Would have given 5 stars but the adjustment screw binds up pretty tight in 3 spots along its length so maybe the quality control could be a little better. I’ve used it with a wet stone to put a 30 degree bevel on a couple of different sized wood plane blades and it worked fine, except for the sticking adjustment screw. Each time the screw got stuck I couldn’t turn it by hand so had to use a screw driver. It was a bit of an inconvenience when readjusting for different sized blades. I haven’t used it to sharpen any chisels yet but the screw binds up in that area too. A drop of oil helped a little but still hard to turn by hand when it sticks. That said, once the blade is secured it’s at the proper angle and easy to sharpen.

Mycket bttre n den jag har tidigare av annat mrke. Inga strre problem att stta fast det som ska slipas. Andra verkar ha problem men visst de kanske har smre version n denna eller helt enkelt handhavande fel

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThe item works, but it has two flaws that make it a bit harder to use than necessary. The first flaw is the ball bearings that ride along the centre. It would’ve been better if they’d been attached to the movable jaws, so they sit wider apart. This would aid in keeping the chisel straight and flat on the stone. The second flaw is the jaws themselves. They pinch the chisel, and are slanted slightly inwards to provide a sturdier grip. However, the slanted notch is not tall enough to properly grip mid-sized chisels, and the result is that it now pinches on a very narrow area on the flat side of the chisel, and it’s easy to accidentally dislodge the chisel while working. As a result, this grinding aid can be used, but is somewhat finicky to work with.

Consiglio!

    Buona guida per affilare

The primary reason I bought the jig was a ball bearing roller. Unfortunately it came with a few rust spots. It does not affect jig performance, but if you use wet stones for sharpening be careful to clean, dry and lubricate after use.

This is a useful tool for maintaining a consistent edge on your chisels. Clearly made of high quality products, it completes its function to satisfaction.
Be careful when using the lower clamp to hold your metal, as it is important to keep it level to the stone, and it can be easy to try to set it inside the included bevel (if it doesn’t fit you will have issues doing it that way).
Advice- clean the bearing wheel between grits to avoid contaminating your stones. Look up dual beveling planer blades and chisels on YouTube or Google to cut down on time spent sharpening. And concentrate on maintaining a straight line while sharpening to avoid uneven bevels.

The groove to hold the tool is a bit thick with paint. It is difficult to place the tool accurately in the holder. When using you need to move the tool far beyond the recommended spot unless the stone is long enough to ride the guide on the stone. The bearing is in the middle of the guide which makes it prone to canting. That being said with a little experimenting the tool is useful.

Bought two versions of this honing guide for comparison. This brand is far superior in terms of machining. Beds line up, chisel jaws close to support very narrow chisels (1/8″). The similarly priced stainless steel version is far inferior. Have bought 4 more for my Woodworking class. Note that it is not suitable for sharpening short blades, like in the Veritas Low Angle block plane. You need a blade with at least 3″ long parallel sides.

Product was delivered quickly and I am pleased with the quality of its construction. Have already used it to help with sharpening several wood chisels and a plane blade. Very happy with this purchase.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersMost important is to hone your tools on a dead flat surface. Use a 1/4″ thick piece of plate glass 8 1/2″ by 11″ or a black granite surface plate if available. I recommend using wet or dry abrasive paper. If the edge is damaged or out of square start with 80 or 100 grit and work your way up to 400 grit. If you are using a honing stone that is not dead flat your chisel edge will not be consistent side to side. Also, make sure the chisel or plane blade is firmly clamped in the “V” grooves on the honing guide.

This guide is very easy to use. An instruction is included on the side of the box to show how the correct angle of the chisel is set, however I suggest you place the chisel on the whetstone, then align the guide to the chisel. Ensure the chisel is correctly located within the guide, then check that the chisel is perfectly mated to the whetstone.

Its ok, but if you’re going to be placing a bevel edge chisel in there that’s a little chunky it doesn’t hold it well, some parts need filing flat and some of the edge space taken out so it holds them straigh
