Step 1:

You can achieve a good cut without tearing out by marking the line with a knife, not with a pencil. Always saw on the bad side (cut side). If you are unsure, leave some space. If necessary, protruding wood can be planed subsequently flat.

Align the good side upwards so that splinters or torn areas are covered at the bottom. This is particularly important when working on ceiling or floor coverings, such as laminate.

Step 2:

Start cutting at the edge farthest away from you. Hold the saw at an angle of approx. 30° to the surface. Use the thumb nail of your free hand or a remnant piece to position the cut to the bad side. The first stroke should be more like a light pull to create the cut line (notch).

If the saw is correctly in the notch, continue to saw at an angle between 45° and 60° to the surface.

Step 3:

Hold the handle firmly but relaxed. Keep your wrist, elbow and shoulder in line with the saw blade and marked line. You should also keep your head and eyes in line with the cut.

Use the whole length of the saw with constant, non-rushing movements. The speed can be increased by lowering the handle once the blade has slipped half through the material on impact. Lower the handle when pulling. Slow down the pace when the saw leaves the marked line. Correct your standing position and carefully try to restore the mark.

The saw sound shows you the end of the cut. Support the sawn piece of wood so that it does not fall off uncontrollably.

Good product. Replaced existing worn out saw. Surprised it survived being dropped over 6 foot gates onto block paving by delivery driver. I suppose that’s a good test of its strength!

Very impressed by this saw when I used it to cut some joints that needed to be very accurate. It has a good weight to it, cuts well and is easy to control.

This tennan saw is Good price and good quality. If it lasts as long as the Stanly it is replacing
That will be another 40 years and it will see me out. This is a name I have relied on all my life. I have many Stanley products from a simple knife to garden a garden spade . Would recommend .

This is larger than my old tenon saw, which is near retirement after 30yrs, and a bit heavier and longer. The thing is razor sharp, so watch a) your fingers, and b) the rate of cut. It cuts at a rate of knots through the roughest of timber.
Could do with a proper blade protector, instead of the cardboard sleeve, it wouldn`t have cost much to provide it, my other saws have them.

I have the long Fat Max too and like that saw, this tenon saw is extremely sharp and cuts through wood simpler than you will get with any other handsaw. Every cut out I made for joints this saw over-cut and no matter how careful I was. You only need to move the saw a bit and it has cut a cm. If you get the cut perfect, you will have to move the saw carefully otherwise any contact with the wood will cause an over cut. Straight forward cutting like on a mitre board – it doesn’t get any better.
