I have only used this twice so far but it works well and I think it will prove to be a great tool. I have a few other cordless 18 volt B and D tools so buying this as a bare unit was ideal.
This satisfaction light but very capable, does not run for long, but that’s due to battery size, if you just need home DIY level.usage then I would highly recommend. Great aping the house, shed garden for a bit of pruning, cutting timber difficult to get at with a standard saw, making holes in wooden panels etc
This little beauty singlehandedly took down a 7 meter lean-to structure on the side of our house. Cut through the wooden beams with ease and saved me a fortune in the process because I didn’t need to bring anyone in. I love it. So simple to use, comfortable to hold and seemingly pretty robust. It is quite heavy, but that is primarily the battery. Don’t waste money on more expensive options, this will do the trick for the occasional everyday jobs.
Bought as a safer alternative to a chainsaw in the garden, this has been used to lop trees, cut up timber and firewood, and generally speed things up.
It’s easy to use, easy to change blades, and with the ability to turn the blade 180, means cutting either way is a doddle.
Perhaps being lighter might be nice, but I can put up with the weight for the times I use it. Not for the finer cuts in life, but it’s more help than hindrance.
The common battery with my B&D hand drill is also useful.
This saw is great once you change the blade. The one in the box is more of a cheese grater. Before you despair and send it back buy a 2 pack wood saw blades by Bosch (same fitting) for under 10 quid and it will rock your world.
It’s like a large freeform jigsaw and it definitely cuts stuff. First use of this has been to make it much easier to take out the old kitchen cabinets and stuff in preparation for the installation of a brand new one (Wickes by the way). So many times screws would not come because their heads had been stripped during installation or while removing the cabinets. Enter the saw which made short work of any wood type products used in the old cabinets.
I bought the saw to cut back some trees and to replace 3 hand saws, that never seem to be the right one…
I had used an old bow saw to trim the occasional branch but this tree was getting out of hand.
I couldn’t get a gardener during the pandemic and after working from home online, I definitely needed the exercise and fresh air!
Having already got a Black and Decker hedge trimmer I could use the same battery and the old, hand-me-down drill was still working like new (despite how it looks…)
The saw worked faster than I thought and the one universal blade cut through smaller branches literally, like butter…
(although the coating soon burned off with friction)
Once I got the bug I couldn’t stop, even when it was 30C but given that temperature and my early amateur attempts at cutting caused a slight over heat, with short cut outs
but the next day and using a more intelligent cutting angle it carried on regardless.
I will finish off the last branch and have go at reducing the trunk to start an easier to manage, lower height coppicing.
I bought some very sharp U.K. made, long wood blades (no B n D comparison blades offered on that Amazon page) –
but apart from the length they didn’t do any better than the one supplied.
Lessons learned: use the handle off switch when climbing and cutting the branch so the wedge opens, not closes Derrr…
(I knew that but I was busy trying to get the length and fall angle right – honest)
Bottom line: Paid for it’s self in it’s first cut – and a reassuring 2 year guarantee…(Headgear trimmer 4 years old, Drill 20 years +)
Blade still sharp after cutting a large tree down to size and much easier on the old elbow for speed cutting basic pieces of 2×2.
I already had the battery so only needed the bare unit. I mainly bought it for the garden and so far have used it to take down a 20 foot bay tree to around 4 feet, as well as general tree pruning. I am female and in my seventies and find it takes the effort out of using a pruning saw and it is not too heavy to use.
I bought this primarily as I already have a B And D Battery strimmer so it made sense as batteries and chargers v pricey.
Lasted 20 mins of almost continuous use on cutting up pallets and once I had the right blade (The supplied blade is not all that good) I cut through a seized iron wing bolt on a closed couple cistern very quickly. Once the battery gets tired, it cuts out on heavy duty jobs.
Great as a domestic use item and I was pleasantly surprised at the power with the right blade.
Great product for the price you pay, ignoring the fact that the blade is useless. Once you get a decent blade, the saw is a great addition and I have used it for cutting through timber sleepers without an issue
Never got a chance to use it as the blade clamp lever was faulty out of the box. Hoping for better luck with the replacement.
UPDATE: The replacement unit was fault-free and it’s extremely effective and useful. So uprated to 4 stars [would have been 5 had the initial unit not been faulty].
Very good saw. Powerful enough for most jobs. Not as robust as a mains saw. Very happy using this on my allotment or for quick jobs around the house.
Recommend. Yes.
Excellent build quality. More powerful that you might think and it passed the metal cutting test with ease using Tacklife blades. As for cutting wood i haven’t tried it yet but based on the metal cutting i don’t see to many issues there. it’s not as powerful as my electric reciprocating saw but doesn’t pretend to be either. This is a very handy saw that will serve you well in tight spots or when you need that instant portability to get something done. Variable speed control on the trigger is good, blade changing is quick and easy. I’m glad i got it and happy to recommend this product. Many thanks.
This saw has exceeded my expectations. Mostly used for sawing up firewood up to 3 – 4 inches diameter. Not sure about blade supplied – looked very short so I purchased longer blades. Already had Black and Decker 18v batteries and chargers so this made the saw a good price. Fully charged battery lasts at least 20 minutes which I find adequate.
Makes light work of many DIY tasks. I already have the charger and batteries with other tools in this range so being able to buy a “bare” unit make this much more affordable.
