Signs of Bed Bugs

Bed bugs cause bites to the skin, mainly around the ankles or exposed areas whilst sleeping. These bites don’t generally cause lasting harm but can be itchy and sore.

Other tell-tale signs include dark/rusty spots of bed bug excrement on sheets, mattresses and bed clothes. A musty odour caused by the bugs’ scent glands may also be noticed.

Causes of Bed Bugs

Bed bugs aren’t necessarily related to uncleanliness but as a result of lifestyle with many bed bugs hitch-hiking from place to place via luggage, clothing and belongings.

Be careful where you leave your bags and cases when staying in hotels or other accommodation.

Treatment & Prevention

Help prevent their arrival by repairing cracks in walls and removing clutter where they may hide. Vacuum carpets regularly and along skirting.

Use Zero In Bed Bug Traps to monitor for infestation and the range of sprays and powders to treat areas where activity has been seen or recorded.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersBought this product, just in case. Not sure if we have bed bugs or not, thought better to be safe, than sorry, and have a can ready. Was concerned it might smell terrible in use, but it doesn’t. Used in ventilated bedroom, but probably fine spraying, without windows open. Will now wait and see if anything occurs. Bought just for a little reassurance and peace of mind really.

I bought this product to be on the safe side to keep the bedding free from any undesirables. However, one squirted on it needs to be well ventilated as within seconds not only myself, but the dog was sneezing and not through excessive amounts. I do not have a problem in any way, shape or form with a product Worked well, all I would say is if you only have a small house or a small room, give it plenty time to air, but I would buy again no problem

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI’m not sure that this is effective at killing eggs but it definitely works on the bugs themselves. I found it much more effective than more expensive sprays.. BUT I made myself ill using it, I felt my throat burning and had to stop, the following day I had chest pains and couldn’t swallow food. I’m feeling better after a few days but I just wanted to warn people as I don’t think there are enough warnings on the product itself.
Make sure you protect yourself from breathing it in but yes it does work to kill bed bugs

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersSprayed half of bottle on the sofa, woke up next morning and lord behold, dead bloodsuckers on the floor. I collected some dead ones and put it on top of the envelope (I’m not going to post them, caml down) just to show you guys, because I know some of you wired like that and like to see dead bugs pics. Good product, wear a mask when spraying Good hunting.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersHad a problem with bird mites getting into our bedroom through a crack in the window. Sprayed this along the crack and I’ve found so many dead mites on the window sill and around. I also have dogs and just kept them out the room for 24 hours and it was all good. Highly recommend if you have bird mites

This is the only line of defence I have against those terrible critters. I have personally taken a bedbug and sprayed it from a medium distance for 3 seconds, it died very fast so it certainly works. Recommended because it’s cheap

Golden Review Award: 26 From Our UsersThis has drastically helped. It’s very effective, though several treatments are necessary due to the cycle of egg laying/hatching. I’ve treated twice – one week apart. I’ve been bitten once in 7 days instead of several times (prior to treatment), so will re – treat weekly for around 6 weeks. I’ve isolated the beds and used interceptors on all bed feet filled with Diatomaceous Earth. Time will tell – it’s a slow process but I feel like we’ve eradicated the majority and will get to zero Bed bugs soon. I was surprised to see many dead wood lice/spiders and flies downstairs following the first treatment in bedrooms. Wear a mask, it really affects the throat and nose. I think maybe some of the negative reviews are expecting results after 1-2 treatments. It’s very effective, but only in conjunction with washing bedding/clothing on a 60 degree wash, use a bed bug mattress cover on all beds (after treatment) and isolate the bed – away from walls with the feet in interceptors/ filled with diatomaceous earth- they have to crawl through it to get to you (you have to be the bait and sleep in the bed- they will want/need to feed) this also helps to monitor if any are still present.

Hope this helps someone! But I would really recommend this product!

Edit end of July: no bites for several months. Highly recommend this product..it worked! Beds still isolated and feet to sofas/beds still sat in interceptors with diatomaceous earth. Also sprinkled diatomaceous earth around perimeter of all rooms. Clothes now back in wardrobes (we had removed all and after washing kept in large plastic sealed bags). Another tip: frequent vacuuming. Will leave earth/interceptors down for at least 18 months. But..no bites for 3months!

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI’m extremely glad I bought this. I noticed a female bedbug crawling on my bed one day and was shocked to find some eggs under my mattress. Thank god I caught it before it became widespread, I quarantined my bedsheets and washed them at 60 degrees, sprayed my mattress sides and put a bedbug lining around it, then sprayed all areas around my bed in every crack I could find.

Long story short, haven’t seen a single bedbug since, this spray solve the issue completely. I use it weekly now just to touch up any areas they could survive in. The smell is a little offputting, you should also wear a facemask when spraying because some wierd stuff gets into your throat and feels like you have some stuff inside when you swallow, but it’s excellent considering the price.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI had dust mites crawling all over my glasses case in my room. They were nowhere else (thank goodness), but it was freaking me out and I couldn’t get rid of them. I decided to use this spray as the price was ridiculous and I didn’t want those mites to spread around the house. It worked! It truly worked. The smell is horrendous and reminds me of jungle formula or even dog flea spray, but I cannot complain as it works.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’ve used this spray and it worked way better than expected, but does require repeated use for any unhatched bugs. I placed an order for two cans last week and the order went missing, not great when it meant I was getting bitten for every night the order was delayed. Amazon provided me with a refund, but I still need the spray, so placed another order with the delivery supposed to turn up the next day and I am still waiting on any updates to say it has even been dispatched.. very unlikely to turn up in time. No fault of the product, just poor suppliers

Golden Review Award: 261 From Our UsersA bit of a long review here, but I wanted to provide some detail in order to perhaps help or advise others that find themselves in the situation we did recently.

Like others here, I was utterly horrified when I finally figured out that it was bed bugs crawling around in the dark on my bed, up to about six per night! I have no idea how they got there, but I’ve researched this and they can get in when you place baggage on your bed. They can even hitch a lift on you from the outside and end up making their home in your bed.

The wife saw a bug on the bed a while back. She got rid of it and thought nothing more of it, after all, we all see them from time to time, care little about exactly what sort of bug they are and simply want to get rid of them.

Then, oddly, a day or two later she noticed another one in more or less the same area, along with some odd brown stains. This was just after the time here in the UK where we had a few days of exceptionally hot weather around July of 2022. I put it down to the weather , so again didn’t think too much of it.

Then, feeling itchy one night and the wife having several red bite marks on her hand, we started to realize we had a problem.

After about three nights of waking up in the middle of the night, hoovering off a half dozen blighters, even a pair under my pillow! We desperately searched for something to deal with them.

First port of call was Amazon, as usual, and sure enough, there was what we needed, bed bug spray. We ordered two cans of the stuff and then set about the extermination operation. In our case, we could figure out where they originated as they only appeared on my side of the bed. After reading a bit about where they hide out during the day, I lifted our mattress about 18 inches on the side of the bed we had the problem, sprayed liberally in the gap, up and down and side to side and let the mattress down. I also went from one end of the side of the divan on my side of the bed to the other, spraying liberally. For good measure, I also sprayed the side of the mattress on the bottom sheet and along the top edge of it in order to kill any unwelcome bug that managed to crawl up onto the side of the bed. As it was my first spraying, I even sprayed beneath the divan in the inch gap between it’s underside and the floor as well as between the wall and the head of the bed.

A few hours later, about 8 of the things had crawled out, died and fell onto the floor by the bed, one or two having died and stuck to the divan on the side of the bed. It was evident they were hiding out between the mattress and divan platform, or so it seems. Wow! this stuff does work and you don’t have to spray the things directly.

That night we only found a tiny juvenile under my pillow, so I sprayed there the next day. Later that same day a few more late comers had emerged and dropped to the floor dead. I lifted the mattress again and gave it another going over, ensuring to spray both the underside of the mattress and divan platform.

Las night was the first night we had zero bugs 🙂 I plan to spray again in two or three days in case eggs had hatched. The instructions mention nothing about killing their eggs, so I’m taking no chances.

Unlike one other reviewer here, I suffered no sticky residue at all. This might be down to the fact I followed the instructions and shook the can vigorously prier to each use. There is a smell left behind, not particularly unpleasant, but you know it’s bug spray as it reminded me of a toned down version of Raid and how that smells. I believe this is supposed to kill dust mites too, but not too sure. The smell lingers for a while, but does fade in time and is worth it to get rid of these things.

So, now I can sleep at night without worry and have plenty spray left should these make a return.

Get this before you invest in professional and expensive treatments. I think the kea is to target the likely area. Or, at least, blanket the bed area with the stuff. Remember to lift the mattress and spray there as they reside in the seams and folds.

    I hope this helps someone.

Golden Review Award: 19 From Our UsersWaking up in the night being bitten by a bug is not very nice but when this turns into a beastly and horrid dermatitis, drastic action is needed as my flaking skin weeps into the mattress.
Used regularly this spray works brilliantly. The trick is to wash and change bed linens weekly and to continue to wash EVERYTHING spraying the bed as you do so in order that the developing embryos are killed.
No electric blankets at night but just before a spray seems to work as it lures the little beasts out in hope of food (YOUR BLOOD-ugh)
Worked splendidly for us and the swelling has almost gone after 3 weeks
On my second can now. I hope there won’t be a third as it works so well…great value for money so there will be no hardship as the insects perish.
100% recommendation from a much less swollen victim.

I brought this for my mum, during lockdown she has problem with skin. So she did some research online and found some people recommended this product for killing bed bugs. As she think is the bed bug caused her skin problem. The first time we use it, the scent is very very strong. So if anyone does have asthma or chronic long disease, I would not recommend to buy this products. Once I spray this the smell doesn’t go away for a few hours. But, since I use the product I couldn’t see if any bed bugs got kill, but my mums problem seems improve a little bit. But I am not sure if is due to her medication she use or because of this.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersHad an infestation of mould mites in our flat likely due to internal damp in walls/piping which hasn’t been sorted by our landlord yet but they are calling pest control (as the mites returned again this year now that it’s cold) It absolutely does kill mold mites on impact and helps prevent them returning. I did go through 5 cans of this over about 4/5 months October ’19 through to March ’20 it was that bad of an infestation.
Washed everything on high heat repeatedly and threw out half my stuff including our rug. Used it on the mattress, sofa, floors, all personal possessions, shoes, clothes, wardrobe, everything. DO NOT use it on any consoles/electrical stuff it will break. Of course try to get the source of the infestation investigated as they are relentless and will keep coming back through cracks/holes in walls etc. Mites have returned this month and I will be stocking up on this to keep them at bay until we can move out lol.
PLEASE NOTE: I do have a bad reaction to this similar to my dust/hay fever/pet hair allergy reactions when using this a lot so wear a mask/don’t breathe it in!

Golden Review Award: 19 From Our UsersDiscovering bed bugs for the first time set my heart into panic – I frantically searched for a spray solution as I read this would help eradicate the problem and eradicate it did! We hoovered the room first (INCLUDING BED FRAME dont forget!), cleaned from top to bottom, ensured that all clothes/sheets/duvets in the room were taken out and washed on 60 degrees + and/or tumble dried. We were lucky enough to have our landlord replace the mattress for us and provide a new one, but after reading up on bed bugs we decided to check the bed frame and discovered they were in the crevices and bolt holes (not many but a few and that’s why we made sure to hoover the bed frame and throw the hoovering bag in the bin outside). Before bringing the new mattress into the room, we sprayed the whole room from the carpet, to the walls (bed bugs climb walls to get away from spray on the ground so don’t forget this!!), skirting boards and finally of course the bed frame – we sprayed in every possible gap/screw hole etc, turned it upside down and sprayed in the legs etc – some recommend to take the frame apart, but we decided to try without this first and it was enough. We left the windows open slightly and door closed for approx 24hrs before going back into the room. Now we are 2 months on from discovering the issue and haven’t had any further problems! We did spray again recently to be safe, best perhaps after 6-8 weeks just to catch any that may be hiding from chemical residue (they can survive for a long time without feeding/biting so could still be there) and also kill any possible bed bug eggs. Great product, we bought 3 cans to be sure and as we knew we would need to spray again after a few weeks. Pretty sure after all this we still have at least a can and a half left so I consider that great value. We will probably continue to spray every 2-3 months for a little while just to avoid the problem ever coming back.
