Works perfectly
Worked straight out of the box. Tried it on Vodafone and three both worked fine. The Sims are both data Sims not mobile phone Sims. Phone app is good and work’s well.
Great for stability of connectio
I like that the battery does last prob near 8 hours and the screen is really handy to see the connection and strength. I have used this for teams meetings and even when the network has been on 1 bar (due to my providers and locations) the stability and calls have been very good. I used to use a hotspot of my phone, but this is so much better, more stable and doesn’t rinse the battery on my phone.
Useful and practical device
Easy to setup, insert Sim then battery, switch it on and you’re in business. Clear display, if a little small, and good menu with decent options. Battery life isn’t quite as good as reported but that’s of minor import. Overall, does what I need (gives me wifi internet access in my mother’s house who doesn’t have broadband) very pleased with purchase and would recommend.
Great little hot spot that works flawlessly
I owned and used this item purchased from amazon for a couple of years, with a data-only SIM from Three. Set-up was easy – the back has to come off the unit so you can slide in the SIM card and fit the rechargeable battery but there’s a notch on one corner allowing you to get a fingernail in.
Switch on, and the box should start to try and sign on to your SIM card’s network then report “connected” and the service obtained such as “4G”. The device has a pre-set numeric password string which can be found by navigating the menu options. There are just two buttons on the device – one marked “home” and another on the top side, and a combination of the two allows you to cycle round each menu page and then make selections within each page where appropriate.
One nice feature is that this box serves out a web page interface via your local IP network (use http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1 as the web address in most cases). Here you can change the router access password and make a lot of configuration changes to the wireless network for security purposes, etc. The default user name and password are both “admin” (all lower case”) and it would be advisable to change these as soon as you can, for security reasons. If you forget your user name or password and can’t log in through the web page, there’s a pin-hole “reset” button which can be pressed with the aid of an unfolded paperclip (with the unit switched on) so everything gets reset to defaults including the admin/admin user name and password.
Looking at my network provider’s website, my locale is marked with 4G outdoor service only, yet I was able to get 4G service indoors provided I positioned the unit carefully. The wi-fi signal was great, but I didn’t try to connect to the box from outside the room I was using it in so I’m not sure it would fill a whole house but you never know.
Battery life was a couple of hours when fully connected and working, but I nearly always used the unit with permanent USB power connected.
One thing to note is that I sometimes got a “battery overheat” condition whilst running on external USB power, which was quite odd. The unit would literally report over-temperature on its screen, and switch off. I then had to wait several minutes before the unit would turn back on again. Feeling the back of the unit, the battery inside had indeed got hot. I’m sure the charging circuit should switch off when the battery is fully charged, but apparently not sometimes for me.
The other thing to note is that the back plate that you remove to fit the battery and SIM card is quite fragile. In the two years I owned the unit, it fell off the shelf where I’d put it (remember I had to find just the right spot to achieve 4G connectivity in a fringe reception area). All for corners of the removable back ended up being chipped and broken, and on one occasion I broke more off one of the corners just trying to get the back off the unit, hence me mentioning the tiny cut-out on one corner which should ease removal for you. Just be careful getting the back off if you want to look after this item and are looking to re-sell it at a later date. Gently does it.
Overall given the price and functionality (which was pretty much flawless) I recommend this item. I only stopped using it because I got a dual-SIM phone with my data SIM as the second SIM, so I could use hotspot tethering at home and also mobile data as conveniently as possible whilst I’m out and about, even if that’s just providing 4G connectivity for my sat nav whilst driving, so I get live traffic updates.
I can see the application for someone who doesn’t want to be bothered with smart phone tethering but does want to use a wi-fi only tablet or computer at home. Very easy to set up and it just works without a hitch in my experience.
Hi
I used this product for my smart TVs box I can steam my movies anywhere I go speed is not great because using mobile SIM card but plays movies without buffering only on 3G 4g no good for streaming but good for tablets or phone
Does the job
Brilliant use in caravan for all our Wi-Fi much better than our previous one can’t remember the name supports 2 phones 2 laptops and our fire stick no lost Wi-Fi issues great produc
Used as a WiFi hotspot abroad and very pleased!
REALLY easy to set up and use. Very portable and straight forward. Useful display differentiates it from slightly cheaper ones but you can then navigate a menu rather than guess. We have poor data reception on our phones when we visit our house n Spain and cable would cost about 40 a month when we only go occasionally. This is ideal – put in a pay as you go SIM which has a good local reception and you have strong WiFi.
Best investme
I live in an area without high speed broadband and this device has been my life saver!! Got an EE unlimited sim and it’s cheaper than paying for normal WiFi
Connectivity when camping
Available wifi on campsites can be less than reliable especially when busy. We needed something a bit more to connect & occasionally stream a footie match when away from home. It arrived quicker than quited. Delighted with this piece of kit and it worked superbly, even though I’ve only used it once. Another arm of being independent when away.
Great little item, worked perfectly from the first moment.
Used for a second home and using to power our iPads plus our new smart TV, had it 6 weeks now and is working perfectly. We bought a 120gb data only sim but have not been here the whole time so not sure how long that will last seems to be using between 2.5 and 3 gb a day. Loving it.
This is a good easy to use, easy to install product. The quick installation guide is fine, but you miss out on so many features such as internal SD card storage sharing; so a visit to Tp-Link’s website to get the full manual is well well worth it.
Some of the features are mirrored on the colour menu, but without explanation – such as the ‘roaming issue’. ( You not only need a Europe-wide roaming SIM installed if going abroaad, but you need the device software to be told to also permit roaming. ) I would strongly advise against the full PIN lockdown on the device that is also offered.
The 4G broadcast needs to be 2 bars or more for the 4G to be usable. Partly that’s a carrier issue and partly an internal aerial issue.
Given that most phones work so well, why this product? You can tether a laptop or tablet to a phone but that means the user has to stay close to the phone … I’m thinking kids here … so this product has a useful niche and when there are aa lot of you around with such devices it just makes connections easier.
Enough for small house.
I 1st had the TP-LINK M7200 MIFI. It was fine so long you are close by it.
Returned it. The TP-Link M7450 mifi had a strong enough signal for 4 peoples PC’s & Phones + Printer & TV.
SUPER ROUTER
So glad I bought this Router. I tend to leave my Routers permanently plugged in and charging, which in the past using Huawei Routers, results in them getting hot. This Router switches itself off after 10 minutes inactivety and remains cool, at all times, On or Off. To reactivate it all it needs is a light touch on the button. It also has multiple information icons ( progammable ) which I personally don’t need but would be an added bonus to those who do.
Switches on and off much nicer and positively than Huawei.
Definitely the best Router I have had in this class.
Great portable WiFi box
Brilliant little 4G router box. Very simple to operate and use. Got this for my dad to use with his iPad as he doesn’t yet have broadband internet in the house so this was a perfect solution to get him online. He needed something easy to use and this was certainly the right choice for him.
You might get a ‘weak security’ warning when connecting your phone or tablet but I think this might be because the WiFi password was just a series of numbers and not a mixture of numbers and letters which would obviously be more secure. I think the app which you can install on your phone to manage the box could probably allow you to adjust the default password to something else.
Works well with good quality
It just works. Really easy to use and works well. It works in different parts in Europe without any issue. I had used it to work remotely for about a month and had no issue.
Fantastic download speeds, about 10 times fast then my previous portable WiFi device.
Great battery life. You can set the signal strength to close, medium or long which helps with battery usage. Also if nothing connect for 15 mins the device goes to sleep, again conserving power in the battery.
Compact and powerful
Easy to set up, no dropping out even with multiple users. Great piece of kit for travelling. Good speed (network dependant) we use a Vodafone sim and it works great. Would recommend this product.
Brilliant little 4g route
Purchased this to work in the caravan as often caravan sites WiFi can be very hit and miss. This works brilliantly!!! Just popped a Giffgaff pay as you go sim in with unlimited data and managed to stream Netflix and amazon in the caravan perfectly through the amazon fire box. I would not be without it now. Phone calls on WhatsApp and Viber work prefectly. You can download the app on your phone and control further setting on router like how far you want signal to transmit to save on battery life the name of router etc.
First class produc
Compact and convenie
I’m travelling with my wife in the UK and the data rates on our US cell phones is financially crippling, even with their supposedly cheap “global roaming” package.
Also, some of the places we’re staying have spotty wifi and we need good connections to run webinars for our clients.
So I bought the TP-Link MiFi unit and grabbed a Giff-Gaff SIM chip from a supermarket. I’m now paying a fraction of my US carrier’s data rates and getting great performance. We have even had both our laptops connected to it while running webinars and it supported full video for both of us with ease.
I love how compact this unit is — it fits in my shirt pocket so my wife and I can use our cell phones for internet access while out walking. The battery lasts for many hours and it’s easy to recharge via USB.
I downloaded the control app for Android which makes configuration very easy.
All in all, it’s an excellent product and I’m very happy with it.
Great portable WiFi in your pocket but battery could be bette
I use my tp link at my caravan that has very poor WiFi I bought the cheapest sim card available and at 10 a month I can now watch amazon prime whenever I wa
Excellent device for the money
Use this whe travelling. If there’s a strong 4g sugnal it works fine serving phones and tablets. It doesn’t enhance the incoming signal but it works well in adjoining rooms. Good value.
Easy to install
It is easy to install and neat and tidy. Read all the different reviews on similar things and this definitely came up best. Plugged in SIM card and it was working, however signal like with many is intermittent and slow, but it does save you taking out an expensive contract, smarty sims are cheap and work with it well.
Broadband on the go
Inserted SIM card and battery, turned it on, changed my POP settings on the midi app..Simple as that. Internet connection even when my phone had no signal. Great bit of kit. Bought as a replacement for a much older version. Brilliant speeds, enough for my needs.
First Myfi Great bit of ki
Small, unobtrusive, Good battery life with variable signal strength to get the maximum 8 hour charge. Cuppulled with the right SIM you have a very good combination, you need to check the areas where it will be used as not all cards provide the same level of coverage (just like mobile phone blackspots). All the information required can be seen on screen or best using the app. I did have a couple of issues initially with connection this was very quickly sorted out with a few emails to TP customer service who were very good once my issue was identified. For longer usage to extend batterylife leave plugged into a USB charger. As travelling in some areas may be problematic may be best to have a couple of PAY AS YOU GO SIMS. For any heavy usage 4G band width can be limited and the lack of any additional connectivity may limit some users. Very please with my first mifi with great price too and certainly looking for the 5G upgraded version.
Great little device
Works perfectly.
Needed to use the app to configure but no big deal.
Battery life struggles to get to 8 hours, but we leave it on a charger.
Only downside is it’s not 5G.
But a great product.
So far, soooooo good !
I purchased this TP-Link device to replace my Fibre based service from Plusnet. Using an EE sim, I’m finding the performance on a par with my previous fibre service and the unit provides good coverage across my living space – minimum 25mb/s upload and download in all areas. The closer the unit is to your device, the better the performance. Very pleased with it so far and seemingly much better than the fibre service as I can take this small and compact unit on my travels – sometimes to remote areas with zero wifi.
TP-Link WiFi gadget.
This is a neat little gadget, it works in the car and in hotel while travelling, I didn’t have any instructions, it took a while to set up. It takes a memory card and a sim. I still don’t know what I’d use a memory card for?
Box works well when the mobile signal is good
The reasonably priced device came on time, and was very easy to set up. Open the back, pop in SIM, check the battery level (mine came with a battery needing charging) and connect.
The WiFi signal was very good, full bars on my phone and laptop. Additional configuration (password change etc) was slightly easier from my laptop, but the Android app did its job well also.
One thing to remember is that the battery in the device is not very big (1200 mAh iirc) so charging it up will happen frequently.
The only other annoyance – which really has nothing to do with the device itself – is that the mobile data speeds from the SIM provider’s network can have wild fluctuations depending on the location. During my recent holiday, my accommodation location had speeds between 0.5 and 4 mbs on a 4G LTE network, half a mile down the road speeds were consistently over 12 mbps. So do try to check which network offers the best mobile coverage for your location and get a payg SIM for that network!
Download the app when you buy this
Works excellently. Just note that it only takes standard sim cards- so if you need to, use adaptors from any sim cards which you may have. there are a couple included in the pack but I found these to be a bit too large to fit around the micro sim.
Do download the app for proper control , much easier than using the display and button on the unit – and of course you need the app to read any SMS messages sent to the card, you can’t do that from the unit.
Overall good and the best part – long battery life of 6 or 7 hours.
