Had not built one of these airfix kits in over 40 years good way to pass a few evenings the kit itself is well made all parts fitted together well though the box was a bit bashed on arrival

4.0 out of 5 stars good fu

This version of the airfix spitfire in 72nd scale is probably airfixes best, separate mold for all the intakes gives great detail and good detail on the cockpit for the scale. Clear parts are decent not the best but pretty good. All the parts have a good fit and require little filler. However I found the cartograph decals a bit thick and took a few passes of solvent to get the larger ones to conform properly. This might be an issue for beginners. But if you have decal solvents it’s no problem. The only big gripe I have is that on the reference they give for the identifier scheme in the bottom of the aircraft (the black and white) it only shows the wings having this scheme when in reality the whole lower of the aircraft had this scheme including the stabilizers, any refrerence picture shows this and I’m not sure how airfix got this wrong. Overall if you do your research and take time with the decals it’s a brilliant 72nd scale spitfire kit probably the best in this price range. Only having Edward or tamiya models be better out of the box but those kits usually run more than double the price. Can’t really go wrong for the price!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant kit for all levels, low parts for beginners and high detail

Great subject with fantastic molding and super easy instructions great if you want something not to hard but still easy to complete and because it is great spitfire with so many ways to display with accurate and extensive detailing it’s a great way to keep your self-esteem high about building models and at such a great price it’s perfect canvas for different paint schemes like the markings for the Pink version so much flexibility for the price can’t go wrong with airfix

5.0 out of 5 stars Still one of the best 1/72 model kits to date for any modele

I love the model and have built it before a few times but I was disappointed to see that I had no cabin glass peace inside the box when I opened it.

Bought to help grandson with his concentration. He loved it! Stayed focused throughout assembly and soon got the hang of following the instruction sheet. We used a set of artist acrylic paints to paint the kit but now I know he enjoys doing them I will invest in Proper model paints.
The parts fitted together well and we are both very pleased with this kit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Suitable for a beginne

This kit is generally easy to build. The cockpit is a bit fiddly. The parts dont always fit exactly and filler is needed as well as some filing. The colour scheme is quite unusual. Some of the decals are ridiculously small and best left out. However the final result is pleasing.

It’s a fairly well detailed model, but probably smaller than you’d expect it to be. If it’s a ‘first’ model, a better option might be a kit that also includes paint, glue and paintbrush as they extras aren’t cheap if bought separately.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersRead the small print on the back of the box first if you want the correct colour scheme for this registration of aircraft.
The box clearly displays that one wing is black and the other white. Little did I notice the small print first that says that this colour scheme is incorrect. I only notice this as I was applying the decals. Okay not biggy I guess. But a shame after so much work has been put in.

The kit goes together pretty easily but the decals are just too fiddly. On the side of the fuselage. The GR is separate from the RAF circle and the U is separate again.
The U was a pain trying to get right. It was incredibly fragile. As was the tiny 2mm red squares that cover the guns. I gave up on those in the end.

I’ve built the Spitfire before from Airfix and in the 1:72 Scale. That one came with paints, glue and a brush. That was a more enjoyable experience. The large lettering much easier to apply.

I’ve ordered ( and it’s just arrived actually) another one of these kits. Just to put in to practice everything that went wrong on this build

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but not grea

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersVery well-detailed, crisply moulded, with superb quality decals. It is suitable for beginners, yet can be made into a very good model with care. Excellent value, but please remember paints & glue must be purchased separately.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersMy son is 11 and he needed some help assembling it, but really enjoyed the process and painting it. I also got him to research the correct paint patterns, so he found had to do some research work on spitfires on the internet so educational too! It looks fantastic once finished.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersRemember these from childhood and now doing them again with my own kids. Generally good quality, although some parts tend to spring apart and need to be clamped together while the glue sets. Good beginner modelling project.
