I love these scales with a screen that you can see the numbers. You can put your own bowlcontainer on. Lightweight. Would recommend

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersBought this scale to replace another one which I have been using for a very long time. I always buy Salter because it is long lived and the measurements are very accurate. My last one and also this new one have the advantage of being small, neat and easily stored. The fact that ingredients can be weighed one after the other without removing bowls etc is very useful. Fingers crossed this one will give me similar service to the one I’ve just replaced and I’ll be one very happy customer.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThe product description states it uses LR44 batteries. It doesn’t. I ordered an extra pack which has now gone back. It uses 2032 lithium coin batteries.

I like this product but need a magnifying glass to read measures! Easy to mistake grams and ounces. Thank you

These scales are very accurate. I make better cakes again thank you (much better than guessing). Sould have bought new scales years ago.

This is a good scale for the price and the screen position means that the weight can be seen even with a pan or bowl on the scale

Very accurate in all modes. They will detect a one gramme weight.
With a 25 year quarantine what more could you ask. The add item by switching off and then back in to show zero is a great idea

I like this model of Salter’s. My first one lasted more than 15 years. Well done Salter 1035.

I have two of these. I bought the first one many years ago. The design, which is very good, has not changed over the years. Easy to use buttons. Clear display. I thoroughly recommend these scales.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersPreviously I had a generic brand digital scale. I always had this nagging feeling that it wasn’t quite accurate, that it wasn’t responsive, and it had annoying button placement such that it was easy to bias the measurements. Using my previous scale, I would add small quantities of ingredients and the display would not update. Then I would add more, and suddenly the reading would show that I had added too much. Very annoying.

I wasn’t sure if this Salter scale would make much difference, but in fact it is a lot better. The scale is accurate and responsive, so when I add ingredients, the reading changes accordingly, and I am not left second-guessing the scale. The button placements are sensible, so I can zero the scale without accidentally affecting the measurement. I happily use this scale for making bread, where a measurement of a gramme can make a noticeable difference on the end result.

Overall I am happy to recommend this scale, it performs well and I can’t even think of anything bad to say about it.

Very pleased with our new scales. Replaced our previous Salter scales which stopped working after many years. Easy to use and keep clean. Only slight reservation is that the on/off reset button sometimes switches off when you want to reset.

Great product. Worked very well for just over 10 years – including 3 house moves! Started to drift slowly downward when we switch it on – a problem people occasionally seem to have at the several years point. Wasn’t sure if the 15-year guarantee would apply for 2011 purchases but Salter’s customer service was excellent: first they gave us some tips to try; when those failed they replaced it.

Still going strong after a couple of months of use. Clear and easy to use. Only minor quibble is that the display can be difficult to read in low light, or if overshadowed by the container sitting on top of it. A backlight would have made these scales perfect.

This is my 2nd Salter scales as the previous one started playing up and showing 2 batteries were dud when they weren’t. I like the design of this one as the weight dial is right in front of the bowl and much easier to read and has a zero button to add the next ingredient without resetting anything. It takes up less space too so just tucks in with the cookery books on the shelf, time will tell if it is reliable. Well boxed and quick delivery and 1 coin battery instead of 4 AAA.

Very pleased with these scales. Smart appearance and very easy to use, with a clear LCD display.

We bought these scales partly because our previous one had an illuminated display – which meant the 2 batteries had to be replaced quite frequently. These scales need only 1 battery and I expect the LCD display to give a very much longer battery life. I have read in some places that you need a jewellers screwdriver to open the battery compartment – not true on ours, very simple to remove a plastic clip-in cover.

Dimensions shown in Ad are a bit misleading, they refer to the cardboard box it comes in! The actual scales are 21cm x 15.5cm and thus nice and compact.

Small and slim – just what I needed for the kitchen. The scale works as expected. Measures in g, oz, ml and fl.oz
Tested out the aquatronic feature and it was exact for measuring amount of water. I have only weighed water but instructions say it is suitable for all water based liquids, e.g. wine, stock, milk.
I have put some photos to give idea of the size. For those interested it is 15cm width and 20cm length. It takes a cell battery. I have put an AA battery alongside in the photo only to give an idea of the thickness of the scale.
Easy to see the digits and works just as expected. A great addition to the kitchen.

Having had my old salter scales since we were married 49 years ago, I reluctantly ordered new ones as sadly they had, finally, died. Not surprisingly, the old model, 3007 is no longer made. So far, I am very pleased with my new scales, easy to use, easy to read and easy to clean. They neatly fit into a drawer. I also like the fact that they measure in units of 1g rather than the 5g units of the old model. There seems to be a knack to switching them off but I’m getting there. I don’t suppose these will last 49 years but neither will I!!

Design and dimensions make this a very portable weighing scale. I have to weigh food items for my dogs and this is very easy to take away with us when we travel.
It’s accurate and the ability to zero it between items being added is very useful.
Lost a star because the surface scratches very easily , in fact was an immediate problem on first use. This occurs even though I’m careful when placing and removing my Dogs ceramic bowls. Which means it’s appearance deteriorated straight away. Surely this could be made more durable.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersI have just received this and have had little time to test for accuracy and how it cleans up… for me the most important thing was to be able to see the weight, once the bowl was positioned on the scale.
Elementary you might think but I have previously bought two, one for home , one for caravan… once the bowl was on the scale it was in shadow and I had to use my phone torch to see what the weight was reading…. got a bit of a scare when I saw how small it was but it works…. my largest bowl on it and I can clearly see the weight…. very pleased… and relieved.

I purchased this one to replace a Salter scale which I had for about 9 years but eventually stopped working. They come with a 15 year guarantee, but you have to pay to return it so I didn’t bother, as it only cost 12 to purchase from a supermarket. I think it got water logged.
I like the design of this one because the buttons to operate it are separate from the load receptor pan, which means pressing the buttons will not affect the stability of the scale. The display is also separate which means it is easy to read when you have a large item on the receptor. Time will tell if it last longer than the previous one; I will keep it in a drawer to stop it getting wet on my worktop in the kitchen.

Golden Review Award: 41 From Our UsersI bought this in 2010 and it served me well for five years. In the end it got some water inside it and stopped working. Until then it did sterling work. I love to measure everything in the kitchen accurately, which it did so for all that time, frequently weighing up to 3kg of bread dough.

I replaced the batteries only once (CR2032 type, which I bought in a pack of 10 from Amazon much cheaper than individually on the high street).

Its small size meant it was easy to keep to hand in the drawer, and it was very easy to clean too. I bought another model as a replacement, because it was cheaper with similarly good reviews.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersBought to replace similar model which the button covers wore through. This model, the buttons have been modified and are more robust, so that problem will not happen with this. Would have preferred that the stainless steel weighing platform was removable for washing (like the previous model) but it’s not an issue really. Also, the buttons are slow to react. Slightly annoying as you have to press to zero the scales (wait) before you press the same button to switch them off (wait to ensure it’s registered the press). Other than that, brilliant and despite our previous model being years old, these scales give exactly the same reading. So I have high hopes for the longevity and accuracy of these scales.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersThe problem in my house, as I expect it is for other guys… The problem is that the wife has a system in the kitchen and I can’t work out where any of her stuff is kept.
I came home drunk and some idiot I barely know on Facebook posts how any days it is to pancake day, and that is it, now I fancy pancakes, google gives me the secrets about what I need to hunt for to make batter, and I can find the frying pan, but not knowing where the scales are the technique went a bit Scarface with white powder everywhere.

So I made a real poor job of mixing pancakes but after a while in the frying pan, I appear to have made a pretty good flatbread.
Not sure if you have ever got ready for pancakes and found you have accidentally invented the Pitta Bread, but apparently 2am isn’t the time to voice the achievements.

At some point during the treasure hunt that was failing to find the scales, I appear to have ordered a new set of scales for good measure, then eaten my pancake pitta bread monstrosity, and fallen asleep in front of the tv with a dog licking my hands and face which was covered in a mixture of flour and lumpy batter.

I was woken by the masterchef judges, in the form of the wife asking why the kitchen looked like white sludge had exploded over the place and why I didn’t clear it up before it hardened?
Not sure how I am supposed to know it hardens, this is more advanced science than I was ready for at 2am when I could barely operate my legs let alone the chemical reactions of starches.

I explained that I was sorry and I would get her something to make up for it, then later the new kitchen scales arrived and it went down quite badly, apparently you don’t buy women kitchen toys. I didn’t even remember buying them so it was news to me too.
I was almost sure the dog had bought them, but it’s not that bright
It is a wonder of online shopping, enabling us idiots to buy stuff while we can’t even operate a bladder properly…

The kit is great, the seller is great, I’m apparently no Jamie Oliver, but then I probably don’t have the tongue for it anyway

I bought these in 2010. They have worked perfectly for 5 1/2 years, until they got flooded with hot stock in a dramatic kitchen accident (no injuries to people or pets). Their only weaknesses for my use are the difficulty of reading the old black-on-sea green lcd display when I have a large bowl on them and I cannot use a large ceramic breadmaking bowl and expect to add much due to the weight limit. So I bought a larger scales from a different manufacturer to replace them. They are hopeless. They will not register small additions of ingredients such as dried yeast, they jump all over the place, the buttons are a nightmare and they stick at random values. I now realise how well made these old Salter scales were. They stay where you want them on the worktop, the buttons are decisive, they measure gram by gram and they are not jumpy. I am returning the larger set and re-ordering these.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAbsolutely excellent set of scales. I have been using these since 2009. They are simply the best scales I have used.

I have no problem with the switch buttons, and they do everything |I expect from a set of scales. I can weigh something, reset to zero and add something else to get incremental measurements.

I send quite a few packages to friends overseas, by airmail, and Royal Mail have a strict 2.0kg limit for the service I use. I use these scales to weigh the packages as I prepare them and before I finally take them to the Post Office to send.
Even after 5.5 years, the weight that I record at home is within only 1 or 2 grammes of the weight displayed on the Post office scale, which is regularly calibrated. This is for packages of 1.0kg – 2.0 kg (all my packages need to be under 2.0kg, and I frequently have packages of 1950g-1985g.

They are a nice size – easy to store, compact. Also easy to wipe clean.

I can not recommend them highly enough.

Golden Review Award: 19 From Our UsersThese are excellent and accurate scales, and very easy to use. However the reason I am posting this review is to call out Salter’s customer service.

I purchased the scales in August 2012, and recently they developed a fault (the on/off/reset switch would only work occasionally). Given that I purchased them two years ago I would have normally chalked this up to experience. However, the scales come with a 15 year product guarantee from the manufacturer, so I contacted Salter directly and once I had gone through their troubleshooting suggestions they arranged for a replacement to be sent out to me. The new scales promptly arrived a couple of days later. I was very impressed!

I’m marking them down 1 star for the fault that developed, but their customer service is easily worth 5 stars.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersA compact, smart-looking device – easy to store (can hang on the wall if you desire), and easy to use. No need for its own little bowl to find a place for and be limited by – whack any old bowl on it and hit the zero button and you’re good to go. Handy to be able to place even a big Pyrex oven dish on it and measure the ingredients directly into it. Of course, you can zero after each ingredient, so you can measure in each ingredient in turn with no trouble!

Nice readable display, and measures almost instantly without fluctuating.

Heavy enough to stay in place and feel well built, and the stainless steel platform is easy to clean (not that you’ll need to do so too much – after all, you’re likely to put on the bowl/whatever you’re measuring your food into and cooking, which you were going to have to clean anyway – so no additional stuff to clean).

This is a great pair of scales which allows quick and accurate weighing any foodstuffs and ingredients. The ability to immediately zero the scales when using a bowl or other receptacle and then re-zero to add a second item makes it so easy to use. It appears to be very sensitive to small additions or subtractions, which makes it ideal for calorie counting cereals and the like. Unlike other versions I have seen, the design means that the weight itself is not hidden by the bowl you are using.

It as far superior to the old “post office” style scales I have used for years.

I have only been using for a week or two so cannot attest to longevity but it seems to me that if you take care of them and don’t drop in a bowl of water they should last a long time. I put them away in the thin plastic sleeve after use just in case of accidents.

Golden Review Award: 219 From Our UsersI had several Salter electronic kitchen scales over the years. This one’s the best of the lot.

Compact – but not too small. Even with a large mixing bowl on the scales, the display is still easy to read.

Light – but not too light. Just under 400g, it’s easy to get out and put away, but is substantial enough to stay put on the working surface, and sits solidly on a flat surface.

An excellent LCD display. The figures are large and clear – the LCD isn’t very far below the top of the display area, so it’s easily visible and shadows from the bezel do not obscure it. The digits are 13mm high

Quick to start – less than two seconds from pressing the on switch to being ready to weigh things.

Good keys – the on/off/zero and the units keys have a good positive click when pressed.

The range – 5kg in 1g divisions / 11lb in 1/8oz divisions. That’s as good as you could want in kitchen scales.

The weighing platform is a pleasingly smooth, brushed, single piece of stainless steel.

Power: One CR2032 button cell. I don’t know how long this lasts, but it’s a readily available size.

Oh – and it has a mounting point on the underside. With a suitable flat-head screw in the wall, the scales could be easily stored hanging flat against the wall.

I’ve only had it for three or four days, so I can’t comment on the longevity of this model, but so far it’s brilliant – the best I’ve had.

    Update: 2nd May 2010
I’ve now had these scales for a month, using them every day. I’m still very, very pleased with them. Excellent Kitchen scales in every way. Hey – I’m pleased enough to have come back to find this review and update it!

    Update: 22nd July 2010
Yes, the scales are still going strong. I’m still very pleased with them.

There’s also a feature I now use frequently which I haven’t seen mentioned elsewhere. If you have a bowl full of stuff on the scales, and reset the display to zero, it will accurately show negative weights as you remove stuff from the bowl.

I make bread at home – usually in a breadmaker. Sometimes I want to make rolls. For rolls, I get the breadmaker to mix the dough and give it its first rise, but then I need to split it into equal sized lumps, shape them, and leave them for their second rise before baking. So, I put a clean bowl on the scales and reset to zero. Then I empty the dough from the breadmaker into the bowl. This gives me the weight of dough I have. I divide that weight by the number of rolls I want to make (e.g. 800g divided by 8 = 100g), and reset the scale. I take out some dough until the scales show -100g. Reset scale to zero. Repeat. Result: beautifully even rolls.

    Update: 1st September 2010
A couple of days ago, the scales stopped working. The display would come on as usual, but instead of resetting to 0, it would just display “unSt”. I tried a new battery, but that did no good. I contacted Salter, who said that that sounded like a permanent fault and that I should contact Amazon. When I went to do that this morning, I thought to give the scales one more try. They’re currently working perfectly again (with the old battery). Most mysterious. Despite this fault, I still rate these scales as the best kitchen scales I’ve had. I’ll update again if there are any further problems.

    Update: 10 August 2011.
The scales are still working fine. My best guess is that some moisture got inside, but eventually evaporated.

    Update: 20 January 2014.
The scales died permanently sometime in 2012. I think they got a bit wet again, and that did for them. So if I have one criticism it’s that their water resistance could be better. Lovely to use though.

    Update: 5 October 2014.
Since these scales are at an all-time low price today (10.40!), I’m buying another one. Let’s see how long this one lasts.

Update: 4 December 2015. I haven’t actually started using my new scales yet! But as someone pointed out in comments, five stars is too mcuh for some scales that died withing two years, so one star knocked off.
