The true-to-colour scanning and printing are far superior to that of my RICOH laser printer using the same original. Printing & copying is pretty quick too. One negative is that the A3 paper tray extends beyond the body on the printer so dust (and cat hairs) can get inside the thing (to be fair this is one horizontal surface She who must be obeyed hasn’t frequented yet). Set-up was a real trial and the tiny 1.5″ x 2″ control screen doesn’t help. Needless to say there was no manual as it, and everything else in life, was all ‘on line’. Not only that but the HP website could see the machine for some set-up functions but not others. I have now got two instances of this machine in ‘Printers’ but can only print to one of them as the other is always ‘Off-line’ even when all the lights are on (but no-one is at home). I hope I learn to live with it and not need an A3 print in a real hurry.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is a good printer. The quality of printing is good. The HP cartridges are expensive. At some point an “up date” will allow it to block it from using any cartridges made by others than HP. If you do not update the machine, it may not be able to read the latest printing software and thus it renders the machine useless. This is like a washing machine preventing you from using your own choice of detergent and is therefore unfair.

Loading A3 paper could have been made easier, s you have to extend the lower cassette. Consider buying a printer which allows you to top-up ink wells instead.

The printer itself is great, straightforward to set up and use but the reason I knocked a star off is it only came with a European power lead. Not much good for the UK. But I purchased a UK lead from Amazon and was up and running the next day. The only other thing to note is it won’t take heavy weight card stock I tried 300gsm but no luck. Changed the card to a lighter weight around 180gsm and that works great.

Quite heavy. The box suggests two people to unpack it. I managed that on my own and to carry up stairs but I wouldn’t recommend anyone trying it. It was well packed and the set-up instructions were quite adequate. You have to download advanced instructions from HP if you need them. It handles paper, both photo and plain, very well. The photo printing is fine for amateur home use but could fall short if you are entering A3 size exhibition or competition entries but at the price one should not be surprised at that. It’s good for the user it’s aimed at.

I needed a printer and scanner capable of A3 for my history study. This does just that and I am able to print from all my devices using the WiFi access. But because it is an A3 printer it is rather big although my study is big enough to accommodate it. The only downside, if indeed it is one, is when you load A3 paper the paper drawer does not shut and about 10 cms stick out. But aside from that this is a good printer.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersLike many, i don’t really know much about printers, all the numbers bla bla actually mean.. I needed to update my home office for a printer that would print up to A3 sheets, the need for scanning and like the idea that i can also fax with it. Into my photography so wanted a printer that could handle both jobs and actually print some of my more decent shots on A4 photo paper.

Set up was very straight forward pretty much being plug and play, simple menu to navigate through, system set couldn’t be any easier, just select your WIFI and enter your password.
Print speed is really quick and quiet, print is really sharp and professional looking.
Photos quality is awesome, printed lots of photos up to A4, colour depth and sharpness again make them look like they’ve been professionally printed.
I can print directly from my iPhone, iPad regardless if i’m home or not.

I don’t know what else i could add to this printer in order to make it any better, if you have the space and the need, grab one i can’t see why you’d be disappointed.

Excellent printer and scanner but the HP scanning software fails to save scanned files to a Mac as .pdfs , and HP support can’t solve the problem. They save fine as JPEG’s. It’s not a major issue since the scanner can be driven from inside Apple’s Preview package and the files then save as .pdfs. But it is annoying.

This is a serious piece of office kit and much larger than I expected (so didn’t quite fit where my old A3 printer went as that was more a desk size one) I like that both paper sizes can be added. Seems easy to connect and use. Quality was good.
This is a good small office printer IMHO even though price was cheaper than other home printers.
Just measure the size, because it did take me by surprise.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis All-in-One printer is one of the leaders in the field of A3 printers. It does A4 as well of course and also various other paper sizes. It isn’t classed as a photo printer, but the print quality of photo’s is excellent on photo paper, though a bit grainy looking on normal paper. Automatic double sided printing and copying up to A3 which is great as some wide format printers don’t automatically copy double sided. It doesn’t say it on the tin and I haven’t heard of it on any professional reviews about this product, but it actually has a quiet mode which you can set for specific times, so if you do a lot of printing overnight when everyone is asleep you can do it quietly, although the quiet mode doesn’t work for photo printing. Incidentally, it isn’t particularly loud anyway considering the speed it’s capable of printing at. Did I mention it also prints borderless? Well it does! It’s also worth noting that this printer does not qualify for HP’s instant ink subscription so you’re going to have to pay the full price for ink replacement. This printer can also somehow ‘Mark’ the ink cartridges so that they cannot be used in another printer (even the exact same printer model) which is an excellent feature if you have two or three of these printers in different office departments and are fed up of other departments swapping their empties with your full cartridges. An excellent printer for the price.

It’s massive… Bigger than what I thought. Make sure you have one more person to help with lifting this printer.

It has two paper docks that can be set for A4 and A3. It scans A3 too which is a bonus. It does fit on a normal desk but it’s bulky obviously.

It was very hard to set up. Instructions are very poor so I called hp customer service who kindly helped me to download an app on my phone to print. It does work but hit and miss.

I bought it for my work office and it struggles to pick up business WiFi. Make sure the printer and computer or phone are sharing the same WiFi. I may try ethernet cable soon to see if it’s better.

Overall it’s ok because there aren’t many options like this around but disappointing for HP to create something so complicated.

I’ll be trying the copier and scanning function soon.

Golden Review Award: 20 From Our UsersPurchased through Amazon as delivery from HP was slower and I was in a rush. It’s marginally lower cost directly from HP.
This is a very large printer compared to A4 format ones. It should be noted that the dimensions given assume that tray 2 has A4 paper in it. If you add A3 paper then tray 2 sticks out an additional 7cm.
HP interface is pretty much standard across all models. It’s okay but is a little slow to load.
Quality and speed of prints is okay.
Scan quality is okay but higher resolutions are only available if you save in .pdf (which is a bit odd).
Paper handling could be better. The printer struggles to pick up heavy or glossy papers. On the A4 tray anything over 150gsm will be a problem. Similar issues occur when using heavier A3 papers. End result is you end up faffing around a lot to get the paper to feed. If encountering this with A4 try feeding just one sheet and bowing the paper slightly using the tray paper end stop.
On A3 feeding is just as tricky with heavy papers and here I found it best to have a low gsm paper below the higher quality paper then, as the sheet is grabbed by the printer, physically hold the lower low gsm sheet back using your fingers (the lower tray sticks out and you can leave the flap up to allow access).
Overall an okay printer but it does have its limitations with regards to paper handling.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI purchased the printer to replace our ageing J4680 which had finally given up the ghost.

Its a big printer, but is fast, and I like the large scanning area, which means I can get a lot more expense receipts into one scan. Its fast, and its also been easy to connect to all our devices, including tablets and mobile phones.

One thing we suffered from was the printer refused to accept the cartridge initially, this seems to be a problem reported by other people fortunately. You have to loosen the actual printer head, and re seat it. As either in transit or in the factory, it shift and ceases to work properly. Not a difficult thing to fix. But there’s nothing about this in the initial set up for the printer. I only knew about this, as I’d seen it in someone else’s review, and needed to find the instructions to fix the problem online. Would be good if they added this procedure to the initial set up manual, as I can guarantee someones going to assume the printer is actual DOA.

Golden Review Award: 37 From Our UsersThe printer is large we expected that.. But what we didn’t expect was for the second tray containing A3 paper to stick out a good 2 inches from the unit. The setup was fairly easy and for the tricky bits there are some you tube videos to help. From office programs you can choose the size of your paper and which tray to use. From my iPad if I choose A3 paper it defaults to the a4 tray. So Hp after all of your years of experience you haven’t sent a programme line which says if A3 size is chosen go to tray 2! I got round this by manually changing the default tray on the unit in order to print. A photo in A3 but it is a long winded way of doing things. There is also no separate tray for envelopes and smaller photo paper, now I had this in a printer over ten years ago, it will take more time adjusting trays and sizes of paper and envelopes being changed in trays than I had expected from an office machine. And it should show the A3 tray sticking out of the printer, with A3 paper iA bit of an omission on the part of Hp. Other than that it prints fine.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersVery large and heavy. Ridiculously good value, and you seem to get a normal set if ink cartridges not the ‘starter set’ that I know Canon gives (but to be honest haven’t printed enough to know yet). Of course the price is subsidised – it must costs HP more than twice this price to make the device. You pay (and HP make their money) from the ink refills which must cost them pence, but cost you 85 for a set (it’ll even be around 50 for re-manufactured ones, but I’ve not had good experience with those).

I wanted this for A3 printing. It has two trays both of which take A4 or A3. Does scanning and also photocopiying. I connected using only WiFi to my network, as I have no LAN connection in the room, but it works fine. Can print from iPad perfectly also, which is a bonus. Quality on plain paper is excellent.

I’ve used HP printers for many years and this one is the easiest to set up yet. In the past HP printers have always needed a call to the help line to get them running, even the Office Jet Pro 8615 which I still have needed a bit of setting up to get the wifi connection working. I bought the 7740 as I needed a A3 printer which could scan A3 as well and the set up was easy. Turn it on, put in the inks, enter your wifi password and you’re set. Prints from my Mac, Windows laptop and phone with no problems.
If I was to be picky, I would say that the 8615 has a very slightly better print quality on standard settings but I haven’t tried it on photo quality settings yet.
