So far I am very pleased with the operation and ease of use. It has already, in two days, diagnosed and allowed me to fix a nagging check engine light on my Mini Cooper. I was getting a persistent catalytic converter malfunction on the Mini-specific code reader. however, using this unit showed a P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency ow Threshold Bank 1, which is an upper upper O2 sensor. So far really pleased with the functionality and capabilities.

I bought this code reader as an upgrade to a basic unit that only read and erased engine codes. This reader has tons of compatible car makes and models, more than I’ve ever seen. It works great as a simple code reader but you can upgrade it for a 1 time fee to do even more. Even with the extra cost it’s still worth it. It did ask me multiple times to select a language when I first got it but hasn’t done it again. Being able to connect to wifi, email diagnostic reports, and having a touch screen is awesome. Well worth the price!

The scanner works brilliantly, has many functions including the ability to reset services as well as finding errors not just in the 4 basic modules but all the modules on the car and being able to provide information by connecting that code to the internet, also it keeps receiving regular updates.

The great thing about this is you can buy add-ons as you need them and virtually end up with something with 1000 for around about 100 or you can just keep it basic which is good enough for the original price but I would recommend going for the add-on it’s well worth i

So far I have found the device relatively easy to understand and use. However it should be more clear that a lot of functions really appear after paying the $40 to unlock functions.

Mind you that $40 is lifetime and unlocks for all cars unlike other devices that charge yearly or for only one vehicle at a time.

The only issue I have is that the screen is partially delaminating (a screen bubble appeared) at the lower left. It does not affect functions though.

Great professional looking scanner which feels good in the hand, east to connect & on screen menu is simple to follow, really great for finding those pesky error codes, I’ve only used it once but it found a code & im not in the process of getting the Dpf sorted on the van. A great scanner for the price.

Got this as I’m tired of our local main dealer charging a small fortune just to run a diagnostic on my car.

Recently, I got the dreaded check engine light, so grabbed this and plugged it in.

I would love to say I understood everything that it said, but I’m not a mechanic. What it did show though, is where the fault was, and enabled me to tell my local garage what needed fixing, without them needing to go through the expensive diagnostics themselves.

Feels like a nice bit of kit, and seems well made.

I have lost track how many time I have needed one of these scanners over the years and as you will know every time you have to pop a car in to reset a warning light or diagnostic check it isn’t cheap, I have only used it a couple of times so far but it is easy to use and worked a treat both times, Quality wise I would say it is great for the odd job but maybe not if you was using one everyday in the garage but I am sure then you would have a expensive one anyway. at time of writing this review it was 59.99 and so it will pay for itself in one use so overall I think it is a great buy.

A couple of months ago my hubby purchased a car diagnostics reader for the first time mainly because he wanted to see if the issue with the car was what he thought it was and could get it fixed himself vs taking it into a garage but a much cheaper item than this one.
Here again a few months later the engine light had come on again and this is where this is a brilliant device especially if you are able to fix- it-yourself or/and can confirm what needs to be repaired or serviced before taking it to the garage and being charged for a diagnostics test.

This one plugs in and scans away really quickly and confirmed another issue where he was able to fix it with a friend vs taking it into the garage unnecessarily.

It is a solid and well-made device, so easy to use, with a clear and large responsive touchscreen display.
Instructions are excellent if you have never used one before.
My hubby has not opted for the upgrade at this time.

This OBD2 scanner comes in a blister pack and inside you’ll find the scanner and the user leaflet.

WHAT DOES IT DO AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
The scanner is designed to be able to read your cars ECU and help you troubleshoot your vehicle. It can read fault codes and can erase them after a successful repair. It can also display other diagnostic data to help troubleshoot any issues you’re having which includes oxygen sensor voltages, check for misfires, monitor the fuel system and engine coolant temperature and more. It works by connecting to your cars OBD2 (OBDII) port which has a direct link to your ECU, which is the system in your vehicle that tells everything what to do. Linking into this allows you to monitor what the ECU can see and is a valuable tool in diagnosing issues.

    HANDS ON
The scanner has a reasonable amount of weight to it and has the OBD2 connector cable hardwired into it. As soon as you plug it into your OBD2 port, it can power up and is ready for use. Navigation is easy by pressing the arrow buttons and “OK” to confirm and “the bendy arrow” to go back. The menus are simply laid out and is not overly complicated and I was playing around through the menus without needing to glance at the leaflet.

I have the perfect test for this as I have a car that has a fault code that keeps coming back every day, when cleared, and has done for years. Plugging in this reader to the OBD2 port, it immediately powered on. Turning the car on, and clicking the engine symbol on the reader, got me to the engine diagnostics and I clicked on “read codes”. It started to connect to my car and came up with finding 2 faults codes. These were the exact codes that my other device picked up so this can read the ECU fault codes with no issue. Next, I tried to clear the codes and a bar quickly slid across the screen and then confirmed that all fault codes were cleared. This was confirmed by looking at my dash and the check engine light had gone out, so all codes were erased.

I had a quick play with the other diagnostics and watched the voltage of my o2 sensors and other little things which I have no use for at this point in time. My main focus was the fault code feature as I find that the most helpful for home repair.

    CONCLUSION
My test concluded that this does indeed read and delete fault codes which is always my main use for these readers. It was easy to use and didn’t need an external power source as it was powered by the OBD2 port. It’s great that it has its own built in fault code database, after you’ve downloaded it for your car. This OBD scanner is the fastest one I’ve ever used as it quickly goes through the menus and it checks for codes really quickly. A full system diagnoses took about 25 seconds. I have bought the upgrade as it opens it up for even more options and for me, it was well worth the fee. You are getting a decent scanner for your money here, even when counting the fee for full functionality. It includes I/M Readiness check, Smog check readiness, Digital or Graph display, DTC lookup, Screen record, Record printing and sharing, Auto VIN Scan, it can even email you the test results so you can check it out at a later date. It is powered by the OBD-II port or you can use the included USB-C cable to power it. I think it is also rechargeable as when I unplugged it, it was saying 100% on a battery icon on the top right corner and the scanner stayed powered on until I held the power button. It can connect to your home Wi-Fi so it can be updated and downloaded the latest car data. It does read and erase fault codes on the free version, so you don’t have to upgrade to do that. My screenshots were all taken on the free version, and I was so impressed, I upgraded shortly after. I’m really impressed with this scanne

5.0 out of 5 stars You can read and erase codes on the free version, I found it worth the upgrade...

Ordered for my dad to replace his old one so that when I take my poorly car round he can work out the problem for me! He was very impressed with it and how easy it was to work. It’s definitely a good investment as it can save unwanted trips to the garage for diagnostics.

This scanner is very high quality and is well worth the buy. The price is amazing and in the field it functions well. I picked up two of these just so I have a back up.

This is a decent bit of kit. The scanner arrives securely packaged in a branded plastic-moulded packaging. It is well-made, robust and feels as though it will take a few knocks without issue. It has a bit of weight to it, is comfortable to hold and comes with the necessary cables. You can choose whether or not to take out a paid subscription to a four system diagnostic function, with a lifetime of free updates; I like the fact that you have the option, as it won’t be necessary for everyone, and it does keep the costs down. At present, I haven’t done this, but my partner hasn’t ruled it out for the future.

The touch screen is clear, a generous size and easy to read, even in bright light. There is a quick guide included, but the menus are reasonably intuitive, especially if you’ve used a device like this before. It holds a lot of information, but I couldn’t find any mode to run through a complete diagnostic test; that could easily be down to me and lack of time to work it out. Scanning is very quick and it’s accurate; we have a couple of known minor faults with one of the cars at the moment and this tracked them down without issue.

If I was to be picky, I would say that this would benefit from a travel/storage case, just to give it a bit of extra protection when not in use.

At the time of writing this review, the cost is 59.99, so it sits roughly in the mid-range and I think it’s worth it for what you get.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI needed to investigate ABS and tyre pressure sensor faults on a VW passat. Although I suspected the ABS sensor without the diagnostic tool it is impossible to know on which wheel the problem is. So I tried the MUCAR CDE900 diagnostic checker. The device comes in plastic packaging shaped to the checker but the communication cable is so tightly bent to fit the packaging that I am concerned the cable has been over stressed and will fail over time (see picture). As I am an occasional user of this device I think the risk is low for me but if you want to use this frequently it may not last as long as you would like. The device has some FAQ section one which says you should only use the supplied charger to recharge the battery. There is no supplied charger, there is a USB C cable which will charge the device, from a standard USB type charger. Additionally there are a few demo videos which are useful but not completely clear.

To use the device other than for engine diagnostics it needs to connect to wifi for updates also for sending reports and using the browser function. After connecting to wifi it immediately updates the operating software to the latest version. I wanted the ABS diagnostics which is an additional $40 to use this functionality. To upgrade to the expanded functionality one option is to enter your credit card details into the device. This is where my concerns start to arise as it is not clear if that data is stored on the device or on a server. However you can go to the MUCAR website and use Paypal or a credit card to download a “T-code” instead and enter that into the device. The device operates like a smart phone and data (wifi password, credit card details) can be easily entered using the on screen keyboard. Screen resolution is good although the keys can be a bit small for wider fingers.
Having upgraded to the additional functionality you need to download the manufacturers fault code data. This can take about 5 mins per manufacturer and Seat, Skoda, and Audi all seem to require downloading separately in addition to VW so it is not simply the VAG group that you download.
What is not clear is whether having paid there is any time limit on when you need to download the fault codes by and whether the payment will expire?

A diagnostic check is easy to run and any error codes can be clicked and it will take you to a web browser with google search results for that code. There you can watch Youtube videos etc. The screen is a bit small for watching the videos and there does not seem to be any sound but you can turn on auto captions in youtube so you have subtitles.
The report can be pdf’d and emailed or transferred by bluetooth, I have only tried emailing so far but that was straightforward and quick. Again not sure of the security implication of this as it must be uploaded to an email server somewhere. There appears to be a permanent icon to link you to a helpdesk, I have not used it and it is a bit annoying as the icon covers certain graphics but it can be dragged across the screen to move it out of the way. The helpdesk seems to be in Canada so the desk hours according to the website are: London time 11:00-02:00Next day
In short the tool has diagnosed the right rear sensor as being the problem and that should save me booking the car into the garage as I can replace the sensor myself.
