A friend of mine turned me onto this. I figured a hammer (or pry bar) — both of which I own — were sufficient, so why do I need another tool. Well, it’s always about having the right tool. And this purpose-built nail remover is pretty awesome. I have used it a ton and have not encountered any nail — regardless of what’s it in — that this did not remove with ease. It’s all about having the right tool….if you remove lots of nails, this is that tool.

I’m renovating a deck, and removing over 1000 nails. Every once in a while, I run into a nail that the normal nail puller can’t get outbecause of the nail had break off, or simply requires more leverage than what the normal 12″ nail port can provide. This tool hasn’t failed yet. You have to get a little bit of the nail head or shaft exposed before you can use it, so it will not replace the normal nail puller. But once you’ve got something to grab onto, it just doesn’t fail.

Years ago I bought a nail-pulling tool called The Extractor (the yellow one). When it recently went missing, I tried to get another one, but it apparently has been discontinued. I found two similar tools on Amazon and ordered this one (the red one) partly because of the Crescent brand. I used it today to pull some nails and staples through some baseboards that I wanted to reuse. It did the job, but in the dim light, I would occasionally miss getting a grip on the nail, because sometimes I stuck the nail through the slot in the middle instead of into the pliers grip. My original tool was easier to use–especially in dim light– because it had only one slot. I’ll keep using the new tool, but if the old one turns up, I will definitely go back.

I bought this because I had a whole room full of nails sticking out of studs from removing drywall. This tool made short work of getting the nails out, and did not break off the nails, either. Recommended.

Had one of these for years, but after an hour of looking, just ordered another. Needed in a few days, and got next day delivery for around $20. Best tool I’ve found for pulling air nailer finish nails out of walls, and right through the back of trim.

This is the 3rd pair that I have bought because after folks see how useful they are, they somehow fenagle mine! We do a lot of “decontruction” work in kitchen and bath remodels and the brad nails from crown moldings and such can be an injury waiting to happen. Found these replicas to be just as good as the original ones that a volunteer brought out.

This is a great tool. I think it would be a perfect tool if the handles were 2 or 3 inches longer. I’ve pulled out about a million 3″ galvanized headless casing nails from a deck. There were only a handful this thing couldn’t get.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersThese nail pullers have been a big help for removing the spiral nails and staples from a number of pallets for me. I don’t understand the negative reviews however. Yeah there is some effort needed to remove the nails from a pallet. That’s because they aren’t supposed to be removed. The fact that you have to put in some effort isn’t the pullers fault. Also the fact that you have to have something for them to grab onto, like the nail being slightly proud of the boards also should be expected. They aren’t magical nail drawing pliers that you just wave at the nails. Also they are a specialty tool. They aren’t pliers, or vice grips or the aforementioned magic wand, they’re nail pullers and as such they are working exactly as they are supposed to. Doing a pretty fair job of it too.

Large tool, and that’s the only negative thing.

Beautifully designed for nail removal if nail is not buried.
    1) Teeth never slip on nail. Great tooth design
    2) Leverage is huge with length of handles to easily remove the most stubborn nails
    3) Didn’t notice until it was in my hands, but the levering action when pulling a nail pulls the grip tighter around the nail as you remove it, even if the nail has no head!
    4) I like seeing how the tooth design is such that

Bonus) When the jaws are open to the position of gripping the shank of a framing nail, all the teeth touch the nail. That kind of attention to detail makes me respect chanellock for their fantastic design here!

I am busting up pallets and these are the best thing for pulling nails. They are not designed to get hold of heads that are flush to the wood, you need a different tool for that, but if you can get hold of the nail do not struggle like one of our Canadian friends did on his posted video, just cut a piece of 22mm copper pipe about 2 feet long and slide it over the forward handle and the extra leverage and the ease of removal will amaze you. Update 10 pallets later, I am not so impressed now as we all know ring nails are hard to remove as the heads often break off making a crow bar useless, the nails are quite hard steel and the jaws on my pliers are wearing and slipping a bit now, shame the jaws dont have a harder steel or better heat treatment, maybe Knippex shoud manufacture something like these

I am remodeling a home and removing Over 1500′ of red oak trim. I got these to pull the 10p finish nails through the back side so as not to mar the finished side. The product was a little stiff out of the box as could be expected but after 10 minutes of use I was able to hold and manipulate with one hand and hold the board down with the other. 10p and 16p finish nails take a little force to pull out of a dense wood like oak, smaller brads came right out. When pulling the same nails from a softer batch of pine trim the nails came out much easier. I could use these to pull nails from particleboard baseboards with no problem without damaging the face

I remove the spacers in pallets to use in cutting boards. The nails are extremely difficult to remove when the spacers are made of hardwood. I am after hardwood spacers. Hardwood grabs the sides of the spiral nails quite well. Most times I literally dig the nails out of the spacers with a wood chisel. Using the chisel in turn destroys at least an inch of hardwood. I bought this less than a week ago and every nail I have tried to extract from hardwood has come out of the hardwood without destroying it. I am very happy with this product. I absolutely recommend this product. I think Crescent should consider making this product with a “vise grip”. It might be even easier to use.

I really like how the teeth grab on to the broken nail. I haven’t had a single nail that this tool hasn’t been able to extract. Ring nails, twisted nails, rusted nails. This tool worked every single time. I only wish the handles were a bit longer for increased leverage

I wish I’d seen this years ago. It’s quick and efficient, saves loads of time. I haven’t had a nail yet that I can’t get out. I use a crowbar first and then this for the tricky/stripped ones.

The item is well made a little bit heavy and could do with a spring opener so you could use with one hand apart from that dose what it says

Absolutely brilliant tool from cresent tools. I use this to get out the big rusty nails that hold pallets together which I break up for kindling. Tried various other ways but this little gem does the job better than anything.

Bought these for (manually) dismantling pallets and pulling out the nails. Previously used standard nail puller pliers. The extra leverage on these makes a huge difference and speeded up the whole process with a lot less strain on the wrist tendons. Wish I’d found them sooner. Highly recommended

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersAbsolutely brilliant tool for removing nail and even screws. Well worth the price and wait as shipped from the USA. Nothing else like it available here in the UK for some reason! Im recycling old timber and did a lot of research to find the ultimate tool and this is it….simple and bullet proof build. One thing I like is that when you pull a nail it doesn’t shoot out and disappear it stays gripped between the jaws for easy disposal. Expect them to last a lifetime!!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersIt took a VERY long time to arrive but when it did, it does what it says on the packet BUT you must be strong enough to use it too. It’s a good tool and would buy it again but not if in a hurry.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis product arrived very quickly. Tried it out immediately on some well-sunk rusty ring nails (with missing heads) in some pallets I have. They came out easily despite having resisted all previous attempts with various other tools. Great quality great tool, highly recommended.

Great tool. Easily pulled nails from the oak bearers on pallets. The design is such that the more effort one has to apply to extract the nail the tighter the jaws grip. Have bought two pairs (one for each location I work at) and my son-out-law has bought some as well 🙂

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersMakes pulling things out much easier though you do need a bit more of the nail to grip than I had anticipated. I put a small piece of cut in half pipe under the lever to protect the surface I’m pulling out of.
