I bought thus for my grandson for Christmas. He was very excited when he start making it. Unfortunately there were a few pieces missing. I contacted the seller and they applied straight away. The matter was very quickly resolved and the parts were posted out to me. Customer service was excellent. My grandson will be coming at the weekend and cannot wait to finish putting it together. It will look great when finished

Very difficult to use without bits falling off my daughter is very patient and tried to get it to work, she did eventually but still very precarious model.
    I wouldn’t recommend

This toy was really fun to build. Me and my son took time to build this carefully as the instructions werent the best but we did have lots of fun.
Definitely the ice dragon from GOT. We also downloaded the app to make the dragon move with the remote control but its movement was limited but we made the wings move and slowly managed to walk the dragon across the floor.
The bricks snapped into each other really well. Some of the cheaper lego makes arent always so good but this version is really decent, it will never compete with lego, but its not a bad version beta.

It is actually fab for a project! If you are buying for one kid, it is hours and hours of being busy and it is excellent for those who are into engineering and have a keen interest in robotics – a great intro! We got this for a task-based learning project for a group of year 9 and it did take them a few hours to assemble and was not without issues. First, assembly is not easy, as it has a massive pile of bits and pieces, and following instructions is not as straightforward as one would want. Once assembled, you will want to use it, right? And this is where you realize it is actually a little too fragile to be able to enjoy all its functionality. We ended up glueing most of the pieces and this makes it a one-off project that cannot be disassembled and reassembled, but it is still worth it! Not for 5 stars, given all the niggly bits, but still good – 4 solid stars.

This is a complex model set, which looks great when it’s finally done. I got it for my ten year old grandson, who absolutely loves Lego and is very good at building their sets. He needed a lot of help from my son for this one. It was a great activity for them to do together, but please be aware that this set probably can’t just be given to a child to get on with.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI have some issues with both mental and manual dexterity and have been utilising things aimed at kids but with multiple levels to them such as puzzles or kits like this one.

Firstly let me reiterate that this is a long and complex build, it was very hard for me and I stopped being a kid a long time ago but that same level of difficulty also brings with it immense satisfaction when you finish and get to play with/admire the finished article.

There really is a lot to admire here, the provided booklet makes the build easy enough to follow if not entirely easy to do, the legoish parts have a recognizable feel to them immediately and there is no small joy in hearing them click together over and over again.

The finished dragon looks amazing and although we only tried the remote briefly as he is more for display than play (age again) he moved well and looked good so no reason to assume that would be different on the app where you can program in more complex moves I’m told.

All in all this was a fun and time consuming way to rehabilitate for me and for under 40 I think it was a very good price and would provide somebody many hours of fun playtime as a gift.

I was surprised when I opened the box to see just how many pieces there were to assemble this. The instruction cook key is quite lengthy, however quite easy to follow. I do think a 6-8 year old would probably struggle to put this together without some adult help. Overall a good quality toy.

My 11 year old has enjoyed building this set and found the instructions clear and easy to follow, although did get caught out once and had to go back.
The pieces come on numbered bags, similar to Lego.
My daughter has built quite complicated Lego sets before but did need a little assistance with this one and had to keep coming back to it and build a little at a time.
I think it’d be too complex for a younger child . I’d personally recommend for 10 plus.
Overall, a good and quality set – would recommend!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for older children. clear instructions

The hurricane dragon building kit is great for all ages you do build it yourself which can be a bit tricky but once built it is awesome can be controlled by either the remote or download the app and use a tablet or phone you can make it follow a desired path or you can just make it do things like backwards forwards and spin it takes about 2 hours to fully charge for about 25 minutes of playtime and does have a charge indicater and comes with the lead great birthday or Christmas present that kids will love it is a bit pricy in my opinion but you get what you pay for so I hope this helps

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersAs Lego-compatible-but-not-Lego-brand products go, this is one of the best I’ve encountered, and we’ve tried a fair few.

The bricks are convincingly Lego-ish, obviously they lack the branding but the weighting of them and the fluidity with which they click together all feels very familiar and very sturdy. The colours seem similar, and the stickers and wing parts feel like they are of an equivalent quality. Even the instruction manual, with its nice clear print and layout, really does feel like it could be a Lego product rather than a cheap imitation of one.

The dragon is rather an impressive build as well. There’s a railway-engine-style piston approach on each side that causes the hind legs, front legs and wings to move around in a slightly comical but surprisingly effective walking motion. It struggles a little bit on thick carpet but it can walk around on a table or a hard floor surprisingly easily- admittedly with more up-down motion than forwards-backwards motion, but it does get there in the end. The remote control is surprisingly easy to control (the video attached shows my six-year-old steering it) and as a piece of engineering, it’s surprisingly satisfying.

It is also very swooshable, you can grab it by the torso and swish it around with confidence, and it’s also quite poseable too, in the neck and head- though the neck isn’t very strong so it tends to drop its head when the motor makes it walk.

I have to admit to not having tried to install the app yet, because the 2AAA-powered standalone remote control device does the job perfectly well. If in the future we decide to take the dragon apart, the core engine piece will undoubtedly have some use as a way of powering other vehicles of some kind, but my kids seem very pleased with the dragon at the moment so I think it’ll be some time before it gets cannibalised. I’m hoping to come back and edit this review once I’ve tested out the app, which sounds like it will be for older kids.

Assembly is reasonably straightforward. Nine bags are provided, and while the instructions don’t tell you when to open the next bag, it’s fairly obvious- when the current bag is running low and you need to find a piece that isn’t in there, it’s time to open the next bag. There are a few little ‘gotchas’ to look out for- there are two different sizes of claw piece which look very similar on the instructions, and ideally there would be a tiny bit more contrast in the instruction manual between the black pieces and the deep blue pieces. But we didn’t end up getting tripped up by anything or needing to go backwards, and it was a fun few hours sticking it together.

If I could change one tiny detail about this dragon it would be that the core motor part uses an unusual USB connector for charging. It would have been lovely if it took a standard microUSB or USB-C cable, for convenience. As it is, we need to make sure that the special charging cable doesn’t get lost among a tangle of other cables and Lego.

Lego-compatible sets can be a hit-or-miss affair but this is definitely one of the better ones.

The Sillbird Hurricane Dragon is a very cool and innovative building kit. It takes a lot of time and patience as there are so many bits. The instructions are clear. Page by page, it takes you through the steps to build this. I would say this is for more older kids. The dragon does all kinds of cool things, moves forward, backwards, left, right and rotating stunts. It also has moving parts like the head, mouth, wings and feet. The remote control is easy to use and has all the basic commands. I prefer using the app as there are some excellent features, such as programming your own commands. Overall, the dragon looks awesome, has a great level of detail and moves well.

This is an interesting bit of kit. Whilst aimed at 6+ I’d say realistically it’s for older than that, unless it’s not really for the kid and its for the adult. Loads of pieces to get this beast fully built. Great intro to robotics style toys.

It has a controller that comes with it so once built you can dragon around the place, you can also download an app to control it via your phone as well.

It is a touch fragile so it does need a bit of a careful hand when scooting it around.

    Overall, decent item though.

Really good cheap alternative to the big brand everyone knows and loves.

Everything is exactly the same. The building blocks are a good material. Really good quality.

Each section of the build is in bags and they are numbered nice and clear so you know which bag to use.

The instruction book is big however very detailed and all the instructions are easy to use.

I haven’t built this yet but I can’t wait. Seems really good quality and excellent value for money.

This toy is excellent!!! It’s with remote and APP controlled STEM, it just can’t go wrong with that, I ordered this for my 10 years old nephew, who is love to building stuff, and he was very happy, over the moon, it’s also a great way to let him learn how to deal with base technology, highly recommend i

This is quite a good project for a child with good motor skills. I would say that the suggested age group of 6+ is very ambition. The build is quite complex and fiddly and I would suggest 8 is the minimum starting age group. That aside, it is quite well made and designed and you have a nice model at the end of it. The app provides for some limited robotics, but I would say the play potential is pretty limited and the value comes mainly from the build and the finished model. At nearly 40, this is a premium priced item, which does feel a little steep for what is most likely to be a present.

Any child of the right age (I’d suggest 9-16-ish) will enjoy putting together this rather splendid dragon, though I’d suggest they’d need adult help if they’re at the younger end of this age group.

Once constructed, it will move in any direction, and a couple of hours of USB charging gains you around twenty minutes of playtime with the remote.

Just a pity that, being a dragon, it can’t actually fly!

    A nice, thoughtfully-built kit.

A really good robust gift for a young boy. Well packaged and great value for money.
Was a birthday present for a 5 year old boy who loves dinosaurs. He was blown away!! Brilliant and hassle free present!
Brilliant project for him. He absolutely loved building this (with a little help from Daddy) and ‘Roby the robot’ has been working brilliantly.
Very good interesting kit, good quality. Excellent value for money

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is great – an exciting and educational STEM toy at an entry level price. It’s based around the ever popular Not-Actually-Lego model, and consists of a CPU around which you build the dragon.

The negative points first. Despite being aimed at six year old’s and up, its a very complicated build, certainly for a six year old. Or a reasonably functioning adult, for that matter. It has nearly 600 pieces. And of course, being Not-Actually-Lego, we have the issue that you’re supposed to play with it when it’s built, and it’s far too fragile to do that.

This is a common issue with Asiatic toy makers. They get so carried away with the ingenuity of the whole thing that they forget someone’s actually supposed to play with the product at the end of it. What I would recommend is that a parent takes over for the build and glues all the bits together, though I know that’s not a perfect solution.

Get over that though, and it’s great. You can use it as a remote controlled toy with the included controller, but with the app you can do block-based programing to make the dragon go through sequences, which links to most computing curricula. To get that at this price is a huge bargain. It looks great too, and will look great on a toyshelf.

So to summarise, if you can get over the building issues it’s a great, affordable entry to STEM computing.

Really great building set that is compatible with leading brand.

Instructions follow a familiar pattern so that a child wouldn’t notice the difference and would still be able to complete the way they would be used to.

The biggest difference would be that the pieces are a little harder to put together in that you need a bit more strength to ensure they are flush together and that in some points is not as well thought out as you would expect. None the less a great set and fantastic build. My six year old completed this with minimal support and he loved the finished product.

I ordered this from Amazon vine for my godson. I did some research and what I learnt made me feel I was not only giving him a toy to construct and play with but one that will enhance his education and cognitive skills. A friend had told me how impressed she was with a similar item she had purchased from the same company.
This is a STEM toy, so Science Technology Engineering and Maths are covered it also introduces coding which the younger you are the quicker it is to understand and develop. My god son is 8 so he may need some help, but from my friends experience her 9 year old spent hours on it and loved it and had a great sense of achievement when completed.
