The quality was brilliant, very good value for money (BUT, you need to buy your own wine) Gave as a family gift – they loved it! Looks good (with bottle inside)

We gave this to my parents for a gift and they loved it. We purchased their favourite wine and locked it inside. They did eventually get it out and loved the concept and the fun of it.

Was good, but quite hard. Lots of riddles and word problems. For one question you needed to know Morse code!

You have to work through 4 sections with 4 cards in each and 3 questions on each card so 48 questions all together, which got a bit same-y. Some more variety would make it better and more enjoyable, especially as they aren’t easy questions. – prepare for an intellectually challenging night.

Also, it would be better if the padlock code wasn’t stuck on the padlock, but maybe somewhere more discrete.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but hard!

My brother complained on his previous visit at the fact we only had red wine in the house. So being an evil sod, I gifted him with this cage with a quality white wine inside on his subsequent visit! He and his partner thought it looked a lot of fun but I don’t think they have solved it yet.

Unlike some reviews, I received the item in perfect condition with all items present. I double-checked that the lock would unlock with the solution code, before I secured the bottle.

    A novel and fun gift!

This is a remarkably clever idea and fun gift. We elected to put a fancy bottle of wine in the cage for a grown-up recipient, but you could just as easily put a tin of hot chocolate or bottle of bath foam in for a teenage puzzle enthusiast (as long at they are no longer or wider than a bottle of wine). The kit comes with a set of “clues” you need to crack in order to decipher the pre-defined code for the padlock, so there isn’t really the option to set your own code (unless you wanted to create your own puzzles and supply your own padlock). The padlock itself comes with a label on with the unlock combination stuck over the dials which you will need to remove before giving to your intended recipient. (We took a photo of the code to avoid any tantrums and disasters).
The only fly in the ointment is the price of the product. At just over 23 at time of purchases, you’ve got to be certain that your intended recipient will love it (or you’ll get your moneys worth if this is intended to be a torturous gift). Add a premium bottle of wine to the mix, and that’s a very expensive present to fall flat!

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersArrived promptly and in perfect condition.

The instructions for the game, including set-up of the lock code, took a bit of reading to work out but weren’t difficult once I understood the game and the fact that the combination obviously has to be the one that the game solution dictates – otherwise the recipient wouldn’t be able to unlock it after solving the game.

I’m really excited to use this as a gift this Xmas and if the recipient finds any answers annoyingly difficult, there are cheat cards available to enable then to skip to the next part of the game.

I wouldn’t recommend this for anyone without patience, with a short attention span, or who doesn’t enjoy general knowledge quizzes, but taking all of that into consideration I think this is a BRILLIANT product and an excellent way to send an otherwise fairly boring gift.

    I love it !!!

First off…. I haven’t actually used this yet as the birthday in question is some months away but first impressions are great! Its a good little cage and the papers/cards that come with it seem good quality! I didn’t realise either that you can use it multiple times which I thought was so good! I can’t wait to give it as a gift and see my boyfriends reaction 🙂

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersGood quality and seems really sturdy. I did have a problem locking the wine bottle in with the padlock (partly due to user error!), but the support guys at Boxer Gifts were really quick at responding to my emails and very helpful. Top notch support if you should need it.
