Bought as a replacement to one that got damaged in bad weather. Great way to easily monitor rainfall over the year and compare Year on year if you are a bit sad like me!!
Unfortunately not lawnmower proof if wearing sunglasses !
Will buy a different colour, see if she hits that.
4.0 out of 5 stars Works well
Works better than expected. lasts well providing you avoid direct strong sunlight as this makes it brittle
Really easy to use but need manually emptying when you want to reset it.
This is my third. I feel a little bad re-buying these because of the plastic waste, but nothing lasts too well out in the sun for several years. The plastic gets brittle and can crack. But these are really cheap to replace as needed, and give a nice accurate reading. The shape also means that for low rain they are extra accurate because they gather rain through the wide top opening but are very narrow at the bottom, so 1mm of rain is easy to ready. But as they fill up this “magnifying” effect drops off so for heavy rain two inches can still be registered. Simple and effective. Empty when needed or before rain is forecast to see how much rain each rain shower holds. And it also provides proof of how little rain we do actually get down here in the South of England, relatively speaking, which is handy to refute my son’s regular assertions that it’s “always raining” 🙂
5.0 out of 5 stars Very good buy!
This is proving to be very useful in measuring the rains we are having in my area and is just as accurate as the more expensive rain gauges.
4.0 out of 5 stars It does what l wanted
I ordered it to catch the daily rainfall- which is exactly what I wanted
4.0 out of 5 stars rain guages
brilliant and easy to explain to a child as part of an ecology project for school
Great to be able to replace this pa
The plastic top of our rain gauge went very brittle out in all weathers and eventually cracked. Was very pleased to be able to buy just the top and not have to buy the whole thing again and the green colour won’t discolour like the clear one so is a huge improvement.
5.0 out of 5 stars Simple and effective
Love this! So nice to have an indication of what rain has fallen over the day.
Arrived quickly and being green, blends into the garden well : )
4.0 out of 5 stars Rain catche
Used as much as a novelty than for serious rain measuring does the job well
4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use
Easy to use. Only concern is that the ground spike might turn out to be a little fragile. I am very happy with the rain gauge so far.
Rain Gauge
This is easy to read and the spike makes it easy to place in the garden.
The plastic is brittle and I know I will knock it and it will crack as previous ones have. But it’s cheap enough to replace.
Does the job
It replaced one of a similar style that got broken. This one seems to be OK, but I suspect it is vulnerable to breakage if a storm wind happens to grab it and throw it around.
A reliable low cost rain gauge. It replaces another which developed a crack within the plastic cone. I’m not convinced it measures totally accurately. I have kept the cracked one, which I sealed with glue and tape and compare totals. This Tildenet gauge seems to undermeasure the rainfall total compared with the previous gauge. It would require a third gauge to prove which one was the accurate gauge. As an easily readable rain gauge it doesn’t disappoint.
It’s accurate and easy to use – The Only problem = Mother Nature, it’s hardly rained since I bought it. But it does prove that fine rain that dampens everywhere doesn’t provide much rainwater (less than 1mm, so still need to water the plants). When it did rain properly it registered on different days 2mm to 14mm which sounds accurate to the rainfall those days (will obviously be more in winter).
Gooid but difficult to read.
Although this has many positive points the one negative is that the markings are difficult to read. It would be better if they were larger or in a contrasting colour.
An easy to handle and install and clear to read rain gauge. Because of its compact size it is easy to find a place to mount it and the spike in particular keeps it firmly upright in soil or sand. A good gadget for the amateur meteorologis
Works well and easy to read the water levels. Ok to leave out in all seasons and a nice sturdy plastic. As a keen amateur weather watcher I find this very useful and have bought other versions over the years but this is definitely the best so far.
Gotta give it 5 stars as does what it does ...
Gotta give it 5 stars as does what it does correctly. My last one lasted 4 years till it cracked but then again I use it in South India where the monsoons are colossal and the UV high so I guess it cracked eventually through over exposure for too long.
easy and siple
After recent flooding I am now measuring rainfall . this is qucik ,,, easy and siple. Sits in my raised bed by the back door and helps me to monitor the rainfall I get. Useful little rain gauge- I doubt it would suit hard ground but my raised bed is perfect for it.
I use this every day to measure rain fall and it seems to be very accurate. I would guess that being made from plastic care would be needed because I am sure that it would be fairly easy to break the spike off the bottom (this is the only reason why it got 4 stars, this may be harsh so 5 stars if used with care). The scale though clearly marked can be a little hard to read especially by torch in the dark. I have wooden borders in my garden and so drilled a hole in the wood and placed the spike of the pot into the hole. It works a treat.
What it says on the tin…. Does the job well. I think the spike might be shorter than the last one we had, which lasted ten years, but came to grief when the new cat jumped off the wall, landed on it and broke it. Hope this one lasts as long. How sad is it that I can’t live without a rain gauge?
