It’s brilliant but despite the official photos, it only measures in centimetres, there are no inches. I see from other people’s photos in the reviews they’ve had the same issue.

Absolutely love this tape measure easily one of the best tapes on the market. Superb strength on the length of the tape when you would need two people otherwise. Also a handy size not too bulky.

Very durable too I’ve dropped it of various heights and it always with stands the fall.

So don’t take my word for it, try one and I’ll see your review on the flip side.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stanley FATMAX 5m tape!

I’m a tacker/dryliner and have found this particular tape to be the best I have used yet. The metric only markings make it far more accurate as you have metric markings on the top side of the tape so that when you are measuring across to the top side of the tape you don’t have to guess where the metric mark is. As a result my cutting is far more accurate now and I can work to 1 mill tolerances without a fuss. Also because it’s so sturdy it can extend out for miles without breaking making ceiling boards far easier to measure. The lack of imperial measurements is also great for winding up the old boys who insist on still using imperial measurements even though they are less accurate and quite outdated now.

As a carpenter using a tape measure everyday I used to go through them fairly quickly in the dirty and wet site environment (1 every 3 or 4 months). This one so far has lasted me nearly a year. It has a nice thick blade, a lovely long standout for reaching points far away, the first 100mm or so is also extra plastic coated, so whilst past that the markings have started to come away and rust as they do with heavy use and always getting wet, the initial markings are still brand new, perfect for quick fine work. I bet mine still has a long life left in it, but when it breaks, of all the tapes I could choose from to replace it, I’ll buy another of these.

It’s a bit of a lump so more suited to the toolbox than your pocket. Very sturdy item and the only downside for me is the lack of imperial measurements which would have been handy when working with old materials which were made in feet and inches.

I’ve had one of this for 6 years and it was perfect but it got lost. Very good quality and very strong.
I like the bit at the beginning of the tape that is protected by a clear film so the markings don’t wear off. If you are working in construction, you want something as strong and long lasting as this

On my 3rd one- I lost one, the tape broke on the last hence why I’d say maybe it should somehow be tougher but all in all great tape measure for site abit big but you get used to it but yeah good tape

I’m chuffed with this. It is so rugged and robust. I’ve dropped it already on the floor and I am sure it bounced. Plenty of protection fro. The rubberised area. So it is built strong.
I’m impressed with the standout. Over three metres is highly impressive. It dips ever so slightly.
The mechanism to lock is a bit stiff to press down.
The tape itself is clear and easily visible.
The end isn’t magnetic which would have been nice but it is large and hooks very securely on the end of wood.
It recoils sensibly. It doesn’t pull back out of control but smoothly and not too fast.
    Overall great quality.

4.0 out of 5 stars Robust, strong, sensible return recoil, clear and accurate

This is the third 25′ plus Stanley tape that I have bought. Other 2 are still in use although showing signs of their hard indoor and outdoor life. This one is metric only, but is well made and robust with a good lock and long stiff section for pushing out unsupported. Feels very comfortable in the hand and the rewind is quick even when fully extended. Hard to see how you would find a better tape measure!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis tape measure is geared towards professional tradespeople, it would be overkill need for your everyday DIY male/female, also it weighs 533g, so it is quite heavy and chunky in the hand. The tape is metric only, meaning measuring in CM only, it doesn’t include inches or feet. The tape is well made, very robust and would withstand everyday wear and tear on a building site.

I bought this because I got so fed up looking upside down to measure corners with my old combined imperial/metric measures.

This one is great. In fact I have two, this one and the silver one, both great. Then I bought a cheaper alternative brand, not as good. Its Fat Max all the way.

My only comment might be they’re a bit heavy, I might buy the 5m version too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great metric measure

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersBy far the greatest tape measure out there. Have the 5m as my every day carry, the big gun comes out for special occasions. Robust, the 5m has brushed off many a journey south. Is built far better then that joke of a tape they call the Fatmax Extreme, which my Boss has. the thing is clumsy as hell and the plastic feels more brittle.

The advantage of doing away with an imperial scale is not lost on anyone that uses these things on a daily basis. Along with the smooth and gentle retracting of the tape, this thing is a pleasure to use. Stanley have perfected the tape measure with this range.

Excellent quality as you would expect. The great thing about this is the length of reach before it collapses. Very useful for measuring high points from the floor. I was able to check if the pole pruner I wanted would reach the branches I needed to cut. I can’t think of an easier way to measure such a thing so quickly.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI use the stanley fatmax range of tools a lot in my job as a carpenter, they are consistently well made, well designed and hard wearing as well as looking good.
These tapes are no exception and I never use any other, I’v got through about four in the last eight years which is pretty impressive considering I use it every single day on site, I am especially pleased that this Metric only version is available as I never use inches in my calculations and I can now read both edges to measure things, very useful in awkward spaces.
If you want a tough, well designed tape measure that will last, spend the little extra and get one of these, you won’t regret it.
