I have to say I was a bit disappointed with the quality of this memory) USB stick when I got it out of the pack. It’s very light and just doesn’t feel very well made. The plastic end has some play and the metal part has a long seam on the back – feels like it should have been inside another enclosure of sorts.
This said…the electronics inside must be good as I am getting read and write speeds in excess of 100Mbps when testing in CrystalDiskMark.
Overall, I am happy with the purchase.
As the title says. Needed a small sized drive for the car that could hold a large music library. After formatting it to FAT32 this has done the job, perfect. Couldn’t be happier.
I have ordered 10 of these , received 9 and one microsd card. Seems that is difficult to contact the seller so I leave these comment here in case is noticed to sort the situation. Thank you
Been using this drive loads to put Operating System installers on, the speed seems very good and the device doesn’t get as hot as some other pen drives I have, no complaints from me the drive seems stable and speeds dont seem to degrade from long use and heat like other I have had.
Fast read and write speeds and doesn’t get as hot as the Sandisk Flairs I have. Comes formatted in Fat32 so recognised straight away with my firestick OTG cable which was handy. Seems well made and I like the metal casing type as I feel they help with heat dissipation.
Arrived on time. Great quality at low price. Doesn’t heat up as much as my old Sandisk. The best thing is the transfer speed. However, you need to format the drive first as the default use FAT with big alllocation size so it give slow speed result. After formating to exFat with alpocation unit of 4kb or 16kb, I get the result as in the picture. Bought three, all tested and get the same result.
Bought as I wanted a dedicated drive for moving stuff between PC and Steam Deck while setting up emulation etc but I wish i spent more in hindsight as speed isnt the best it does the job just not as fast as I expected – lesson lea
Small and possibly easy to lose. But very good value storage from a company that have never let me down, and I use a lot of USBs, SSDs etc. Never had any issue with Kingston. That’s certainly worth something in my book.
I bought this to replace a integral stick I had ordered that failed on the first write so this time I made sure to verify the usb stick was okay before using it which it passed. I then backed up the data I wanted it for onto the stock. Transfer speed was reasonable to fill half the capacity with files of varying sizes and types. It gets a bit warm and as with all sticks it uses metric rather than binary values to describe the capacity so expect around 115GiB actual storage but was fine and did the job.
Despite it states 60MB per second write speed, max you will get is 30MB per second. Considering it’s 256GB, may take ages to put big chunks of file in it. Other than that, looks good.
This USB flash drive represents good value for money, is it the fastest? No, is it the slowest? No not by a long shot.
Testing with CrystalDiskMark reveals:
Sequential read speeds around 200-220MB/s.
Sequential write speeds between 65-110MB/s
Random read speeds between 9-10MB/s
Random write speeds between 0.01-0.02MB/s
The above is typical of cheap flash storage devices. The random write is poor but all but the highest end controls and flash memory struggle with this type of IO.
For general use, copying typical files we find today, large images, videos, backups, ZIPs etc then this drive will do well. But copying millions of tiny files to it will take a long long time.
Tested on a Thinkpad P14S using a USB 3.2 port.
It got warm during testing but not hit by any means.
For the price this is probably the best value for money memory stick on the market.
