A bit of a gimmick/ gadget, but we love it anyway!
This spoon was a bit of a gimmick choice – we don’t really need it, but we WANT it!

We’ve used a few times – more for the thrill/ gadgetness – and it works great! Obviously you cannot weigh large amounts – the bowl is not much bigger than what I used to call a “Trifle spoon” – a large serving spoon… and even though this spoon can weigh up to 500g, there’s no way I can think you’d fit 500g of product in it.

It’s very easy to use, easy to clean, and comes in some nice packaging.

There’s a lot of great stuff to say, but it really is just a gimmick – you’re much better off with some decent digital scales!

Overall – will we use it? Yes – occasionally. It’s a great gift for the “person who has everything” and likes to cook – and at just 11.99 at the time of review, it’s within most stocking filler budgets.

A Pretty Accurate & Time Saving Digital Measuring Spoo
The Mafiti Electronic Digital Measuring Spoon is supplied in a branded and quite presentable cardboard box measuring260 x 78 x 26mm. Inside the box is a plastic tray in which the spoon sits and is protected during shipping, a CR2032 battery and a user manual. The spoon itself is 240mm long and at its widest point 58mm which is the width of the spoon bowl — which measures 80mm in length and is approximately 20mm deep, the handle is 155mm in length. The handle top contains the digital display which is green when on with black readings and is nice and bright — so should be good for most people to see easily, there are 3 buttons, the Mode – selects the weighing unit, a hold button to lock in a stable measurement and a On/Off/Tare button — the On/Off are self explanatory, Tare helps if you need to weigh something on top of what’s already been weighed from a fresh zero start. The only thing I was a little concerned about was its robustness as the spoon bowl does feel like it is of a brittle type of plastic — time will tell.

After installing the battery in the rear compartment of the handle and testing the spoons measuring capability I was pleasantly surprised — it seems to weigh loads placed on it just a little heavier, for example 0.5g over some very expensive digital scales that I have calibrated with standard weights. To me this means I can trust these without having to get the main scales out — especially when making things from simpler recipes.

So is it worth the 11.99 being asked for the spoon, well if you are a gadget man like me, yes indeed it is, it makes it easier to pluck these off the utensil hanging rail and measure something in record time. I hope the plastics wear well because I find it useful and moreover, I like it!

Easy to set up and use.
    Summary
Works well and to within 10% of my trusted kitchen scale so all good.

    Set up
Insert the battery (CR2032) into the handle of the device and then it is ready for use. There are controls for ‘Hold’ to freeze the display at the current reading, On/Off and Mode – which changes the scale from Imperial to Metric measurements.

    Using the device
I measured approximately 10g (10ml) of water into a glass and then poured it into the spoon for comparison – see images. The result on the spoon was very good – both holding it in my hand and placing onto the worktop. I found the measurement on the display very stable, despite moving around with it in my hand. I use it for measuring lower weights, e.g. powdered spices and yeast, as I think it has a more accurate amount than a little measuring spoon.

    Value for money
At the time of writing, there is no price available so TBC, but I would expect to pay around 10 for this item.

Great little gadget and genuinely useful too!
I wasn’t sure if this would work very well, but actually, it’s not only very accurate, it is not a gimmick and has real application in the kitchen. Simply, it allows you to measure out smaller ingredients really quickly without having to put them in a bowl or similar on a separate set of scales. The spoon end is washable (not the handle though) so you can quickly detach it and rinse it clean after use. A great little kitchen gadget that is genuinely useful too.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersGreat for small quantities
This weighing spoon is simple to use, neat and I like the easy-to-read screen and the fact it has a hole in the handle so you can hang it up! The bowl of the spoon detaches from the scale by pulling it off, and it can then be washed.

I thought I would try measuring out my cereal this morning. I put the spoon on a flat surface while I filled it with granola. As you can see from the photos, I was able to fill it with about half a serving, so if I was wanting to be accurate with my portions I would just fill the spoon and weigh it twice over.

I think this spoon might be useful if you’re doing small portions such as for a mug cake. Otherwise, it’s great for portion control Although the spoon will weigh up to 500g, you wouldn’t get that much of an everyday ingredient such as flour on it, so it won’t be replacing my normal scales, but I am sure it will come in handy anyway.

Convenient mini scale for measuring small amounts
This digital measuring spoon is so useful to have in the kitchen for weighing and measuring small amounts and transferring them straight into the dish you’re making.

It measures in grams (g), ounces (oz) and weirdly grains (gn) carat (ct) and teraliter (tl), so it’s perfect for measuring gunpowder and diamonds as well as your recipe ingredients.

It uses one CR2032 battery (included), the scale is easy to use and easy to read and appears to be accurate (as long as it’s placed on a flat surface and not held in your hand).

For 11.99 (at the time of review), I think it’s reasonable considering the convenience of the spoon shaped scale, although you could get a set of digital scales for around the same price.

    Good for smaller measures
I was quite interested to see how this would work, sometime I have small amounts to measure and pulling out the big scale feels like overkill.
So the handle shows the weight and has the 3 control buttons.
The scoop is does what would expect and holds whatever it is you are measure.
Now you will need to keep the handle on a flat base to weigh anything, holding can work but holding on a flat surface works best.
The scoop is about the size of a large kitchen spoon, and while the scale can handle 500g there is no way I am getting 500g baking ingredients on it.
Anything over 200-250g and it will get very messy.

The nice thing is once done the scoop can be pulled off to be washed while you wipe down the handle.

So this adds a certain level of convenience, I can weigh and pour with ease and that is a nice plus.

    Accurate for small measures
It takes a battery, which is provided and is easy enough to fit. It is very light. It should be treated with care as I do not think it will prove robust. It is clearly a spoon not to be washed in water. You clean it with a damp cloth. It is very accurate. It is really good for measuring small amounts of spices or such like. It works well and I like it.

Great idea but a bit temperamental
I love the idea of this spoon as it’s so much easier to weigh small amounts without having to use a dish on a set of scales.

It has 3 settings… Grams, ounces and carots ( if you have gold or diamonds to weigh;)
I am a jewer and I wouldn’t actually trust this to give me an accurate reading of gems and precious metals though. I have a far more precise tool for that but the spoon is useful for other measuring.

Only problem I’m finding is it seems very temperamental on the digital measurement.

When I hold the spoon still it starts at 0 but if I move my hand slightly the digital measurement starts to fluctuate up and down giving me an incorrect reading.
So…. Make sure you have the spoon placed on a flat surface. Don’t hold it in your hand.

I’ve taken a star off because I would have expected it to read accurately when in hand but it has to be on a flat surface. Otherwise I’d have given a 5 *

    Fab!*
The digital measuring spoon arrives boxed and includes 1 x cell battery and instructions

The spoon takes 1 x cell battery which is conveniently included. You simply need to insert it into the back of the handle
The spoon has a green backlit digital screen that shows the weight of the content placed in the spoon
It’s really light and portable. The handle has a hole for hanging the spoon up on a wrack when not in use
The spoon head is detatchable so that you can give it a good clean
The spoon can measure grams, ounces, grains, and carats
It has the tare function to measure more accurately
It’s totally simple to use. The listing states to use a scoop to pour into the spoon, but you can just as easily scoop out food contents from the package then sit the spoon down to measure too.
The measurements appear to be perfectly accurate and functions really well.

I love the idea of an electric measuring spoon. A lot more easier and convenient than scales. They’re also easier to store away when not in use. Perfect.
