This is the second one of these I’ve brought can’t fault them they are really easy to set up with the app nice and small and connected to Alexa straight away now don’t have to get out of bed to turn my lamp of
I can't recommend these enough
I first bought the Mini Smart Plug 3 years ago, and have since bought 3 more because they are SO easy to install and SO easy to use via the app or via Alexa. I use them for lamps inside, water features and outside lights as well as for scheduling the charging of my car. I’ve also moved home twice, including one international move, and each time the installation to new networks is a breeze. (even for a 50+ year old with no teenage kids to help). I cannot recommend them enough and the price makes me smile too! 🙂
Niced to see the Kasa controlled plugs agai
Always found TP links Kasa plugs to work faultlessly, we have 8 of the larger type and they havent really missed a beat in the last 5 or so years.
Then they started to do ones with the Tapo app and was worried that they light with draw support for the Kasa one, although it seems you can port the Kasa plus into the Tapo app.
Suddenly the Kasa ones became available again so a grabbed another two of the mini ones and they seem to work just as well as the larger style.
This takes our Kasa smart plug count to 10 now, they control (through alexa) loads of stuff, from our uplighters to digital picture frames. Easy to set up and just work and keep working, there has been the odd time when you ask Alexa to turn one on or off and she pauses and says its not responded but on the 2nd atempt it does work, but this is very very rare.
Haven't failed me ye
Very simple and easy to use WiFi plug sockets. The Kasa app allows me to control my (now 3 in total) units. You can turn off and on wirelessly, set timers to go on and off and set a schedule. For instance during winter I had 2 set to come on periodically during the night in 2 of the kids bedrooms, where we had some small electric heaters placed to give them a bit more heat during the night. They havent caused me a problem yet. Highly recommended.
My third purchase
This is the third Kasa plug that I have bought and all work very well and are easily controlled via the app. Particularly useful at Christmas time allowing me to easily turn on Christmas tree lights and the like. Much easier that crawling around under the tree to reach the plug to turn them on manually.
I regard myself as pretty “Tech savvy”, to the point of describing myself as a Geek, but 3 hours to set up a smart plug is pretty bad.
The response to an app code took so long to arrive that my attempt to log in had timed out so I had to get another sent.
Then the plug wouldn’t connect so that I could register it. They only work on 2.4 not 5 WiFi so I had to disable my router’s 5ghz channel and at end of the 3 hours, I’d resorted to an old iPad to get the job done.
As my wife likes to say: “What a faff!”
Brilliant bit of ki
Bought these plugs to be able to switch lights on and off when not at home. Wasn’t sure if I would be able to but took a chance and yes I can turn them on or off from miles away as long as they remain connected to WiFi. When out of range of my WiFi it works perfectly using my own data on my phone. Excellent range of timers on the downloaded app or simply turn on or off using same. Would certainly recommend
Currently they are working well OFF-LINE....
Use HomeSeer (other home automation systems etc.) for home automation and these can be controlled locally using a (free! – SHOCK!) plugin. I HATE internet requirements and so this fits my use-case and I’m not locked in to some manufacturers ecosphere and left at their whim – with luck. (Matter etc. notwithstanding, it’ll never take off, every time someone tries to make a simple system ALL the big corps come along and poo on it….)
So, I’m using a system that can cope with variety and works with most things, albeit sometimes with some work.
They just work with Alexa.
This is my third one and it is used to switch the outside Xmas tree lights. Although it is supposed to be for indoor use only it works fine outside as long as you protect it from the rain. The others are used inside to switch feature lights.
Excellent, but one little complai
Does what I need and shows the trends I’m interested in. Sadly, you can’t reset the data with a button that I can find. As I understand it, you have to remove the plug from the app and re-add it. A reset button is easy, surely!?
Good
So far so good. Easy to setup. I’ve plugged my kettle into it as it’s 13A. Works as a timer so the kettle is boiling as I’m walking down the stairs in the morning (only works for kettles that stay switched on with the power off). Not blown ye
Great Wi-Fi, smart plug
Great smart plug. Ideal to use purchased three of these and they all work brilliantly on my iPhone. Connect through the TP Link Kasa app and easy to operate couple of minutes to set up and great to be able to control different devices through your phone lights extension lead in lamp, easy to switch on and off three phone
Easy to set up. Looks attractive
I have now purchased several of these smart plugs to operate lights and other devices in my home. They are very easy to set up through an app on my smart phone. They are small enough to still be able to turn off the mains switch if needed to. Looking forward to using them for the Christmas Tree lights!
Works perfectly when linked to Deco system
Bought this item to have our living room lights on a timer whilst we were on holiday.
I use a TP-Link Deco full mesh Wi-Fi system at home and this linked in perfectly.
I can set timers and control the lights through my existing Deco app, so didnt need to download or install anything else.
I dont use any voice assistants so cant comment how it works through these but works fine via the Deco app manually turning off and on or with a timer and schedule set.
Brilliant addition to our other smart plugs
This plug was purchased to control a light in the living room. It was very easy to install and worked with Alexa straight away. I was impressed with how quickly we got it working with our other devices.
Good stuff
I have a few of these now, there are cheaper ones on the market but I haven’t had a single issue with mine, load the App away you go, integration with Alexa simple too
good produc
I needed a simple power switch that I could control via Alexa, and this does it very well. Installation did not progress with my iPhone, but it was simple and straightforward with my iPad. Got it all working within minutes. I use a script to turn on for about 30 seconds and then off- the product timer does not seem to support such a use.
Works and is a good price
Easy to set up using the wizard in the Kasa app and then just shows up in Alexa so you can add it to your automation stuff. Probably the easiest one I have found to set up so far, doesn’t get hot and is a good price if you look around to see what offers are on when you buy.
Reliable, Good App
I tried a couple of different smart lightbulbs, but sadly although the bulbs may be ok the app and connectivity was poor.
The Kasa range have been reliable and easy to set up and connect, mine are colour changing and we love the ability to instantly add a different ambience, great for parties etc.
The Kasa brand seems now to be difficult to source, not sure why this is, would like to buy more but they are now either not available or are at a ridiculous price.
Excellent plug
Already had a few of the larger plugs and bought this during a recent offer. Very pleased with it especially the size as it now means I don’t lose the adjacent socket.
Small and easy to use - very Alexa friendly
Definitely my smart plug of choice – they are nice and small – easy to set up in the Kasa app – REALLY reliable (I have a few set up at my parents house for them, which are all on my account so I can change all the timings remotely for them (without the pain of having to go round and sort manual ones, or explain to my dad how to do it!)
Some great security features like away time. Links up to Alexa easily and they really have been an amazing addition to the smart home functionality.
Definitely recommend!
Great product and easy to set up
I bought a couple of generic smart plugs to use with an Alexa device but they were a nightmare to set up and pair with Alexa.
While trying to source more info to get the generic smart plugs to work properly, I came across a review for these TP-Link/Kasa smart plug slim. They reviewed really well so I decided to buy a couple, they were half price, bonus. Set-up on the Kasa app was relatively straight forward and they were up and running quickly. Scheduled on/off times for a couple of lamps to test, and able to control remotely, away from home. Pairing with Alexa was also straight forward.
I was so impressed that I bought another 3 while they were still on offer. I wish I had found these sooner as I wasted so much time with the previous smart plugs.
I would highly recommend these smart plugs.
Easy to install
I had previously used one of these and control it via my phone. I tried another make but could not connect it to wifi. I bought another Kasa smart plug and it linked quickly and easily.
The app is relatively easy to use (they have just brought in an update so I’m still getting used to it). I would buy this brand again.
Works perfectly well.
Works perfectly well as described by the manufacturer. I have number of these around the house they are ideal for switching appliances on/off remotely often when I am away from home or just need to use the timer option.
Works well
Use this to switch on my 3D printer. WiFi signal is fine through several walls about 8m away from the router. Knocked a star off because you have to sign up to an app to configure it, which is annoying.
Its a brilliant way of managing your household items, but they can be expensive
I use mine for lights and find the sunset/sunrise settings a ‘must’. They are work off the APP and combined with Alexa can be used fro group settings. Downside is that they have responded to their popularity by raising their price significantly which is a shame…
Working fine, no power usage
Extension lead is working fine and don’t have any issues. However, I was under impression that I’ll be able to monitor a power usage on each port, the same as I can do in standalone TP link smart plug, but it doesn’t have that option which is a real shame.
That’s why I’m giving it 4 stars.
Good devices
I started with one, but now I have about 3 or 4 devices, I mainly used for laps and one with an electric radiator in my summer house which I use as my office. I use the timer function as I can program the day and time when the device turns on or off, for instance my radiator is only ON Monday to Friday mornings.
I use these behind my av rack to enable restarting of my router / tv / virgin box without pulling anything forward and disturbing everything. I also use them to power my bedroom tv on command (rather than use standby) and on my living room standard lamps to schedule on off routines for security. Also outside in my studio I use the original smart plug by kasa hs100 to start an (1kw) electric heater when I am going to be using the studio later. They are very reliable and I find them very easy to set up. (youtube is your friend)
Great bulbs at a great price
Super easy to set up with the app and link to Alexa. Light is on the warmer side which I like and the dimming capability really helps on creating ambience to corners of my room. The companion app is slick and easy to use but I mostly just you voice controls through my Echo speaker.
Fantastic timer plug
We have 5 around the house switching lights on and off at various times. An excellent timer which you can control from your phone wherever you are. Love this product and highly recommend
Why didn't I purchase these sooner.
I purchased this to be able to turn my aviary lights on and off from anywhere in the world on my phone. The lights are on a timer and come on the correct time daily, it’s easily changed too as well as you can just press a button and they’re off.
I found it easy to set up and managed to set up within seconds. I was so pleased I purchased another.
The app they use says 3rd party purchases which made me worry if I was going to be charged to use my plug but seems it’s for more CCTV recordings.
I can’t comment about Alexa etc because I don’t use it. Just the mobile app.
Excellent idea and easy to set up.
Very useful to switch on the electric blanket from warm downstairs so ready when I hit the icy upstairs! Very pleased with this – I had initially wondered about what I would use such a thing!
Excellent, the best one I've found.
Very well made, and the Kasa app is really good.
I tried another brand that had 6 outlets but the app was poorly designed and long-winded to use, and not in sync with the hardware itself….
Fortunately, the TP-Link doesn’t have these issues….. TP-Link just needs to come up with a 6 outlet version for the UK!
I now have two of these, and along with the less good 6 outlets device, I use them to switch devices off overnight, and control room lights for security reasons.
Works well resetting Virgin router once a week
Great little product that keeps virgin router working by restarting it in the early morning every Sunday. Stores schedule in the device rather than being reliant on the internet network. Has been reliable and running for about a month now.
OK Bu
I purchased this to use with my Alexa and Hive stuff that works with Alexa, Apple Home etc. What they dont tell you here , and you have to dig deep into the Kasa technical site to find, is that they wont integrate with Apple home, and it is not the plan for them to do so. They work fine with Alexa and their own software.
Does what you expect and more
Really easy to set up from the box, following the app instructions. Does what you need it to (remotely controls plugs from the app) plus more (can schedule things to switch on at certain times etc from the app). Overall, really impressed. You can also assign the different plugs and name them in the app to avoid confusion with switching the wrong appliances. It’s useful to switch on lights when not at home or switch them off when you’re in bed. It would’ve been nice for the USB ports to be remotely controlled too but maybe that’s too much to ask for.
Good, bu
Good product but it does not last very long. After about a year of use, the relay inside the device can get stuck in active state. To get the device back to normal operation, you need to unplug the device, shake it and plug it back. Or you can get a new one. Not ideal.
I recently purchased the TP-Link Kasa WiFi Power Strip with 3 outlets and 2 USB ports, and I must say, I am thoroughly impressed with its performance! This power strip has exceeded my expectations in every way possible, and I would give it a 5-star review without hesitation.
Firstly, the setup process was incredibly easy and straightforward. I opened the Kasa app on my phone and followed the step-by-step instructions to connect the power strip to my WiFi network. Within minutes, I had full control over all the outlets and USB ports on the power strip.
The build quality of this power strip is great. The strip itself is made of high-quality materials, and the plugs and sockets feel very sturdy and secure. I love the compact design of the strip, which makes it easy to fit in small spaces and keeps my desk or countertop looking neat and tidy.
The three outlets and two USB ports are incredibly useful, allowing me to power and charge multiple devices at once. The USB ports provide fast charging for my phone and other devices, and the outlets can handle my connected devices with ease. I also appreciate the individual on/off buttons for each outlet, which allow me to conserve energy and reduce standby power consumption.
Finally, the smart features of this power strip are a real game-changer. With the Kasa app, I can set schedules, create scenes, and even control the power strip with my voice using Alexa. I can turn off all my devices with just one tap, and I can also monitor energy usage to help reduce my energy bills.
Overall, I would highly recommend the TP-Link Kasa WiFi Power Strip to anyone looking for a high-quality, reliable, and versatile power strip. This product has truly exceeded my expectations, and I am sure it will exceed yours too!
UPDATE Had the metal body of the valve replaced and the TP Link TRV is doing a great job of controlling the temperature as the valve actually can close… I just leave it set to 22 degrees.
ORIGINAL As has been mentioned before, these do not integrate with the control of the boiler. These limit the temperature of the room according to your setting, however, depending on how the system is balanced, the insulation of the room and how quickly it takes to heat rooms there is the option to get a higher temperature than that of the room stat.
Our wireless smart stat is in the coldest and largest room, it could do with with an additional or larger radiator. The radiator is fully open and runs hot but barely raises the room temperature, therefore the smart thermostat is set to 19.5 degrees. All of the other rooms have TRV and are capable of heating way above 19.5 due to the difference between the above variables and a bountiful supply of circulating hot water.
Our living room is warm enough most of the day without heating, therefore a TRV is useful to limit the room to 22 degrees whilst the coolest with the smart stat struggles to get to 19.5.
Unfortunately, regardless of TRV head I have tried in the lounge, there is a few degrees of overshooting the desired 22, I’m suspecting there’s a fault with the actual metal valve or the lockshield valve.
This electronic TRV is dynamic in it’s activation which is working better at controlling the temperature than the standard versions. It’s quite quiet too. The app allows 6 times zones or leave it on a manual static temperature.
The app is quite straightforward. I would like a boost function to allow a brief time for the valve to fully open as another brand version does.
I agree with others that these are ideal for zoning off rooms for unwanted hours of the day. I will probably buy another few for the bedrooms.
The Kasa Smart Thermostat Radiator Valve Starter Kit arrived next day, it consists of a small “hub” , (for the TRV network) which links with your Wi-Fi router and a TRV. Initially I had a problem as I could not “pair” the Kasa Hub to my router via the Kasa App on my phone. After many abortive attempts I phoned Tp-Link Support just after 5pm hoping to get a call at least logged before the end of the working day. I was most impressed with the attitude of the support staff I was in contact with. The agent would just not let go and we were still in touch at 10pm, In the end I decided to uninstall the App and reload it from the Google Store. Having reinstalled the App the installation of the hub and the TRV went like a dream! All up and running in seconds!
The valve and the App are very easy to use and provides endless options to set up heating programmes on individual radiators. One thing you have to work out is the “Temperature Offset” on each valve. This is because the valve reads the temperature in its immediate vicinity, which is a very hot radiator! and you want to set a temperature for the room. Depending on the location of the radiator, behind a sofa or out in the open will give different results. This takes a bit of trial and error.
A second TRV arrived the next day and that was a seamless experience, as was the integration with Alexa! I would like to get some more Kasa Smart TVRs for other rooms in the house, but unfortunately they have old Drayton TVRs fitted to them and although the Kasa valves come with 3 different adaptors, none of them are suitable, so I have to try and find a source of suitable adaptors before proceeding!
I also have a number of Tapo Mini Smart Wi-Fi Sockets which also work very well and I hope that Tp-Link will at some stage produce a boiler controller to integrate with their valves.
Does as advertised. Using it mostly to timer heating blanket as I want to fall asleep without having to worry about the electricity bills! 30 min timer does the job. Nice clean app on phone easy to instal and navigate.
A bit pricey for what it offers, as other brands do the same product , similar rather, with half the price. Sometimes you can get it on discount. If you do, go for it, but I would never pay 55pounds for 2.
It’s bulky and sticks out a lot. Doesnt cover the second outlet, but it’s very obvious and can’t be missed.
Mine is next to my bed, sticks out too much, I have kicked it in my sleep once or twice.
However, would purchase again.
Been moving more towards Kasa plugs for automation as they seem to be a lot less of a faff to setup than other types of home automation equipment. They also seem to be stable and available at all times. Definitely they do not seem to regularly fall off the WiFi and then require 30 minutes of trial and error to get them back on it. Got a number of plugs and lights before these but found I was running out of sockets to use them in. Saw these as a way around that limitation. They feel really well built and were really easy to set up. Literally out of the box and working in the app within 5 minutes without the drama I always get with other makes. I bought 2 so now I can control 6 power sockets from my phone. Alexa integration works OK too but I tend not to use Alexa that much so I leave that area to other reviewers. All I can say is that I asked Alexa to turn them on and it did. I think tplink have a good product here. I will be buying more.
My family has loads of tplink kasa plugs, cameras and lightbulbs and by and large they all work well – but there are a few niggles
1) Sometimes they are difficult to set up – because the phone can’t lock onto the devices local wifi. Sometimes Android phones fail and iphones then work easily; sometimes it’s the other way round.
2) Once set up, the smart plugs and cameras lose wifi signal very, very rarely. With the bulbs, positioning can be more of a problem – even when the wifi transitter is close.
and finally
3) tp link is clearly now pushing its Tapo range at the expense of Kasa (look at prices and availability) which, for us at least is a shame.
But overall, if you can set them up ok, position them carefully, and not worry too much about the future, they are pretty good.
Small footprint, they work seamlessly
They are compact and as they are about the same width as a normal plug, they fit alongside other plugs in a 4 / 6 way extension adapter.
Android App easy to install and set up. A minor faff to set up initially but once you’ve done one, any others are fairly quick.
Schedule was easy to set up, and its great to be able to set a lamp to come on at sunset and turn off at sunrise.
Its reassuring to be able to view their status on the app. I also like the manual override button on the side – for example if one has a bedroom light plugged in that isn’t due to come on until later but you want it on now, instead of having to spin up the app and switch on from there, a quick press of the button on the side does the job.
I haven’t integrated them with the Alexa app yet so can’t comment on that.
Having had mechanical timer switches in the past, its great to have silence and the ability to vary the schedule.
I bought this as a replacement for a smart plug that lasted for just over a year, this new plug was bought in October, now just over 6 weeks has stopped working as well.
The problem isn’t a connection issue with alexa but more of a mechanical problem inside the plug itself, the light on the plug will turn off and on as instructed but the physical action of the plug switching on and off has stopped working.
Edit 21-11-22
I got in contact with tplink and they responded within 2 days, they advised the following which worked for me, if you have a similar problem it may work for, I would advise getting in touch with tplink first as your problem may be different.
Step 1:Unplug the smart device from the power outlet, shake it several times on hand and plug it back in the power outlet.
Step 2:Press and hold the switch button(for 10 seconds) until the LED flashes amber rapidly to factory reset the plug, then reconfigure it on App.
Step 3:Change a different power socket for the smart plug.
Step 4:Connectanother appliance of small power to the Smart Plug.
Many people looking at these will be comparing them with other popular devices and wondering which to buy.
You’ll have probably narrowed it down to between this and another popular brand; Meross
The Meross are the best value so stop your searching.
The TP Link Kasa are closest overall but they’re more expensive and in my opinion difficult to justify.
Build quality is similar between the Meross and the TP Link Kasa plugs but the latter are larger. Don’t get me wrong both are very compact but the Meross is around 1cm shorter than the Kasa plugs. See photo.
The app quality is similar and both are easy to use and add devices to.
The Kasa app is slightly ‘better’ in the way routines are presented. Meross has a ‘routines’ tab which shows the routines for all Meross devices on one (scrollable) screen. This is somewhat cumbersome when you have several devices. The Kasa app shows the routines only once you’ve clicked on a set device which is neater. However, this has resulted in me switching plugs on/off accidentally. So I’d say it’s ‘horses for courses’ as to which is better.
The Kasa app has an away mode which results in the plugs switching on and off randomly. This will make it look like a house is occupied when on holiday etc if connected to a lamp. It’s a nice feature but can be replicated easily enough by setting routines with Meross if so desired.
I have both the mini plugs and the older, larger Meross devices. Both offer the same functionality. I do think the older plugs ‘cling’ to their wifi slightly better – so consider these if you have sketchy wifi coverage – but otherwise recommend the mini’s.
There are other brands of smart plugs out there and I have tried several:
*SONOFF – great in-line switches but poor plugs
* BG – average all round
* Eve – iPhone only really.
Overall nothing really matches the Meross plugs. Kasa are a close second.
Edit;
I reached out to Meross support (I wanted the countdown timer to have the ability to switch on [not just off]). I received a courteous reply within a few hours. (Kasa don’t offer this functionality either FYI).
I originally purchased the Meross smart plugs, including extensions and individual sockets. By their very nature such sockets are often used in places that are hard to reach so when mine failed with the first month of ownership I decided to return them, whilst I still could. I knew I could delete them all from the app and re-install, but as this was the fourth time in a month I’d had an issue I decided enough was enough and returned them. I have bought this one socket to try and so far, so good. I have been running this socket for a week now, without any issues. I paid 19 for this socket, around 5.50 more than I paid for two Meross individual smart sockets, so they aren’t cheap. But with that, and the TP Link name, is, hopefully, an assurance of quality. I intend to purchase several of these smart sockets, and also several of the extension leads but that will have to be over a period of time due to costs. Unlike the Meross, I can’t afford to purchase them all in one go.
The socket itself is small and very neat. It will not obscure the switch or overhang the next socket in an extension. The software used to operate it is superb, and the options are endless. Use it as a timer, ie turn off charging a smartphone so as not to overcharge it, a lamp in a child’s bedroom etc. Or use it, as I use this one, to turn my home office ready for when I start work, and turn it off at the end of the day. Such settings can always be over ridden, so a change in routine is no problem. You can set a lamp to turn on at sunset, or half an before or after sunset if you prefer. Set the same lamp to turn on at the time you will be getting up and go off an hour after sunrise. The possibilities really are endless.
As mentioned, I intend to turn my house into a smart home and so, if this proves reliable, as I am sure it will, I will purchase several of these and several of the extension leads. In a month or so, in particular if I have any issues, I will update this review, but from me it’s five stars.
Please note, I don’t have this set up to work with Alexa as I talk to people, not inanimate objects. The features on the app are more than sufficient to operate the socket.
