*I bought this tool to use as an alternative of perch de-scaler and it works amazingly. It removes scales and leaves skin on within seconds. Less effort and time consuming than other tools, scalers, especially knives. It works for perches, anyone who tried to de-scale it, knows how challenging it is. Ergonomic handle, small sized plate perfectly suits any size perch. So, this is your helper for 3 pounds.
Not sure how it does intended use job, it wasn’t a reason to buy in my case, so therefore 5*.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersThis tool has been around for a very long time, probably made in China now which is a pity. Very good but we should be making these here in the UK. I don’t agree with this global economy which must surely be contributing to climate change and environmental decline. Big mistake 🙁

I am happy with the two items I bought which are well made and very useful for a variety of carpentry jobs. Speedy delivery too!

I bought this tool to shave a bit from one of our internal doors as the smaller surform was okay but didn’t give enough purchase to taking a lot of shavings off at the one time.
And I always tend to buy brand named tools as you know your getting a quality tools that are upto the job, I also like that it has two hand holds and is comfortable to use, great tool and will give me a long life of durability I’am sure.

Used the surform shaver tool to plane a sticking door. It’s good, however a bit small which makes it hard to put good pressure in to it, which means it takes a long time! I recommend buying the larger surform plane tool instead.

For the price, and how much this helps you out, well worth it. I love doing DIY and at the moment renovating our old house. I made a under-stair cupboard from engineered wood. Cutting through with a saw was a challenge then you need to cut a few mill off to make it fit. This tool was perfect for the job. Instead of sawing again I just shaved it off with this little tool. Works great on natural wood and engineered wood, even down to 3mm thick, shaves it off great, will definitely be a repurchase, but not yet as still sharp, great tool. Just remember when taking it out package to remove blade from holder and cardboard first, ( don’t just pull it off). Replace after removing cardboard. Worth the money.

Really easy to use and doesn’t require gloves like a traditional rasp. I wish it felt a little more sturdy though. Next time I will look for the metal version of this handy rasp.

Needed something quick and easy to plane away the surfaces of wood logs I use for my pet’s vivarium so it’s not exactly any DIY work.

This was very affordable and efficient for my needs to just clean the surface of logs to get rid of dirt, etc.

From a DIY perspective, if you need to model something or get proper shape/smoothness, etc. you might want to use something more substantial.

Brilliant little tool – sharp and ready to use. I bought it to trim the edge of a wooden outer door that decided it wanted to stick.
I so wish I’d bought it sooner instead of sanding … and sanding … and sanding …
It’s done the job easily in no time and with a little light sanding the door’s ready for painting again. Thank you Stanley

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersHad a door that was sticking quite a lot so there was a fair bit to come off and this done it easily. Really impressed especially as it was a fraction of the price of a wood plane. Excelle

Have to say this is a great tool. When it arrived I was like what is this? How will it shave off wood?
But t actually does. I used it on 2 doors. Took them off the hinges and a bit of elbow grease and shavings are off the door. No more rubbing of doors on the floor now. Never judge a book by its cover is very much this produc

Lovely little tool – very sturdy – feels good in the hand & gives a great finish – I have just been used it on an old price of oak to clean the surface & looks great – excellent value for money.

I bought this to deal with a sticking door that was becoming dangerous. I used it to smooth off a section at the top to allow better interface between door and frame. I’d resolved the issue within 5 mins of the tool arriving at the house.

I bought this to plane the bottom of a door that was sticking. It felt silly to buy a proper plane just for this one job. This plane handled the job better than I expected – it does require a fair bit of pressure to cut properly though. It doesn’t feel durable enough to use regularly, but worked great for the task I had, and was super cheap.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersAs a RC Airplane Model maker, I was sad to recently lose my Razor Plane,
I found this tool as a possible budget replacement and found it is brilliant for trimming Plywood rib edges etc, prior to final sanding.
You can easily set the blade for regular or draw planing. I use mine a draw plane, which gives me greater control on the cut.
For my light jobs it is ergonomic and durable. Its bight Yellow handle makes it easy to spot on the bench, toolbox or rack. A handle hole allows it to be easily hung on a storage cuphook.
Overall, based on its big brother Surform tool. which I have used for decades, this baby works and is fantastic value for money.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersBrought this on chance… the door frame had swollen in our rental home, so needed to shave off the top of the door to let it shut. You do have to use some muscle power but actually it did the job! Cheap as chips quick fix not ideal for a tradesman or constant use.. probably would use for more thinner wood items. Don’t let looks be deceiving when you open, try it first!!

Great little tool n nice and sharp but 1 minus is the fact that it is made from plastic which makes it a bit light in hand and feels delicate for the job it is intended for otherwise good.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersArrived yesterday. The front door had swollen due to the recent hot weather and was unable to close without brute force. Used the tool to shave a bit off the top and side. The tool is easy to use, sharp and the handle is comfortable to grip and feels secure in your hand. A little more pressure is needed if the wood has gloss paint on it though, otherwise it glides effortlessly over small areas of wood. Job done in under 5 minutes. I cannot yet comment on how many uses I can expect before it becomes blunt. If/when blunt the blade (which resembles the finer edge of a cheese grater) mayneed replacing as I can’t see how this type of surface can be sharpened. Or perhaps like a cheese grater it doesn’t blunt!!! Worth every penny anyway!

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersWithin two minutes of unpacking this plane, I had done exactly what I wanted to do which was shave a couple of millimetres off the bottom vertical side of a door that kept catching. I left the door on its hinges which is probably what contributed to the speedy finish but it didn’t cause me any problems in doing so.

Because the file isn’t smooth (not sure whether it’s supposed to be for the job it does), I initially felt a bit unsure as I was dragging it down the door, but it only took about 10 drags down of the plane to do the job. It left the side of the door smooth so I only need to touch up with paint and job done. And to think I was going to engage the services of a handyperson/carpenter to do this!

Wouldnt use this for anything which needs a perfect finish, but needed it for a fence panel that needed shaping and with the help of a vice it did the job eventually.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersUsed this to trim a door down a couple of mms which really you need a proper wood plane. It is hard work but this can do it if you are willing. The use of this is more for trimming work tops;drawers and cupboards

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersFeels a little cheap, however, it does the job its intended to do. Wouldn’t use it for big jobs but ideal for smaller jobs. I keep this down at allotment so I can smooth off corners of wood, that may get caught, it does leave a slightly rough surface though. Mine came in yellow corner rather than red but doesn’t bother me the colou

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersBrought this to help trim down a bathroom door that was sticking. It done what was needed so I would recommend this for small jobs like this rather than having to take the doors off their hinges and plane them.
