Original product and correct fit for replacement on my hose reel
I could not get the fitting at garden centres or locations where it is sold. Finally, I found the right product on Amazon and can now use the hose reel.
Good replacement for side of reel
For some odd reason hose lock decided to not use a standard thread on the fittings on the side of their reels. This is a good replacement for the side Where the small inlet hose fits to).
No good for normal tap fittings.
Needed replacing. And this worked.
Can’t remember how long we’ve had the hose reel on the wall. Also can’t remember how long the outlet doohickey has leaked. My fault leaving hoses hanging off it at odd angles in all weathers rather than putting them away (it is a hose reel after all). So I bought this, replaced the bit, and it doesn’t leak. Sorted. Couldn’t ask for me. Well, you ask me to put the hose away more often…
Cured leak on old reel
It did exactly what it intended for, replacing the original inlet connector on a 10+ years old Hozelock reel. The old one was worn and the O-ring was cracked, maybe just renewing the O-ring would have done it, but sourcing and fitting the right size would have been a faff.
Only gave 4 stars as it is expensive for what it is, and I don’t know what the design justification is for a different thread size to tap connectors, other than creating a separate spare part which due to low volumes can command a higher price
If like us, you have an older Hozelock reel you may well be experiencing annoying leaks from the inlet connection. In some cases the input pipe can disconnect with water going everywhere!
Unfortunately, the connector that screws to the reel wears as the reel spins. Initially, it’s ok to just replace the o-ring but eventually the whole connector needs replacing. For a small piece of plastic this is not cheap – but it’s much less expensive that a new reel!
The screw thread is 5/8 of an inch which is reasonably tricky to find. There are a couple of alternatives if you search carefully. However, IMHO, it’s easier just to order this one from Amazon!
Just unscrew the old connector and replace it with the new one. Don’t over tighten as it can split. I find a quick spray with silicon lube keeps things working smoothly. I replace the o-ring annually….
BTW. If you have a garden tap over ~40 years old with an external thread, you may find that the “common or garden” screw-on hose connectors don’t fit – the 1/2 inch ones being too small and the 3/4 inch ones too big. This connector having 5/8 inch thread may well resolve your issues!
Small part, big savings.
Was going to replace hose trolly due to excessive leaking, didn’t know this little part unscrews and can be replaced for under a fiver, took about 2 seconds to replace, saved me over 30 and no more leaking.
It fits and works
Replaced the replaced the connector on my hose reel which is now some 15 years old and the connector was well worn after this time. Now can connect hose without it jumping off when pressure added.
Great fix
Decided to buy a new hose reel as mine had leaked for the last 12 months, but saw this at the top of the page so gave it a try instead.
Bingo ! … instant Fix for no money at all ……. just a shame the minimum purchase was 2 but spare may come in handy one day.
Well connected.
My old reel connector had degraded in the sun and wouldn’t stay connected when the water pressure was applied. I didn’t realise that there is a different thread on the reels to a water tap. I do now and this fitted my hozelock cart perfecty and the water hoses stay connected under pressure even when the drum is rotated
Transformational!
My old hose extension was an absolute pain – the hose kept jumping off resulting in much frustration and wet legs.
Now, it’s sorted.
Five minutes and the extension works a treat – no more wet legs and no more frustration (in the garden, anyway).
Nothing else will fit Hozelock reels
Ridiculously expensive for what it is, but as Hozelock choose to use a non-standard fitting on their hose reels they have you over a barrel if you need to replace it. Does the job perfectly. Why don’t they use standard threaded tap fittings, though?
For Hozelock Reels
Having bought a couple of wrong fittings to replace my broken one on my Hozelock reel I tried this one. It seems the thread on the reel is just slightly different to the thread used on outdoor taps. Anyway, this works well.
It’s one of those things which you must have and I feel Hozelock exploited the cost. I imagine it costs pennies to make!
Cured hose reel leak. Brilliant.
Great original part. Completely resolved a leak from the hose reel connector to the tap hose when the water supply was turned off. Discovered the old original one didn’t have a rubber washer inside, whereas the new one does. For 3.79 I’m happy. Coupled with a new Draper Expert 68464 7-Pattern Spray Gun with Brass Connector B0001KA0HM we’re finally leak free. No more wet fet when watering the garden!
This part of the hose reel assembly is prone to wear, especially if unwinding and re-winding the hose on a regular basis and eventually the water supply hose will fly off. Our local DIY stores and garden centres don’t stock this particular spare so to be able to obtain one quickly that is a perfect fit is grea
Complete Replacement ? No Need !!
A perfect `FIX` for my trusty Hozelock reel . When the old inlet adaptor dropped off I thought ` Here we go – have to buy a complete new set – reel ,hose , connectors , etc. etc. NOT SO !! 3 ish fixed the problem in days .
Cheers , M . Robinso
Good product. Fast delivery. There seems to be some questions/comments about the size and fit. Hopefully I’m able to attach a few photos of the new item and what it replaced to help. Note that in the photos the old adaptor is (obviously) the scruffy/mangled/scratched/faded one with a load of PTFE tape around it.
It’s got about a 21mm (approximately) internal diameter (measured with digital calipers – super handy to have for things like this). See photos including the final one with the item installed on the old reel (my reel is pretty old, but not 1970s as some reviewers still have!)
