A set of five LED lights on the parent unit indicates the level of sound in your baby’s room so you can visually monitor noise level with the receiver muted.

The speaker volume on the parent unit is easily controlled by pressing the up or down arrow keys. When the parent unit is in mute, the visual sound indicator will still indicate the sound detected from the baby unit.

The parent unit emits different alert tones for situations needed your attention.

Beeps twice every 10 minutes when the battery is low.

Beeps three times every 30 seconds when there is no link or out of range.

Lights on steadily in green when the parent unit is on and linked to the baby unit.

Flashes in green when there is no link between the baby unit and parent unit, or when the parent unit is out of range from the baby unit.

    For the price, this baby monitor is absolutely awesome and surprised both my partner and I with the amazing sound quality. I can’t get enough! Even the lowest volume wakes me up after working all night!

    I originally purchased a used-like new Motorola AM21. It was a terrible monitor. This was working out of the box and feels substantially better made. More features, and the sound is good enough.

    Plenty of features, plenty of value.

    Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThe range of the monitor was very good, downstairs to upstairs, front to back of house. The device was potentially very sensitive, but could be adjusted to minimise quiet sounds. Electric power leads for both monitor and parent stations were long enough, but the stations themselves were rather unstable when placed upright. Resetting the parent station was fiddly. However, overall, it was very good value for money.

    Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersWe brought this monitor last minute when we decided to move our little boy to his new room. For the price this product does exactly what it says. We have been using it everyday since we’ve brought it however, we realised we needed to place the baby monitor part closer to our baby as it didn’t pick up any noise from him to begin with, but works fine now.
    Deffinately will be continuing using this product and hope it lasts!

    ==================

    Another 2 years on and this unit is now about 7 years old and still going strong. Baby 2 is now 2 3/4 years and we use this every night.

    I had to change the batteries again. It took trial and error to find a set that worked well. I eventually found some designed for a cordless phone which work as expected.

    I also found that the plug that connects to the parent unit was beginning to look a bit fragile in 2020 so I reinforced it with some Sugru and it’s still working perfectly 2 years later.

    7 years use at this price can’t be beaten!

    Update (25/10/20):
    ==============

    Now on baby number 2 and it’s still going strong and doing the business, but I have had to change the batteries in the parent unit.

    We used with child number 1 until she was about 3 1/2 I think put it in a draw and when we got it back out in January 2020 it’s continued to work like a dream.

    An absolute bargain I’d highly recommend.

    Update (14/02/17):
    ==============

    We’ve now had the baby monitor for over a year and it’s still going strong. The battery still lasts well and everything is still as good as it always was. I’d still buy this again without hesitation. However, now we have a toddler I have some additional thoughts.

    When my daughter wakes up she will often sit and play with her toys… this is transmitted quite clearly. It’s lovely to listen to her playing on her own.

    Once she wants to get up she’ll stand in her cot, rattle the side and say “mummy” or “daddy” repeatedly until someone comes. That’s ideal for this monitor, but as said in the original review it might be an issue if you’re child doesn’t call repeatedly.

    In 12 months we’ve had no issues of missing a call or the unit not working. It always connects to the baby unit very quickly.

    We’ve taken the unit away with us to family and to B&Bs, and the like, and even in larger houses it connects without issue and seems to have a huge range.

    Having a toddler I now think the talk back function would be more useful. It would be nice to tell her that we were on our way or that everything is OK. It’s not a big deal though.

    For 20 I’m still delighted and highly recommend the VTech unit.

    Original Review (August 2016 – 6 months after purchase):
    ==========================================
    My wife and I have been using the VTech BM1000 since the beginning of February. We bought it to replace a BT monitor that kept failing. We had 3 of the BT monitors in 3 months before we gave up because of what was evidently a design fault. I was initially a bit reticent of buying the VTech unit because of the mixed review and overall 3.5 star rating, but I’m glad I did.

    The unit was super cheap for the type of product. I don’t think there was another digital baby monitor at the same price point from a reputable company and with any good reliable reviews.

    The unit is super sensitive which is great and not what I expected given some of the negative reviews. The thing to be aware of here is that the first noise it picks up it doesn’t transmit. This helps to stop false alarms and make sure that you actually need to respond, but it might not be ideal if you’re planning on using it with a toddler who only says “mummy” once before being quiet again. It’s great with a baby that will cry persistently once awake however. We have the baby unit across the room from the cot and it picks up our baby rolling over in her sleep and you can even hear her breathing. It also picks up the faint sound of our neighbours dog barking and transmits that if he’s having a barking session. It’s not loud enough to wake the baby but it still gets picked up and transmitted.

    The battery life is excellent. We have the parent unit plugged in whilst we’re asleep, but it’s used during the day and all evening on battery and we’ve not even got close to the end of the battery. The baby unit has to be plugged in at all times however.

    The belt clip is useful… more useful than you might think.

    The light up sound indicator is also useful when you either can’t hear or want to have the volume down (for instance when watching a film).

    Negatives

    The sound quality isn’t great. It’s nowhere near as good as the BT was when it was working. However, you don’t need great quality to hear a baby crying and it’s good enough that when my wife is in with the baby I can hear every whispered word and understand them all.

    No talk back function. I’m not entirely sure that we really miss it. I don’t ever remember a time when we had it and managed to talk the baby down using it or when it’s calmed her down until one of us arrived.

    Overall I’d say this was a fantastic buy and would recommend it to anyone in the market for a baby monitor.
