New Direction Tackle 4*Magnetic Butt Rest P8 for Carp

I purchased this product because of the way I prefer to fish with my carp rod. I don’t often have two carp rods out as I prefer to have one as a second rod whilst fishing a variety of styles on my main setup for species other than carp, however my carp rod is setup in a specific way in that I prefer to give controlled resistance to a taking fish and it’s important that the rod cannot move forward or be pulled out of its alarm and rear rod rest and with this in mind I have tried many makes of rear rod rests with various results from ok to potentially disastrous results so this product was chosen with a lot of trepidation. They are the best such rod rests so far I can confirm the comments of other reviews about how powerful the magnets in them are but provided you pick up the rod as per normal the release is good, I can see why pod users would struggle with them but if a bit of thought is applied a pod can be secured either with a proprietary pod strap (fox international had one in their range) or make one with a short Bungee cord and a couple of bivvy pegs. The safest way though is to use a well driven in bankstick , this product is excellent set up correctly, worth 5 stars.
