Coleman Xtreme Cooler, Large Ice Box, PU Full Foam Insulation, Stays Cool for Days, Portable Cool Box; Perfect for Camping, Picnics and Festivals

About Us

It all began when we created the portable, gas-powered lantern that illuminated the first evening football game west of the Mississippi. In WWII, our camping stoves transformed the way soldiers ate in the field. We continued to revolutionize the outdoors with our cooler manufacturing in the 1950s, and in the decades that followed we added tents, sleeping bags, lighting, and more.

After 120 years, Coleman gear is everywhere you are: on the trail, by the lake, at a tailgate, or in the middle of a music festival. We’re always around a place where there are friends, coolers, and campfires. So, grab a tent, fire up a grill, and pull up a chair. The Outside Is Calling.

I liked this as kept my food and drinks nice and chilled up to 3 days. I then bought another as I was impressed.

We bought this for camping trips. Put in a couple of ice packs before we put drinks inside, to cool it down. Then filled it with drinks and more ice packs. It stayed very cool. During our trip we bought a bag of ice to give everything a cold boost and this worked really well too.
It’s a decent size and you can get a lot in it.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersVery happy with my cooler, perfect size to bring my dogs raw food on holidays for either 1 or 2 weeks with us!
Their food stayed frozen while travelling to France, just what I needed!
Sturdy, practical, easy to clean, absolutely perfect and exactly what I needed!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersMy fridge freezer broke down just before Xmas so the cooler saved all my Xmas food as it was 3weeks before I could get a replacement, luckily I had a chest freezer to keep freezing ice packs and bottles of water to keep it cool,an electric cooler would be easier though if you haven’t a freeze

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is probably the best cooler box I have ever owned. My grandfather had a Coleman that I remember from my small child hood. My brother is still using it and my estimate it its been used for 50 years constantly. I expect that this new model I’ve got will last as long, its very robust and on the last camping trip it remained cold for 3/4 days which is a great result. Well done Colman a great product once again.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersWe bought this as we have a camper and needed to save on food costs on our trips. We were pleasantly surprised at how long it kept food cool. With ice blocks our food stayed cool for 3 days easily without topping up the ice. It could easily last long if ice blocks were replaced. Would definitely recommend

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersOn a recent camping trip in warm weather (25C for 2 days dropping to 15C at night), I fully loaded this with about ice blocks and freezer packs and the rest was cold drinks straight from the fridge. After 2 full days there was still a little bit of ice remaining and the drinks were still refreshingly cold. I don’t think this would stretch to 3 days though.

I also thought it could serve as a separate seat but I wouldn’t recommend this as it didn’t feel sturdy enough.

In short – perfect for a weekend away!

The box works for my purpose, shopping frozen goods and getting them home before they defrost
I have a few ice packs that I place in the box for an hour before I use it and the box stays cool

I have one issue – very difficult to open because the closure is stiff and there is very little to grip to get the lid open. I struggle, so the wife hasn’t a chance
i am hoping it loosens up after repeated use

Didn’t actually get to use this product as it had to be returned as it was too big for our use. That said if you need a chill box this big, it’s sturdy, it can be handled by one person with a struggle but better with two. Can’t say how fresh it kept stuff but plenty deep enough to stand up a 4 pint bottle of milk. Then lots of room for food and cool blocks. A weekend getaway of food for 4 would fit in easy.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersAs far as cool boxes go, this is pretty epic. As other reviews point out, put stuff in that is already cold. We froze as much as possible, including pints of semi-skimmed milk. Rather than use those strange plastic things that you freeze and put in the box, we instead froze 12 small bottles of water and put those on top of everything we wanted to keep cold in the box. The box was full. We expected the milk to defrost after a day of travel, but it didn’t so we had to buy fresh. After five days the fresh milk we added to the box, the food, wine and soft drinks remained cold. Most of the frozen water bottles still had ice. I’d think that you could keep stuff cold for at least six days and this box transformed our camping trip.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersTook this on a 3 day camping trip. The weather was hot and sunny for the 3 days, with the cooler left in a hot tent. I cooled the box down the night before the trip, then added the cooled cans and food, including frozen bottles of water, then added 4 cooling blocks on top. At the end of the 3 days, there was still solid blocks of ice in the water and in general the food and drinks were still cold. Needless to say I was very impressed with the cooler.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Super-cooler.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersSo… I have had this box a couple of months now, and I have to say, I am well impressed. Over the years I have had many a cool box for camping/picnics/caravaning, some 12volt and others simply using cool blocks. However…. I have never had one like this, On its first use I put in frozen food, chilled food and cans of coke that had been at room temperature. The lid was not opened again for over 4 hours, as we travelled away with our caravan and left it in the car while we set up. The car by the way was hot inside. When I opened the box everything was as it should be, frozen food still frozen, chilled still chilled and the cans of coke were now chilled perfectly.
I must say the frozen food remained frozen until I defrosted it four days later!!
I am well impressed, and on one occasion I even took ice cubes and they were frozen until used two days later.
It also doubles as a table, a seat or somewhere to put your glass.
    Best cool box ever.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWe bought this in the hope it would keep food and drink chilled over a 3 day camping trip spanning the Summer solstice. Didn’t it just! Fabulous buy. Using 3 x plastic 1 ltr water bottles frozen in our freezer as cool packs, the food was added, all topped with a bag of supermarket ice and off we set. (Ice on top as cool air sinks) We opened the box frequently over a scorching long weekend to find ice cold drink and well chilled foods therein. On our return home, on emptying, ice that had fallen to the bottom was still frozen. The box serviced 2 adults and 3 children, was opened constantly to access can of drink, milk for teas& coffees, as well as the main food supply. A handy plug in the bottom side meant a quick rinse and easy drain the dry Ieft it pristine, ready for the next trip. Sturdy handles on either side make it easy to carry and if, half way to your pitch, you need a blow, you can sit on it while sipping a cold beer taken from the inside!! I would unhesitatingly recommend this product. 5 stars

We have now used this for 2 camping trips. It is excellent. I freeze what I can before going and pack frozen food at one end and refrigerated at the other with ice packs. It keeps food cool for about 4 days with normal opening usage for meals. The meat was still partly frozen after 3 nights. The outside temp was cold at night but upto 19 deg during the day. The capacity is great, holds food for a family of 4 for 4 days. The only draw back is carrying the box when full as it is heavy and no wheels. It is sturdy enough to sit on, the cup holders in the top are handy. If water builds up from things defrosting it is also easy to drain.

I bought this to store cake in when selling a fairs. I had a massive 2 day event on this weekend just gone and everything stayed ice cold for 11 hours!!!! I’m super chuffed with it. We went for the 66l as its was cheaper than the smaller sizes. The top is sturdy(but stiff to open but after few uses I’m sure it will give.) the inside holes 3 medium Tupperware across the bottom and at least 3 to 4 high!!!! With space around the sides for ice packs. Easy to wipe clean and love the valve on the bottom for easy drainage. During the day the kids sat on it and used it as a horse to play on. Everything was safe inside. I’m extremely happy with this item. A great investment.

Golden Review Award: 48 From Our UsersBought this for camping holidays for two adults and two children, 9 & 4. Both kids have severe allergies, so having access to food we know is suitable for them is key especially when shops can be small or distant.
Have used it so far for one trip of 6 days and was very pleased. The cooler is large and needs a lot of ice packs or bags of ice to get it cold initially – if you can load up at home and have some frozen food (sausages, pre-prepped chili, Spag bol, etc.) in that helps. Once chilled it maintains temp well. We used about 10 no-brand freeze packs initially when we left home, then moved to a bag of ice or topping up with four or so ice packs from the campsite each day when they thawed. This kept the temp inside the box cool and we had no problems with food spoiling, including milk/ meat. Butter was also firm so a good indicator of the ambient temp. We had put the majority of the blocks on the bottom so that the food stood on a raised platform. This meant that we could use the bag of ice and allow the cold water to remain in the bottom of the box without soaking food. Some sort of plastic rack or using food storage boxes on the bottom would work in a similar way. Draining water when needed is easy via the valve at the end.

Negatives are that the only way to access the box is via the whole lid being opened and also that the lid needs a positive push down to close.

Build quality is good and the weight of the box alone is fine. I was OK lifting it by myself when full, but others may need two people. That said, it’s unlikely you would buy this box for solo trips.

Fits OK into the back of a SUV/ Estate, but you’d need to check the dimensions carefully for a normal saloon boot.

Golden Review Award: 27 From Our UsersQuality
The cooler seems to be of really good build quality and its is also lightweight for its size.

    Usage
The top lit has got 4 holes to place your drinks(similar to a car cup holder) so it was very convinient to have them on top when the lit was closed.

What amazed me was the capacity of the cooler and the time frame that the ice cubes did nit melt. I tried this cooler on a hot day 45 Celsius from 8:00-17:00 and the drinks were cool until late afternoon.

    Portability
The cooler is a bit bulky for one person to carry so i purchased a foldable trolley to move it around.

Tip: I didn’t want the drinks to be extra cold so i bought a bag of ice and didn’t open the bag until the early afternoon.this helped the drinks remain cool but not cold. Opening the ice bag and throwing some ice in the cooler will drop the temperature significantly and since it has great insulation the drinks will become cold within 30-45 minutes

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersI absolutely love this cool box. It is very large and stores everything we need to take for a week camping. It keeps things cool for a really good amount of time and if you freeze some drinks such as bottles of water or Juice you can pack them in the cooler to defrost slowly which also keeps your food cooler even longer. We take cool blocks and use the camping site freezer to replace for cool blocks every few days but all in all it stays cool fantastically. The box is so sturdy you can use it to sit on with no problem at all. The carry handles are great and despite the fact that when packed this can end up really heavy, they have withstood the weight no problem at all and with one person on each handle it is still so easy to carry. It is also extremely easy to clean and as an added bonus even has places to put a couple of drinks on the lid, which is absolutely invaluable when you’re unloading and unpacking the car at the camp site and have no tables out yet. No worries of drinks getting knocked over and it’s always right there ready to use.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWhat a brilliant cool box. It arrived on time and sufficiently well packaged. Simple instructions for first time use. Boy does it hold a lot of stuff. Easily fits into my car boot but be warned, when it’s full, it’s heavy! I’ve taken this on a travelling holiday to Devon and the food stayed frozen solid for two days, we used lots of ice to help. I put all the frozen food in the bottom and covered with ice – a bit like a fishmonger would! On top we placed ice packs and on top of that drinks which had been cooled in the fridge first and then fresh food. The handles on the sides are sturdy, the drink holes in the top are handy and will take a full sized Latte! We used it as a table on a picnic too. Can’t recommend this product highly enough. Stop dithering and just buy one!

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersWe bought this for a two week camping trip to Cornwall, and wondered how we’d ever managed without it. Before we set off we pre-froze some home-cooked curry, 1 litre bottles of milk, cheese, yoghurts, juice, bacon, burgers and anything else we might need. The night before we set off we cranked the home freezer up full, and left a 2 litre bottle of ice in the cool box to drop the temperature inside it as much as possible overnight.

Last thing before setting off, we filled (and I do mean filled) the Coleman with all kinds of frozen solid goodness. Beware! Unless you’re a champion weight lifter you will need two people to lift this box when it’s full. For the first week of our camping trip we were using it as a freezer, with a separate smaller coolbox as a fridge with some thawing milk from the Coleman to keep it cool.

On about day six the curry started to thaw, and we’d created quite a bit of space in the box. I found a local shop happy to freeze as many bottles of milk as I could buy. So, seven more frozen 1 litre bottles of milk and about four bags of Tesco ice kept things cool for the second week. By this point the box was only a 25% full, so the thawing process was a little quicker. The box became both fridge and freezer on week two, colder things nearer the bottom. If the cold water in the bottom got too much it was easy to drain it out using the bung. It was kept in the van with the windows open an inch – cooler than the tent.

General thoughts on the box – seems well enough made, although not bomb/idiot proof. The handles are fine for lifting the box when full. There are useful can holders and (for some reason) a measuring stick as part of the plastic box lid. The hinges are of the scored plastic type and the lid has a small lip to keep it in place. Maybe these parts will wear with age, but seemed OK to me.

    Recommended.
