I recently tried out the Amtech S1890 Waste Pipe and Drain Unblocker, and I have mixed feelings about it. On the positive side, it did manage to clear the blockage in my drain after a bit of effort. However, I must admit that using this unblocker wasn’t as straightforward as I had hoped.

The design seems a bit tricky to navigate, and it took some trial and error to figure out the best way to use it effectively. Once I got the hang of it, the unblocker did work reasonably well, and I appreciate that it saved me from having to call a plumber.

After 20-25 years debris left in the drain got to slow normal drainage to the point of stopping the thing working. This tool didn’t fix the problem, but it made me feel better..

This helped clear the blocked pipes under sink
First it didn’t fit through the sinkholes so I just undid the first pipe under the sink and worked through there, need to use some strength and keep pushing and pulling and it’ll go round the bends cleared out all the gunk, use gloves as there will be a bit of a mess, now the water runs down as it should.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI don’t think I’ve ever left an Amazon review before but felt this really warranted one. We’ve had a slow draining sink for years, and tried absolutely everything, plungers, every brand of toxic drain unblocking liquid, soda crystals, bicarbonate of soda & white wine vinegar, you name it. Any time the washing machine drained, the sink would fill up to the point we would have to pause it.

Even the letting agents plumber hasn’t had much luck at shifting the blockage, so this was our last resort before calling them up again. And I’m so glad it worked! Managed to undo the pipe and shove the snake as far as it could go, and suddenly a huge wave of gunk and water came pouring out. It took patience, perseverance and multiple attempts, but now the sink drains with no issues and the washing machine never fills ups the sink when draining!

Never been so relieved to have a functioning drain again!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis was fiddly, tricky to get around the u-bends of the pipe but I tried a few times and it eventually did. It pushed a pile of black sludge out into the drain and sink was unblocked. Will buy the longer one too.

Had to drill a hole in a waste pipe to unblock the fat.
This incredible flexible “thing” cleared it almost immediately. It can work it’s way around U bends and stink traps. Even 90 degree bends.

Really great piece of kit. Small enough to negotiate 40mm waste pipe. Got the blockage cleared in no time when all the expensive pour down powder and liquids were useless.

Got it for a blocked drain pipe outside the house. It did help and was useful. It could not unblock the drain pipe unfortunately but this was not the product fault we believe the drain pipe has broken somewhere along the length of the pipe. The Amtech drain cleaner went the full length and worked to that point.
I would say that it is a good product to buy.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI was initially sceptical as to whether this would be up to the job, it was a last ditch attempt to clear a drain blockage on a four inch underground pipe which was causing flooding in my storage unit. It worked perfectly first time and saved me from having to spend a small fortune getting the drain guys in.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersHad a blocked sink and used all the usual methods to try free it up ie plunger, sink ubblocker liquid, hot water and salt ect nothing was working. So gave this a go firstly pushing it down the sink without much luck and then the outside drain pipe, then a big blob came out of pipe followed by a big woosh of water..JOB done ..

I found this effective for the task I bought it for which was clearing a blockage at the bottom of an outside down drainpipe from my gutter. Pushed it in from the top and then turned the handle several times to ‘drill’ through the blockage.
Unfortunately the outside drain was also blocked – it wasn’t effective in clearing that but I think it is a useful product to have handy.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI bought the 1.8m pipe in a half hearted attempt to unblock the sink. The sink was semi blocked with noise coming from the bath drain indicating a sewage pipe block at the junction. I didn’t think this would really work, but I put the pipe down the sink drain corkscrew end first. It took a bit of gentle push and pull to get it past the bends but it worked! I also managed to get it down the bathtub drain down one of the drain cover holes. Did the job brilliant!

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersImpressed by its quality – flexible, springy and strong wire, enough to push into the long pipes in my kitchen which is combined with a washing machine drain pipe, and has least three bends. / My problem was the washing machine drain water leaked, flooded and came up to the sink drain hole. So I poured a bottle of unblocking chemical and five buckets of hot water before using this wire. And I opened the U pipe under the sink. / At the first go, it was still blocked and no sign of getting better. However, after I poured more hot water, I pushed it again into the pipe with more care – kept pushing and pulling carefully, and somehow it worked! / Nothing was collected by the auger, but something must be pushed into the main drainage pipe of the flat. As it is really springy, I cleaned it in a bath tub after use. Now my kitchen drain works good as usual.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI had a blocked kitchen sink waste. I had tried many different chemical drain unblockers even leaving overnight but the plastic waste remained semi blocked so much that the water would take a long time to drain from the sink. I had also removed all the waste pipes under the sink and checked various rodding points as I have access to the pipe runs in our basement. Nothing has worked, even leaving for a week while away it was still blocked somewhere. I had an idea where it was blocked and it looked like I was going to have to cut out the run of plastic waste to remove the problem. I also tried hoes pipes and wire but still nada. Anyway I bought this auger; I managed to enter the rodding point wind it around the tight 90 degree bend below the kitchen and then the auger did hit something hard; twisting it around and pushing it forward cleared the blockage. I still don’t know what it was but I am pleased to say the kitchen sinks are now fine and water runs away as it used to! For me this auger worked a treat, thank you.

Golden Review Award: 26 From Our UsersOK, it’s worth checking what you want this for. We had a blocked toilet (mini sweetcorn cob went down) and rodding the main drain didn’t help because the blockage was in the u-bend. So I bought this and within 10 minutes of it arriving, it worked and my toilet is back to normal, saving me 100s on pumbing fees AND meaning that we have enough toilets for the guests arriving in the next few days — so for me, this would be 5 stars EXCEPT it does scrape the enamel in the toilet bowl (someone else has posted a picture of theirs, that I see now). Ours is white, and now has metallic scratches in it. For us this time, no problem, because it’s an old toilet in a utility. But for a nice bathroom or a new toilet… you might need a sleeve, or gentler rod, or something else maybe.
    Other points…
Pro: cheap, came quickly, totally managed to bend around the u-bend, did the job, saved the day.
Con: scratches enamel, and washing it is gross and fiddly because it’s a spring full of gunk.
Tip: is a bit bendy and whippy so you have to have a firm hand on it to steer it, and pull it out slowly when you’re done if you don’t want it to whip around flinging gunk.
Overall it’s a good bit of kit, and I’ll be keeping it to use in the utility if ever needed again, but if my smart new main family bathroom toilet needs it, I’ll be looking for something less scratchy.
    Good. Four stars.

I bought this to get rid of a blockage in a water butt feed pipe. The length and diameter of this are just about right plus it’s flexible enough to travel down a pipe but dislodge silt and leaves etc. Low cost and basic but it’s a handy tool to have around.

I struggled to push it through multiple elbows at first. After bending the top of it and working on different angles, I was able to unblock the drain in 15 minutes. So, it requires some focus but it does the work.

    Material is sturdy.

The product was strong and sturdy as advertised. It was able to travel the length from an upstairs toilet to where it met the ground drainage.
I was using it push or retrieve a plastic air freshener that got logged somewhere in the wall part of the pipe.
The one extra thing that would have been a great help and that extra star would have been some sort of claw at the end of it or perhaps a bigger hook.
Still, after some twisting about and general thrashing about, the trouble some item was retrieved.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersHad a slow bathroom basin and tried litres of plughole unblocker without success.
So, decided more drastic action was required and bought this drain snake.
Because of the bulbous end I couldn’t just ram it down the plughole so had to open the inspection hole in the bathroom floor and dismantle the flow pipe. Surprisingly little sludge in the pipe so fed the snake through until it came to a stop. Then twisted it clockwise and drew it out again. Nothing much on the end so fed it down again and this time gave it a shove. Seemed to dislodge something and kept going. Put everything back together and ran the tap and no longer blocked. So relieved it worked and I didn’t have the expense of calling out a plumber.
    Well worth the money.
Contrary to some reviews, the version I received has a rotating handle that made it easier to turn. 2 months on it is still as shiny as it was when I first received it, unlike some reviews that said it shows rust.

This was exactly what I needed to clear a drain that was blocked with silt from the garden. It is easy to use and super flexible.

I would have given this a 5 star, if it wasn’t for the packaging. It the heavy duty plastic packaging that I had to use a Stanley knife to open and and once cut, has sharp edges.

I expected it to be bigger, but in reality it is as thin as a pencil, which I guess makes sense as it needs to navigate through a pipe. I used it to unblock a pipe at the back of my kitchen units that had blocked up with washing machine gubbins.. It took a little while, but it did the job.. Be careful that you don’t lose it down the pipe as it can get slippery.. It didn’t actually pick up anything from the pipe (i did twist it), however it did unblock the pipe.. I twisted and shoved it and swished a lot of water, and eventually it cleared the blockage. Result. A real bargain given the price.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersThis is a quality product – well made, and should last well. Buyers need to be aware, however, that the diameter of both the tip and the ‘body’ mean that it can be hard to persuade it to navigate tight bends in pipework (to be clear: absolutely no chance of getting it through plug holes at least in my basins / sinks; and difficulties when trying to feed it in having opened U-bends). As such, I’d suggest better suited to clearing blockages in more ‘straightforward’ pipework / rainwater drainage etc. No regrets at purchase, but wasn’t quite what I needed.
