Logitech MK540 Advanced Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Combo for Windows
This is the Third Logitech Wireless Keyboard and Mouse combo that I have purchased over the years. This is a slight upgrade on my previous model but has a similar feel which I like. The Keyboard has a soft low noise response when pressing the keys and the mouse is ergonomically shaped to feel good in your hand. The fact that I keep coming back to Logitech is because I think it is a good all round product which is perfect for both work and leisure.
Good Workhorse
I’ve never had a bad product from Logitech and I like the brand. I wanted a keyboard/mouse combo with USB connection because that’s what I always have and I’m a writer who spends long days at the keyboard. This is good kit for the price and my only reservation is with the mouse, which is perhaps too basic. Still, I’m not complaining. The set is good value for money.
Silent keyboard and decent mouse
The keyboard is excellent for me. The typing is rerally quiet and the keypress is of a medium depth with not much force required. In fact I find I sometimes press 2 keys instead of 1 as they are easy to press but this is not a big problem and lies in my accuracy more than anything.
The mouse is a regular mouse, not too small and not too large and ambidextrous.
The box arrived open, not even taped shut but thankfully the dongle was inserted in the box hinge and both mouse and keyboard inside.
Works Well But PC Doesn't Recognise It Fully
Packaging suggests it should have the ‘unifying receiver’ but my Windows PC doesn’t recognise and the unifying software doesn’t detect it either. Does connect the supplied dongle and good feel to the keyboard; not sure if the absence of said receiver is an issue or not really
Robust keyboard and mouse for work
I have one of these in my home office and now have bought a 2nd one for use in my office – very reliable and robust. Good for all day, everyday use and good battery life. Would really recommend this set if you intend to use it a lot and want something comfortable and reliable.
A nice full size keyboard.
Purchased to replace an older logitech wired keyboard that had given many years of service (and still working okay). Not using the bundled mouse as I already have a M510 ergonomic mouse, and the new keyboard paired up to the existing Nano transmitter without issues. Which is just what I wanted: only one USB port used for both.
The new keyboard is quick to respond, with no perceptible lag, and works fine at the UFEI/BIOS level boot level as well. Hope it lasts.
I really like the shape of the mouse. Very comfortable.
The keyboard is quite big, compared to other keyboards I was considering, but I don’t mind it too much.
The key strokes are reasonably quiet, but I think they could have made them quieter.
The small switch above the number keypad turns the keyboard on or off, so this is good to save battery.
An annoying thing I’ve noticed is that the caps lock light is on the caps lock button, instead of the normal place above the number keypad. This means that I have to move my left hand to see if caps lock is in or not when typing.
The box was delivered without the wireless receiver however Amazon (reluctantly) reimbursed me to purchase one.
This is actually a replacement for an old keyboard purchased way back in 2013, that was missing a few letters and symbols. With yet others fading away. The fact that there is a lack of wires connected to the keyboard and the mouse, is in my opinion a very good thing. I also like the ergonomic features provided for the keyboard in particular. As to the low rating for gaming and sleep mode. I prefer to play games on my PS4, not my PC. I’ve never seen the need to use sleep mode either. When not in use my PC is always shut down.
Either it’s me or the keyboard doesn’t make full contact with the switches as I never had so many problems with a 20 year old ps2 unit as I do with this one and changed to this one from a Microsoft 2000 kit as I didn’t like the mouse – still probably getting used to it.
Well made
Sturdy keyboard & mouse. Got this at the begining of the covid lock down. Still working from home and is used daily, battery life is excellent, only replaced the mouse battery a few times & the keyboard are the original
This is a nice keyboard, lovely feel to the keys. I would have liked the mouse to have a bit more weight but it works ok. Please note the dongle that plugs into your PC is in the mouse, simply open the battery cover and it’s next to the battery.
Reliable, convenient and easy
I bought this wireless keyboard, mouse combi at the start of the UK Covid lockdown to work from home. Although I had a pretty good wired keyboard and a Bluetooth mouse already, I wanted the flexibility of a wireless keyboard for an extended period of wfh. For the price paid, this has been a pretty ok experience so far. With the provided wireless receiver, it is very simple to setup and start using them. I like the mouse more than the keyboard here. The mouse is comfortable to hold, quiet (ish), quick and accurate.
Some of the other reviewers have also mentioned this; the rounded edges of the keys on the keyboard feel weird and do not make it easy to feel the edge of the keys. I didn’t think it would matter so much, but having used the keyboard every day for more than 2 months, it is not a comfortable feeling when typing. I thought I would get used to it soon and won’t notice it, but it is immediately obvious when I use a different keyboard. Hence the 4 stars. It is a pretty quiet keyboard though and I have seen no issues with performance.
The battery life on both the mouse and keyboard is impressive as I am still using the supplied batteries and I also do not switch them off for days on end (not even overnight).
I would recommend this set, if you are not fussed about the round edge keys.
Decent k/b mouse combo with a couple of minor issues
I’m not a heavy keyboard user but get along just fine with this. Quite lightweight with reasonable and quiet key action. Definitely better than using a laptop keyboard.
The mouse is what I mainly use, and again, this is a good lightweight device with decent button clicks and reasonably quiet action.
The two issues I have are as follows.
1. The scroll wheel click doesn’t always register and occasionally needs a firm prod. I use this a lot (web browsing mainly) and it’s quite irritating but just about bearable.
2. The wireless dongle isn’t so powerful and becomes erractic affecting cursor control to varying degrees of accuracy. My setup has my PC hidden behind my TV with me using the devices about 4 feet away and it occasionally gets jumpy. In a standard office desk situation I guess it will be fine, but beware of thinking this will be a reliable wireless device for controlling a machine at distance, say in a living room media centre machine scenario, especially with obstacles in the way.
As long as you know you will be using these devices in such a way so as to avoid these issues then it is a great keyboard/mouse combo.
I had tried using my friends earlier version being the MK545 and found that to be a nice size. I am not a touch typist and have to use a few fingers. For me the MK545 keys were a bit hard to depress and clunky when pressing. I also did not use the side buttons on the mouse. This MK540 looked to fit me better and it does. The keys are not as harsh and they are quieter. The mouse fits me, but it is close to being too big as in wide and I have large hands. However I had been using a Kensington Pro-Fit mouse and it is narrower and to me more comfortable. However it is early days with the MK540 mouse so I reckon I’ll get used to it.
My main gripe is with Amazon’s listing. New combos were out of stock so I looked at the used like new – costing a pound or two less BUT without a warranty. This is how Amazon describes a like new item: “A “like new” item sold on Amazon Warehouse is in perfect condition, but due to the condition of the packaging, it does not meet Amazon.co.uk standards for new product. Returned items with minor packaging defects are classified as “like new.””
I have returned items in the past after a day or so and I assumed I’d get one like that with a damaged/opened box. I would have preferred a new one, but I needed one quickly so I bought this from Amazon Warehouse. When it arrived the keyboard had “stuff” in the edge seams and a faint mark on the palm rest. The mouse had been used enough to show scratches on all the glide pads and to have had bits of the Logi logo worn off – see picture (if I can load it as I don’t see that option). The mouse also had “stuff” in the seams. One of the batteries in the keyboard was a cheapy and not the Duracell ones supplied with a new combo set, which are marked not to sold separately. Look it seems to work ok, but this item is definitely “used” and not “like new”.
UPDATE: 23.4.20 – just pulled a piece of blue tissue paper from under the keys – maybe when the “Like new” keyboard was cleaned. Not impressed Amazo
