Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI have just used this to repoint between the stones on the patio and in general it worked well. I looked up a few guides online and used a 4:1 mixture and added a generous amount of plasticiser. I made quite a wet mixture but I wanted it to flow under the stones a bit as well so this was ideal. I used the recommended general builders sand as it’s not recommended to use sharp sand. Not sure if this was the best idea as the sand had quite a few larger stones in it which I had to sieve first as they would block the nozzle.
I had a few blockages. If you get a blockage unscrew the end and shake out the nozzle. Don’t try and force it out as you’ll just force water out of the mixture and will have to empty and refill.

I was a bit weary of buying this after reading the mixed reviews, but I am so glad I did. Excellent for getting the mortar far back between the bricks which can be awkward.
Make your usual mix just a touch sloppyer, use a plastisizer and keep a wet cloth over the top of the bucket and it will all be fine.
Point the horizontal lines first then do your verticals.
I have read some reviews about lack of instructions, trust me you really don’t need these as it’s not rocket science to put together.
Bottom line yes I would and will recommend this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Game changer!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersExcellent for getting mortar and grout into tight and difficult to fill places. A suggestion for the manufacturer is to provide a funnel as part of the kit. It does produce a solid plug which needs to be pushed out with the applicator removed, also needs to be washed clean after 5-10 loads (dependant on material mix) otherwise the mechanism clogs up.

I got this to grout a patio and it did take a bit of getting used to – particularly the consistency of the mortar mix. Too dry and it soon bungs up the gun. Too sloppy and it dribbles out before you want it to. When you get it right it is very accurate and avoids staining the slabs, but overall it wasn’t a huge time saver over using a trowel and bucket. Watch Youtube videos to help get the technique right.

I read all the reviews some were good some was bad tried it my self pointing a wall did it with ease.you do need to get the mix not to sloppy not to stiff i had a buket of water and kept cleaning it quick after the canster was empty to do a full wall you need to move quick. Would recommend this product..

One of the best things i have bought for many a year. Just follow others advice and mix in more plasticiser and it works brilliant. I was able to point up my old house where much of the mortar had fallen out over the years, and i am most definitely not a brickie by any standards. You just end up with about 2-3″ of mortar each time in the tube that all the water has been pushed out of that needs to be pushed out each time before refilling. Just mix it back in with the rest of the mix.

Makes short work of pointing. Imperative to add plasticiser so you end up with a creamy mortar mix – a small squeeze of washing up liquid will do the trick if you have no proprietary stuff to mix in. Failure to do this will mean you clog the gun and squeeze out all the wate

What’s not to like? A really good quality item. I bought this to inject cement slurry into some old silicone moulds I had.
Yeah it took a while to sort what plunger I needed but the nozzle choices were perfect and I got the job done, though my hands resemble scrotums now.
    Really good quality item!

Makes pointing paving so much easier.
I mixed the mortar in a bucket with a mortar & cement mixer drill attachment, which makes mixing a doddle. Once mixed, the attachment can easily be cleaned by operating it in a bucket of water. The mortar needs to be nice and buttery. Fill the tube with a small trowel, and settle it down to get rid of air.
I can’t emphasize enough that you need a large bucket of water close by, so that you can keep all the components – particularly the threads, nice and clean at alI times.
Occasionally, you will find that the trigger will become hard to operate, this is caused by the mortar becoming dry. All you need to do is return it to the mortar bucket, add the merest splash of water, and remix.
I’ve seen some reviews which mention leakage whilst in use. I haven’t had this problem, I can only assume that keeping the threads scrupulously clean is the answer.
It gets the mortar deep into the joints, so should last forever.
Nice solid tool, good assortment of nozzles designed to make life so much easier.

Excellent – Solid, controlled Grout application – mixed slightly wetter than usual ( takes approx a quarter bag with minimal waste ) care filling the gun – keep the threads clean ( I greased mine ) Overfill your joints, THEN wash out the gun & nozzles THOROUGHLY before finish float & wash, or you’ll be dropping it straight in the bin a couple pounds of grout heavier..! Highly recommend – but do keep it clean!

Grout normally if you can. However I had a very hard to reach area about 9 foot by the ceiling, and this gave me the reach to apply the grout cleanly. I was using black grout which makes a ton of mess if you just sponge and clean.

This helped, but the drawbacks are the difficulty in finding new parts fro this kit. Without those it’s a disposable item that will last maybe 4 uses.

The reason is that if you get to the end of the tube and squeeze, the nossel gets jammed and you break it trying to push it back out. But it helped for my niche job, in a hard to reach area.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersGreat product – I had fitted a double glazed back door which had lots of gaps between the bricks and the frame (some quite narrow gaps but deep). I’d read a few of the reviews so I was a bit cautious if this was going to be a good tool, particularly some comments about water being squeezed out of mortar etc. I decided I would try just half filling the tube each time and I have to say this worked brilliantly. Yes a couple of times it did block up but this happened when I had filled the tube about 3/4 full rather than 1/2 full – very simple to rectify, take the nozzle end off and squeeze the trigger to eject the blockage, refill half way and go again!

I used this for doing vertical sides and horizontal across the door frame top – this was repeated on both sides of the door. The cement was ‘injected’ deep into the gaps, far deeper than I could have managed with a finger or trowl.

Finally, I had some cement left over so I used it to fill a few gaps in my patio mortar – it did this really well.

So – you’ll see some negative reviews on here, and granted I’m not a professional tradesman, but more of a hap hazard / semi useful DIYer – however this roughneck product felt very well made and did exactly what I needed it for, brilliantly. Don’t be greedy, if it squeezes out too much water and then blocks you’ve probably overfilled it for the mix your using so just empty it and out a bit less in next time.

I was a little worried by some of the reviews but I had seen a chap using one to mend a wall and thought I would chance it. It was worth the risk it has worked like a dream. I’ve been tryin to fill some deep gaps with mortar and getting more on the floor than in the gap. This tool has saved me so much time and effort, I’m now sprinting ahead with the job. I have used a plasticiser and mixed the morter up quite wet. I’ve cut a funnel to load the gun Yes it will dribble a little and you are left with a bit that will not push out. It is important to take your time reading the instructions as they are a little unclear.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’m a complete novice, an office worker with soft hands and minimal DIY skills. This gun enabled me to repoint one side of my house. It was so much easier and quicker than learning the correct pointing technique that builders or tradesmen use.
It took me a while to get the hang of it, the key is in the mix for the mortar. A few videos on YouTube demonstrate how to mix the mortar correctly for this gun. The mix looks really sloppy but stayed in the crevices and with the gun you can see the mortar filling each gap.
I used a ready mixed mortar and added a plasticiser. After a few mixes I learnt how to get the best mix possible for the gun and it was easy to use. The job is quite messy and I needed to clean the bricks afterwards but I probably would have made more mess using a trowel or a tuck pointer.
I found it useful to only mix small amounts at a time in a medium sized bucket. Then I would clean the gun with a hose after each bucket.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for a novice

This works a treat. I’ve just re-pointed an 18m2 in the equivalent of a day and a half with the aid of this tool. I had no problems with clogs or back leaks. My mortar mix was 4 to1 with the appropriate mix of plasticiser. Just make the mix a little wetter than normal and it flows smoothly and even. The only time I had any issue was if I’d been slow, literally fill and pipe. I did one mix, piped it all while the consistency of the mix was right then went back over to tool the pointing by which time it had dried a little which helped to give a better finish.

Easy to load and use but it did eventually seize up at which point I realised I was covered in mortar juice and remembered the reviews warning about it squeezing all the liquid out leaving dry mortar that then won’t come out. I used a 3:1 mix of builders sand and cement with some frost protector and fairy liquid to make it more workable. I’m sure with a few more goes I would get it working fine though, but for now have no need to use as it did the job in hand fine….. filling the gap between house and extensio

Dont pay attention to the reviews that said this product didn’t work, they nearly put me off purchasing! It was as I suspected, you cannot just mix sand, cement and a drop of water in a bucket and expect this to work properly. With washed builders sand, cement and plasticiser in the water mix, mixed in a cement mixer to a creamy consistency this product made pointing an absolute doddle. Saved me hours of trowel work and cleaning brick faces.

Would like to know how to buy a spare part. Sadly a piece of the nozzle holder broke and I would like to obtain a new one. Other wise a very well manufactured mortar gun. I would certainly reccommend.

Golden Review Award: 52 From Our UsersI have been using this in my cellar to re-point between flagstones and gaps in the brick walls before slurry tanking. I read various reviews about some people having problems getting the right consistency of mortar for the gun to eject the mortar. I first tried mixing the mortar using Kiln Dried Sand as someone recommended; this just resulted the gun squeezing the water out of the mixture and the nozzle blocking up as it was then too dry!

I found that my usual mix of 3 : 1 of normal building sand to Portland cement and mixed in with Everbuild Liquid Water-proofer and water worked fine. (This seems to be the recommended ratio for mortar below the damp proof coarse; I haven’t tried the gun at the normal 4 : 1 for above the DPC.) The water-proofer is a partial plasticizer as well, not sure is makes a difference to the operation of the gun.

I have made a video of the mortar mix that I found worked with this gun, you can see the consistency I used – sloppy, but still falling off the trowel with some shape to it. The mortar came out of the gun quite readily, but only as it was pressed out, so it was easy to control. (Yes, I am a DIY’er not a professional…!)

Loading without a specially rounded trowel was still fairly easy, you can just push a lump of mortar in and then in one shake makes it drop to the bottom. (Bit messy though!)

As others have said, the instructions are not very good; confusing repetitions of steps and inconsistent part descriptions – not quite as bad as those awful Chinese-product instructions, but it’s best to read some other guides or just work it out for yourself thoroughly before starting.

Good mortar gun, and after some experimentation and practise, does save time and mess.

Have read reviews saying these don’t work…well they do work… And work very well.. but don’t be cheap and use crap sand .. there is a science in making the perfect sand castles for a reason and same applies to compressing sand in a tube for pointing… Use either a soft washed sand or buy mortar specially made for mortar guns… Then least with the later the colour will be consistent throughout if making multiple batches…and also it will be a breeze to use.. keep the mixture as loose as poss without being runny… And refill regularly before reaching end of tube to avoid compressing last bits of sand

It’s good does what it says on the tin, however the cheaper model comes with a handy scope that fits in the tube prefect this one doesn’t so I can’t understand why it wouldn’t come with the same if not better accessories

Golden Review Award: 25 From Our UsersWorks a treat. Been using these muck guns for years. Had a few different brands. I like this one coz all the muck water doesn’t dribble down ur arm and all over the roof when repointing chimney stack as it has a screw on reservoir chamber that keeps it all sealed. The trick it getting these things to perform is all in the consistency of ur muck. Sand must be completely grit free so I use soft wash or plastering sand. 3:1 sand to cement. U don’t want a sandy mix. And lots of Febmix. U’d never normally knock up muck this sloppy but it needs to slide out the nozzle without any effort. Trick is to overfill the joints so when u face up using an iron or trowel, any excess will just fall away. Then lightly brush when it’s gone off. Clean the tool toughly It’ll pay in the long run. I like that it has spare parts su

I have a lot of stone walling to point & need to be able to get the mortar right into the joint & this is the tool for the job.
It does take a bit of playing around with the mortar mix to get it right but once you have it it’s great.
For those of you who find that it just pumps out the water & leaves a solid lump in the tube, experiment with different sands if you can, soft sand is best, but if like me you can only get sharp sand then add a plasticiser to the mix & I also had to add lime.
To speed things up you probably need two, with one person loading & the other filling the joints.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersUsed a 4.1 mix with plasticiser, quite a loose consistency but one that would still stay attached to trowel on it’s side. Used a cut down pop bottle as a funnel to get mix into gun. To begin with delivery was spot on and mortar clearly visible going well into the brick gap. Much quicker than using trowel to repoint and fairly neat application. But……… By the time 3quarters of the tube has been used the remaining mortar has been compressed so much that the water has been squeezed through the slots in the plunger into the back of the gun and is too “dry” to go through the nozzle. Feels like if you force it the gun would break. The mortar left in the tube can be remixed with any left in your bucket but it means you will spend more time than expected refilling the gun.

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersIts ok , but your mortar needs a chemical additive to make it useful for pointing or you can use some fairy liquid, you need to use fine sand and mix well. Used this a few times for neat pointing on stonework but be patient as it has a fairly slow flow rate for this type of work.
