Had a mil light come on with an intermittent overheating light on a Honda Jazz, I assumed it was one of the 2 ect sensors, Purchased this to verify which one was faulty and an error code P0117 came up which pointed to ect sensor number 1,which is at the back of the engine block.

Bought the part (which was dearer than the reader) and fitted……all good.
A very handy little gadget to have in your tool arsenal!

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThis is a generic scanner that reads generic engine codes. Most cars will have additional manufacturer-specific engine codes that this, and other generic scanners, will not read.

Also note that this will not read codes other than engine codes, eg it will not read airbag codes.

This is not a fault with the scanner, but you may want to buy a scanner that is specifically made for your vehicle instead, depending on what you want to use it for.

After dropping a heavy hint, my daughter bought me one of these for my birthday, as I’d had intermittent spurious messages from the EMS. Needless to say, I had resolved the problem a few day before I received the tool. A few days later howver, I got a call from my daughter telling me her 2006 1.4 16V Fiat Stilo had flashed up a EMS error. Having already used the unit on my 2004 Mk4 Golf 1.9 TDI to see if it worked ok, and clear down an uncleared fault codes, I then used it on the Stilo. Operation was simple, and it gave me 2 error code – Air Con Coolant low, which we already knew, and that cooling system temperature was low. I had worked out that the latter was likely cause as the heater was npt performing well, the temperature gauge sat at the low end and the coolant pipes never got as hot as I would expect. Both the thermostat and temperature sensor were easy and cheap to replace, so as far as I am concerned the tool has already earned its keep. Instructions are easy to understand, error code are reported with a fault description.
Previous experience with with both small and main dealer garages providing “computerised” diagnostics, is that they often believe 100% what is reported and replace a whole unit which is either an incorrect diagnosis or a simple remove, dismantle, clean and replace job, so an investment in one of these diagnostic tools along with the use of good old fashioned common-sense can save you a small fortune.

I really like this Multi-Function OBD2 code reader. It’s super simple to use and unlike another one I have the screen is super bright and easy to read. The menu system is easy to use and has an inbuilt library of faults that you can use to try and find out the issue. I’ve payed a garage 100 once to find a fault on my car and pretty much all they did was plug one of these in! I’ll no longer be ripped off by these crooks.
Get yourself one of these and save a fortune.

We wanted to test this not because diagnosing faults can help us to fix them ourselves but rather to be able to diagnose ourselves before servive etc to try and avoid unnecessary and expensive mechanic bills.

We have had a bad mechanics/garage experience before where we thought we were over charged but couldnt prove anything. This is a good option to be able to state the expected fault and let the mechanics know that you do know what you’re talking about even though you might not actually know much.

EAsy to use even for novice and car enthusiasts will likely get more out of this than the normal car user by keeping track of car and performance etc.

Useful tool – perhaps worth a quarterly or more regular check of your car(s).

ODB 2 Scanner and reader with the benefit of being able to cancel fault codes.

It’s well built but light and is easy to use. The instruction booklet is fairly easy to follow too.

There is very little more I can say about it, if you are looking for an OBD 2 scanner and fault code eraser then this might be something you’d like to consider. Ideal if you are trying to work out a fault and isolate it, plus you can go to the garage ready primed if they are going to do the work for you. Being informed can give you a better deal.

Should be in everyones bottom draw.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersThis is a very useful tool to have at home. Compared to many of the cheaper (and even some more expensive versions) it has many features that show it to be in a class of its own.

First thing I did was read the instructions as from past experience I’ve got this wrong and the device hasn’t been able to read the car properly. Fortunately, this one was easy, simply plug in, turn engine on and the screen shows it connecting to the ODB port on the car. The cable is of a good length so I found being in the drivers’ seat, with the ODB port on the right in the footwell, I was still able to sit comfortably and read the screen.

The screen is a good size and is full colour unlike many others on the market. The menus are easy to navigate, with simple up and down choices, with select and back buttons. I was hoping (in a good way) that my car would have some faults that it would need to clear. Unfortunately (or fortunately) this was wasn’t the case, but I was still able to do a clear on the log which was seamless. I monitored a few datasets to see how the live monitoring function performed. I was pleasantly surprised that it could do this in graph form, with multiple selections. As such, I was able to leave the car running and monitoring the o2 and fuel flows, and the graph just kept going flawlessly. The graphs were very responsive to points where the accelerator was pressed or where the fan kicks in and temperature changes.

There’s a variety of sub-menus, which I will no doubt use when it brings up error codes in the future; it states that it has the lookup library, which is very handy for when you do get error codes and it can save you a lot of time googling the issue. The ability to check the original VIN and registration code of the car is a neat feature, good for if you’re buying a car and want to check the authenticity of the engine control module.

Overall, a very good handy tool. It would have been good to have it come in a carry bag, as these devices usually end up in the boot of the car and can be subject to damage. However, I would imagine it can take a fair bit of abuse as the housing it pretty secure and the buttons (whilst cute) are quite firm. That aside, this wouldn’t deter me from buying another one in the future if required and this would certainly be top of the list, hopefully to save myself some expensive garage fees.

A useful plug & play OBD2 unit that should work with most modern cars after 2004. Multiple languages, clear LCD display, and a simple user interface makes this simple to use for anyone.

Ideal for finding and clearing fault codes, although there are some that this might not flag up on specific models of car. It has other functionality, but the majority of people will be using this to find fault codes rather than monitoring their car’s system temps/speeds etc.

Cheaper Bluetooth alternatives are available (and can be used in conjunction with free/paid apps on phone/tablet), but this is perfectly fine for its intended use and will save you a fair bit considering what the average garage/dealership charges you for reading error codes.

If you’ve ever seen your engine warning light come on and wondered if it was serious or not, then this is the kit for you. There are a lot of these on the market now, but this one has a fairly large colour screen and is very easy to use. It looks like it’s touchscreen, but it isn’t, so you need to use the keypad to navigate through the different screens.

It helps if you look at an online video of how to use these things and it’s always helpful to read up on what the many codes mean, but you can easily do that through your phone. There are also apps you can download to add a bit more info, should you feel the urge. Although I’ve not had to use it seriously yet, the main benefit I’m hoping for is that it’ll give me a clue as to whether or not any light is serious enough to require immediate attention or if it can be safely ignored. Apparently you can also use this machine to switch off the light if it’s not necessary.

Definitely does what it says on the tin!
This does a great job and is really easy to use too. Feels of good quality and comes with all the bits you’d need.
The OBD2 DTC lookup library is dead handy for diagnosing and the colour display is brill.
    Overall, a definite recommendation.

MOTOPOWER MP69035 OBD2 Scanner Universal Car Engine Fault Code Reader, CAN Diagnostic Scan Tool for All OBD II Protocol Cars Since 1996

This OBD2 code reader is very good and very helpful whenever you feel your car has something wrong. You plug it into your car and comes up straight away.

We’ve had ones before where you have to download the app and use it that way which is really annoying. With this one there is no messing about just plug in.

No need for batteries so your saving money there for starters, just plug into your cars usb.
It’s handheld so its a nice size.

Its compatible with most cars from 1996 from different countries and it’s got 6 languages, it’s also LCD screen the measurements are 128×64 pixels. It’s got a nice white backlight to see clearly even contrast adjustment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very impressed!
