Like many others, I was replacing a previous mains linked alarm. It was fairly simple as we already had a hole in the ceiling. Even so, the wires terminal required a fair amount of wriggling and jiggling to get the parts to align and lie flush so they would clip together. In short, if you don’t want to make a hole in the ceiling, try a different model. Nearly sent this back but diy dad saved the day!

Bought this as my old one has expired and needed replacing. It was reasonably easy to install, I knocked a star off because I’m sure it said that it would fit the connector for the power from the previous one it didn’t, which meant I had to cut it off and replace it. Having said that it seems good and pleased with the purchase definitely good value for money.

Simple replacement of a previous alarm. Liked the fact that the everything was included for fitting, unlike our previous unit which required a base to be purchased separately. This is a mains powered alarm with battery backup.

Seems like it does the job, hope we don’t have to find out for real!
If fitting yourself you may have to cut a fair bit of plaster out of the ceiling to allow for the plug that fits into the unit. Fairly straightforward to fit if you have a certain amount of electrical installation knowledge, if you don’t, get a professional to fit it!

Thankfully haven’t had to test this yet, however install was very easy in my case as I was replacing a faulty existing mains alarm. If a new install is needed an electrician will be needed.

Very reasonable price, beat any local supplier and delivery was next day.

I was worried about the wiring, but when I read the instructions, it became easy to install, especially for me with limited electrical knowledge. It comes with screws and battery.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersThe advert doesnt show you about the wiring, so here goes:

The item fits flush to the template with a twist motion, the template screws on your ceiling. There is no space within the back of the unit or the template for any wires, so you will need to cut a slightly larger hole in your ceiling and stuff it all up there.

There is a terminal block supplied with 4 sections. Live Neutral, earth and link. The link is attached the to the next alarm in your house linked set. If you are replacing an old linked alarm, you will find 3 wires coming out the ceiling, the earth is not required as the item is completely plastic.

There is a wire supplied which clips onto the fire alarm at one end and has a 4 way terminal block on the other end. So you clip on the wire to the device and then there’s a wire about 6 inches long with terminal block on the end. The terminal block is quite big (looks like 1 amp), and doesn’t easily fit into the hole in your ceiling, so you will need to either cut the block into 4 separate sections or make the hole in the ceiling big enough for the block (about 3 inches in diameter). Make sure there’s enough space in your ceiling to stuff the remaining wires and terminal block. Also, make sure the hole you cut will be covered by the smoke alarm which fitted!

Apart from the this, the rest is easy, just drill 2 holes for the template, connect up and Bob’s your uncle. Remember to disconnect the electricity supply before starting. Luckily I had a separate fuse on my fuse box for smoke alarms, so this was easy.

Oh, there is a battery in the unit (PP3) which is supplied and there in case the power is lost, but unfortunately this will run out after a few years and the unit will start beeping at you to replace, but alas this is regulations so you can’t blame the smoke alarm for this.

First of all, the only reason I went for these was that they were replacing existing wired-in alarms.
No need for WiFi/Smart features so found the same brand as the previous and took the plunge.
Straightforward to install, bar getting the unit to click to the baseplate whilst it pushed the wires up-pretty precarious work at the top of the stairs!
Otherwise all working fine and pleased with them.

Have installed ours in the hallway and landings. It was easy to replace the old detector myself – get an electrician to help if your not completely confident. No false alarms yet.

Easy to install but don’t know how long the battery will last as it’s designed for a power connection.
But so for so good as it’s been up for a month now !

Replacement for different previously installed detectors and didn’t fit onto their separate extended base. A little bit of skill by using base part of previous detectors I managed to fit them and they work well. Shame the battery life is only for 1year but can’t ask for everything. Recommend that customers purchase the extended base if fitting a mains detector as this makes it easier to install.

It does the job, goes off if we have a steamy shower though.
I wouldn’t buy these again due to the fact every so often they beep. I find this very irritating But u can’t switch this function off.

Bought 2 of these but one one faulty so had to be returned, they did replace straight away. No idea how easy to install as had to get an electrician, but they do look quite smart and good value

This product is so easy to install if you are replacing an old unit.
No instructions really needed. Blue wire to blue wire etc. (For replacement only)
I did need to make a small hole into the ceiling for the block connector and excess wiring to go up into the ceiling as the base unit is fitted flush to the ceiling and there is no room between the alarm unit and the base for the wiring.
Once the base fitting is secured and the wires wired up correctly. Simply pop the battery into the unit, clip the plug into place and then push and turn the unit into the base plate.
For a new full installation a qualified electrician is highly recommended as they will need to wire into the consumer unit as it needs its own dedicated line.

I decided to replace two old BTR smoke detectors as one had died and tthe other was over sensitive. These are very simple to fit as they connect to mains supply with 3 wires into existing terminal blocks. The mount is super easy to secure to the roof and the device is easy on the eye with a simple to use test button and LEDs to indicate mains supply and sensitivity. Well worth the money and delivered by Amazon within 24 hours. Highly recommended.

A LITTLE BIT FIGITY TO IPUT IT TOGETHER.
NOT ENOUGH ROOOM BETWEEN THE CELING AND THE UNIT TO PLACE THIS PRODUCT WITH WHICH I WAS REPLACING WITH.
THE OLD ONE CAME WITH AN EXTENTION CIRCULAR BOX TO PUT ALL THE ELECTRICS NEATLY
BATTERY LIFE DONT KNOW IF IT WILL LAST WHAT IT SAYS ON THE TIN

I wasn’t aware when I purchased this that the base plate doesn’t have a function box inside it, that’s an extra item you need to buy. The item itself is fine and once I purchased the added base installation was easy.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersOur ceilings need to be painted so I took the time to replace aged smoke detectors fitted in our new build. Really easy to fit. I purchased the additional BW-PF-T Push-Fit Ceiling Base units (not sold by Amazon) as well and they made the install really simple. Just wire into the base unit and the Fire Angel smoke detector clips in. Toom, about 20 minutes per head taking your time to take the old one off and put the new one back. You need a signal cable between the smoke heads, if you don’t have one they sell a wireless ceiling base to link them all up. Price is great and as smoke detectors go they look the part as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy for a DIY Install

Previous smoke alarm malfunctioned with false alarms. Replaced it with this, but because the old connector was not a 100% perfect fit for this, it had to be removed and replaced with the (included) connector for this, but that involved switching off fuses and doing a bit of wiring, which took longer than I had anticipated. To be fair, the previous alarm is to blame just as much as this one for the connectors being an almost fit.

These are great smoke alarms, look nice, work well as you would expect..

Only slight downside is to instal on the mains you need a deep hole in the ceiling to do so and mount it. We managed to do this but the existing ones just wired in nicely.

It’s very well made and I expect it to last, would be 5 stars if it was a simple install, in our case it was a little more time consuming that I would of liked!

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersVery easy to install.

For those worrying about the cable connection this is really not a problem.
Most installs in a ceiling will have a hole where the cable comes through, usually you would put a connector block through here for the connections to the mains.
This is what I did and a small hole is big enough for the cable connector to go through and sit in there fine.

Good value for money, I installed 3 of them and have them linked together with the link connection.

    Would buy again.
