let me tell you, as she was nearly through the latest scene of “Mrs Maisel”, when it dropped! Honestly, it still picked up Disney+ and Netflix, so what’s the issue with Amazon??

Regardless, I had a quick look, online, and saw the Roku player. It looked ideal, good value and we would already know how to work it. I ordered it as a surprise and it was here – in the blimmin Shetland Islands, 200 miles from the nearest Scottish coastline!- within 36 hours! How Amazon do it, I’ll never know. Fairy enslavement?

I set it up in seconds (literally), and it’s TINY. It’s actually only as long as the USB stick, and a teeny little thicker, so manages to sit entirely unnoticed, beneath the TV. I removed the now Amazonless stick and left her to discover it.

Boyoboy! Brownie points for me. She is hap-hap-happy again, and has now moved on to another series, also on Amazon.

This is just the business! Hopefully it will be a while before updates force us to buy something else! Please, Amazon? Shake hands and make friends with Roku again – you kids go on out and play nice, together, yeah?

*Perfect* and great value for money.

Well I bought this just to see if I could upgrade my old TV to a smart TV. I wasn’t expecting much at that price. When I saw the size of it I assumed I’d just bought a Wifi receiver/streaming extender that was needed in conjunction another set-top box. So when I powered it up to find a fully fledged operating system (stand-alone device with a ton of apps, streaming services and games) it was then I understood why these have rave reviews.
OK – I guess it’s not your Amazon fire stick or your Google Chromecast but at that price I don’t really care. It still does 95% of what they do as far as streaming all major channels and apps.
I’m new to streaming services (other than through my tablet) so was a bit unsure of Roku, as a brand I’d never really heard of. To be honest I’m not a big consumer of streaming services anyway, so just wanted something for the odd movie or catch up on missed episodes. I had a good play around on top of the advertised products I found it supports Spotify, BT Sport, Now TV and Google Photos too… and hundreds more I’d never even heard of.
I downloaded the app on my phone and that makes entering details for setting it all up a breeze. It’s nice and simple and allows a small amount of customisation (would still like to lock more down from the main home page so meddling kids can’t mess) but adequate parental controls. Adding other services was very straight forward as I was already signed up to most major ones anyway.
Was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the voice control on the app. It picked up a sports channel dedicated to a certain football club, which I wasn’t expecting to even find on there as an app – I was looking for something else but that popped up in the results as a bonus.
My only criticism – and this probably applies to all these types of devices… is I’d like to be able to filter out anything from a certain provider (I’ll never use Apple TV so would prefer it not to come up in results) or where it isn’t available… what is the point in following something which isn’t available to watch??

In short – does exactly what I wanted. Small, low powered and done everything very well with no glitches.
If I have one minor criticism it’s that the time switching between service could be a tad faster… it’s not slow, but it’s certainly not instant either. But hey…for that price!!??

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI picked this up for under 14 in the Black Friday sale – it’s still on offer for a little while longer.

I’m extremely impressed with this item.
The build quality and packaging are all to a very high standard. A nicely made remote and two Duracell batteries were supplied. Also supplied was a short 1/2 metre HDMI and a longer (maybe 1.5M) microUSB cable which enables the unit to stay powered when the TV’s not on, according to the included Quick Start Guide, you don’t have to use the microUSB cable in which case it will take it’s power via the HDMI cable – but this will lead to having to wait for it to boot when you switch on the TV. In practice, my unit didn’t work without the power from the MicroUSB. You should be aware you may need a mains->USB power adapter as it doesn’t come with one, but they’re cheap enough and I have spares from various phones.

    The setup was a doddle.
One disconcerting thing was that I was forced to registered some form of payment. There’s way round this. I chose PayPal.
A bit later after setting it all up, I checked my PayPal account on my PC and there had been no debits. On the Roku it gives you the option to, and I did, set up a PIN code so any purchase or viewing requires entry of the PIN. I then, on my PC went to the my account bit on the actual Roku website and there is an option to remove all payment methods which I did. There was a warning that some channels might require a payment method to at least be on file, even if no purchases are made. I’ll see how that pans out.

It’s a good idea after setting it up to go through everything to see what it can do. It’s kinda fun anyway. You have various themes/wallpapers too.

If you go into setting and do a search for channels, a letter at a a time, i.e. a, b, c, d, e, etc you’ll find there are an awful lot more channels than it initially volunteers, especially old movies and music channels etc so it’s worth doing.

I bought this for my guest bedroom TV as my 80 year old mum is coming to stay for Christmas – so it’s great that she’ll have access to a nice selection of old movies as well as the other stuff.

I was so impressed I went to buy another one for my living room but Amazon have limited to one only at this price. A number of other dealers are matching this price at the moment so I got one elsewhere. That’s 14 Mr Bezos didn’t make :p

The user iterface is really slick and professional. Reminds me of the Windows 10 Start Menu. Most people should find it pretty straightforward to operate. Set-up is the most complex part, where you’re logging in to services/creating accounts etc as necessary. Amazon Prime Video and Netflix setup was also very easy and they both work great. Previously I’d use my PlayStation for these services but this is even easier.

    A hearty recommendation.

Hook up and set up are easy, however Amazon prime, although sending me to a .UK link, keeps setting up the ROKU with things from my USA account. When I go to my online Amazon prime Video I see the movies I have purchased, but they do not come up on ROKU. There is absolutely NO customer service with Amazon. That is the WORST thing about this company, getting help. They ask for feedback, then you get a response that they do not reply to feedback. They have pages of FAQs that really are no help! So, ROKU gets 5 stars, AMAZON gets none.

Follow up: I finally made it through the quagmire of Amazon’s “help” area, past the FAQ s that were no help and many dead ends. I answered “no” to enough questions that it finally set me up with a chat tech. This person noticed that my account was defaulting to US instead of UK and reset it. ( I was an add on to my wife’s acct back home, when we moved here I opened a new UK acct. . I did do it from the US in order to have needed items waiting for us.)

It worked fine after a reboot. The multiple reboots, reloads and update checks did nothing prior to the tech resetting it.

If Amazon would just make ” chat with a tech” an option right from the start in the list on the help page, people wouldn’t be so frustrated by the time they finally find one.
