Newer airfix kits has really stepped up their game with these 1/48 scale Aircrafts, especially this Mustang. Perfect decals, perfect fit, literally no issues. Would recommend to any intermediate model builder!

    Great details included.
You get an engine and 2 gun bays. You don’t get swastika for the tail. It’s a German law it can’t be displayed so for sales in Germany. No one gets them.
But there is no reason why Airfix can’t make them in 2 parts like other kit makers. The kit is small. A lot smaller than i remember but it was 55yrs ago the last time I built one and that was 1/72
Cutting out the gun bays from top wing is to fiddly for my eyesight. The engine is nice and a lot easier to build. All in all a nice kit.

Iconic aircraft so even if you are a new stater in modelling or returning to modelling after decades.
You’ll be able to make it look good. The covid restrictions got me back into modelling, and governments saying to stay at home as much as possible.
I’m a complete amateur but still made a half-decent job at the kit.
Pus the 1:48 scale makes it a bit easier for us older guys’ less fiddly bits.
    Good kit I recommend it.

Makes into a great model, but needs quite a bit of work imo
This isn’t a trivial build, but it is extremely well engineered and has a great amount of detail

My copy had badly fitting wings, it seems to be a fairly common issue, but a lot of dry fitting, clamps and brute force got it all together

I should add that I put on the mirror, riveting and painted most of the markings (this is Douglas Bader’s 242 squadron)

Usually stick to Tamiya models, but couldn’t get a decent priced Hurricane so opted for the Airfix kit. Long time since I built Airfix but I have to say this kit at least has come on leaps and bounds. With a bit of modelling experience it goes together really well. Minimal flash on the kit and the seam lines are very fine and easy to get rid of. The joins for the wings and the wings to the fuselage are always tricky areas but this wasn’t the case for here. Nice cockpit area as well ( I didn’t use the pilot figure) which helps if you leave the canopy open like I have. Pleasure to build and paint, although I bought seperate stencils so I could paint on the aircraft codes and roundels rather than use the decals that came with the kit. Hopefully the photos do it some justice.

    complicated
Does not get 5* because a lot of construction is internal and not seen when model is finished. Seems to be more for the model making purist. Quite fiddly to say the least.

The actual model kit is great but Amazon decided to ship it without a outer box so it had labels all over the art box. Not good when giving as a gift.
