Classic fun with scrabble, a hit with my children!
I recently got the scrabble board game for my children and have really enjoyed it. The game is a fantastic mix of fun and education. it will certainly help them improve. They improve their vocabulary and spelling skills whilst having a blast. The game encourages strategic thinking and creativity. The board and pieces are high-quality and durable.
The game comes with a sturdy box, making it portable. Make sure you place it on a stable surface to ensure stability and to make sure that everything stays in place.
The game has been a perfect addition to our board game collection, highly recommended.
The classic word game.
Bought for a friend who doesn’t do any online shopping so she always asks me. She got Scrabble to play with her kids, it’s the most fun way of improving a child’s vocabulary and spelling, being taught without realising it and you can literally play this game for hours. There have been attempts to copy Scrabble but the original is still the best.
I was concerned that wooden pieces would be better than plastic ones however the plastic pieces are fine in this set set and I have no worries at all about the quality of the board. It is absolutely fine for having a family game of Scrabble.
another replaceme
I am a busy scrabbler first thing in a morning after breakfast and this sits in the conservatory and was a blessing during lockdown. I have worn out two boards so far and this one will have a plastic coating put on the board this time to prolong its surface. Waddingtons Original was definitely the best make for board and tiles, but this is a good second.
This is an original Scrabble game by Mattel and not a poor quality imitation. I would have given 5 stars had the packaging been better, I had to return two as they arrived damaged!

Great game and a classic.
Bear in mind, there’s no score pad included and the Scrabble Companion app isn’t compatible with every phone. It’s not available for my hubby’s Honor and will only work on iOS 16 and above, so I can’t download it either. Feels a bit unfair.

Classic game and great value at this price. Don’t expect a premium feel as this is the cheaper version. There are more expensive versions available with more bells and whistles. We purchased this base model to see if we liked it and will potentially upgrade to a more premium version in time. Main features we miss is a grid that holds the letters in place when on the board, but wouldn’t expect that at this price.
Classic game that's pretty much unchanged.
It’s Scrabble… One star removed because the trays and pieces are all plastic… I think there is a wood version available, but it’s very pricey compared to this one.
Still a great game to play with the family.

Great fun as always, but I miss my deluxe version (where there are grooves for the tiles so they don’t move around). I would have bought the deluxe version had it not been crazy money.
Having said that, we still have loads of fun playing it with our boy.
No instructions inside the box
I purchased the Italian version and there were no instructions inside the boxwe had to use some help from Google to remember the rules. Other than that we always have pleasant times play with “scarabeo” (italian name). It stimulates our brains and time goes soooo fast 🙂

Item fine - delivery bad!
The game was what I wanted and it is to be a Christmas present for a family with 2 children who love words. I am just glad that nobody who also wanted a Scrabble game came to my door before I found it. The unwrapped box was left outside my front door despite me being in and nobody knocking; a window being left open with a sign left for delivery in case I was out. The delivery comment was – handed to recipient.

Excellent gift for anyone that loves words
I play this game with my children and grandkids and they love it. You get everything you need except for a notepad and pencil . This item is a third of the price of the traditional game and the only difference is the colour! Highly recommended.
This Scrabble came in a sturdy box and was delivered the next day. It is good quality and I really don’t know why some reviews say negative things. The board is blue rather than the original vintage green, but the main picture shows this! The board is strong and not flimsy as some reviewws say. Thank goodness I went ahead and ordered – plenty of positive , pleased customers. The letters are good quality and the draw string bag is nice quality (turquoise rather than green but no problem) We are taking it with us on holiday . Thank seller – very pleased.
Scrabble- what a classic !
We bought this as a Christmas gift for our tech mad son.. he actually enjoys this game and finding obscure words he thinks we’ve never heard of ! We also use it as a practical tool to help with his weekly spellings homework.

Scrabble is such a classic game that any board game lover is bound to have it in their cupboard. We finally added it to ours & it became the best game played over the Christmas period. It’s easy to pick up & fun to play. We also loved the addition of the app that helps with scoring! All in all, a brilliant game!
An interesting take on traditional Scrabble
Trap tiles is a good version of scrabble you play the standard he but you can leav traps tiles to swing the game in your favour. It makes it a bit more interesting that your run of the mill Scrabble. Definitely recommended for a competitive family game night.
An interesting twist on a traditional board game
Scrabble has been around for a long time and there are 100% people who have gotten bored (or board haha) of the schematics, possibly trying their own new rules as a way to change it up a little. This variation does just that. It’s a little confusing on first go but like any board game, you’ll get there.
The quality is really good & feels like a premium board game. The tiles feel high quality and no complaints with sharp edges or roughness.
The traps are the new addition. They add a little risk to placing words down rather than just the risk of someone getting the triple word bonus piggybacking from your word. It turns quite the simple board game into more of a strategic one.

Yes this was cheaper than usual but the quality isn’t great. The tiles feel lighter than the other Scrabbles I have played. The board colours seem like a cheap copy and it’s thin and rather flimsy. Yes you can still play the game. But pay extra if you wanna play this same game in year to come.

This is a good game for older children at least 10 plus. The quality of the game is good. They could have provided more letters. Not many rules to be followed. Arrived well packaged. Its a good game to play with the family. Not travel friendly. Would recommend it.
Brilliant board game for upto 4 players
Brought back memories of my school days when my grandmother introduced us to the game. I like that is not very intense or time bound, so you can have a comfortable conversation with your friends while playing the game.

I bought one for a friend and then when I bought a camper van I needed one for myself, I was but nervous it was so small but you soon get the hang of it and the fact it is smaller disappears.

Classic game great for kids

I bought this for glamping. I was so worried by the reviews which I read after I had ordered it. I received a perfectly acceptable board game. Yes the box is more flimsy than they were in the 80’s and 90’s but the world has changed. We didn’t receive any score cards but we just use paper. We’ve had so much fun using this and we’ve even kept playing at home. It was a bargain price too

Good quality, original version of Scrabble. The image on the order was misleading though as showed the original box design but that wasn’t what arrived. Still a great game to play
Inexpensive!
It has the necessary bits and pieces and instruction leaflet, but I cannot imagine the board will outlive the letter tiles, bag and tile holders as it does not seem very robust. The plus point is it’s relatively inexpensive and will keep us amused for the foreseeable future!

I was reluctant to pay the prices some companies asking for the standard scrabble set but was worried this price might reflect its quality. No need to worry! Good quality for frequent use by kids and grandkids. Ideal for home/family use.

Scrabble – A decent, friendly priced version of a classic game. Our house is overflowing with both traditional board and digital games. So it was a little strange that we were lacking Scrabble. I must say that I’ve never been attracted to it much, mostly because my counterparts in the family (without being specific) read and write in different quantities and thus have a more limited set of vocabulary while others are sesquipedalians – which happens tube one of my favourite Scrabble words, good for 26 points. So the thing with this game it that you’ll need to find a partner of equal skill. Having said that it’s really good for our youngest as well to work and test his spelling even thought game is advised for children aged 10+.
This a poorly presented set that includes 120 letter tiles, four racks, a letter bag and instructions. The box is fairly sturdy which is good for storage and the letter bag is really helpful as well. However the racks are plastic, and the letters are made of plastic as well and hollow on the underside. Other than some of the other reviews here the board isn’t small; 36cm on each side, neither are the letter pieces too small. I’m just comparing it to the decades-old Scrabble set that we keep at out second home that is made of wood elements and really nice by comparison. Still I can’t complain too much given the 14 we paid for this, the educational value for the children and that it fills a family board game playing need (which I think is one of the best ways to spend your time in this digital age).
A positive review for travel Scrabble
I don’t generally write reviews but I honestly felt a bit sorry for this Travel edition of Scrabble for the amount of abuse it’s getting which I genuinely don’t think it deserves despite reading all the negative reviews I bought the Travel Scrabble anyway and I am glad that I did because it meets with my expectations. It is what it says it is – a compact game board. It is literally a cute and tiny version of the well loved Scrabble. Yes the board doesn’t fold in half but it is already tiny so I don’t see why it would need to fold any smaller. The board also has the plastic grid to place your letters which without I just don’t think would function at that tiny size. The people complaining about the fact the letters would fall out if you were playing in the carmaybe you need to invent magnetic Scrabble? I also saw complaints about the quality of the little bag to keep the letters inyes it is plastic and has one of those press seals but as long as you take care of your things there shouldn’t be a problem with it lasting. It also comes with tiny versions of the letters stand! If this tiny Scrabble (see pic for size comparison to my hand (I am petite)) isn’t compact enough for you you could just ditch the box and take the tiny board and tiny bag of letters with you.
TLDR: for 12 I don’t think you can go wrong with this teeny tiny version of Scrabble. It’s cute and functional!
Quality is as expected
I bought the scrabble to help my grandchildren with their spelling, adding some fun learning at the same time. Their parents can play scrabble with them too. All family fun.
Far to fiddly
Thought the squares would of fitted into the board so the letters dont slide about. The squares are a bit to small, I know it’s a travel one but I wouldn’t be taking it away.
Good game for kids
My sons favourite game out of his birthday presents. Easy enough to play even for little ones (provided they can read) due to the ‘easy’ side of the board. This is a game my boy brings out to play over and over again. Helps them with their words too so I like the educational aspect. Would recommend
New look
I’ve played this game all my life. The only thing I would say about this version is that the tiles aren’t the vivid honey yellow they used to be and are lighter which means they easily shift around if you turn the board.
Good game but tiles missing
This game is great had this for my children, however bought this again for my grandchildren and was so disappointed to find there were tiles missing – 1 U and one T this spoiled the game as my grandson needed the U to complete his word ! Having to now find a tile with a U on it from somewhere? Feel let down my Mattel .
This version is playable, but a bit too tiny. You have to use tweezers and a magnifying glass to play. My friend and I had a lot of fun, but he’s an electrician, so he’s used to fiddling with tiny parts. Imagine someone with big hands. I had to assist him with reading the numbers.
I was a bit saddened to see a PVC bag instead of a fabric one and also the board should fold in half and be bigger. Durability is also a concern. Another thing, it’s so easy to lose the prices.. BEWARE!!!
letters easy to read

Brilliant game
I have one of the original Scrabble games,, when my daughter visits me sometimes, we end up playing Scrabble and try to outwin each other, so I thought I’d get her a Scrabble game for herself and we can play each other at her home when I visit her.

I like every aspect of this item. Amazon should do more to weed out the wheat from the chaff where this product is concerned. For starters, remove the photograph of the fool with the giant hand. I can categorically state that the item his hand is dwarfing is not this particular item. I recommend this item wholeheartedly to all of you Scrabble lovers out there. Enjoy.
Great game for price
Great game and quality is fine. Seen a lot of reviews moaning about the quality of the board and pieces but they are fine. It’s a fairly sturdy piece of folding card and does the job. For the 15 price couldn’t ask for more. If you want a quality board and wooden playing letters then you are going to have to pay the associated prices. The game has provided some hours of fun in lockdown 🙂
What I expected
I almost didn’t buy this because of the reviews – some people seem to have received very thing woads – mine was just as I was expecting it to be. I wouldn’t say it’s the greatest quality but it is perfectly adequate and the whole family have enjoyed playing the game. The packaging is quite big in comparison to the contents and that’s why I didn’t;t give it a high score for travelling. I think if you wanted a travel set you’d be better getting a specific one.

Main reason for adding my review was to counteract the negative older reviews (2017/2018) when either there was an issue with the quality of this product or the negative reviews have been written by bots trying to steer buyers towards higher priced alternatives.
I’ve purchased this product in Dec 2020 and I can confirm that there is nothing wrong with it. We have played it on and off for the last 2 months, and the product is still good as new. Good quality materials (board, pieces, bag) – it’s certainly no frills, but it will get the job done. The paper manual is a bit flimsy and there is no dictionary, but we get our info via smartphone apps anyway (official scrabble dict). I recommend this product for anyone willing to give the game of Scrabble a go.

Excellent to help children learn, no good for “thickies” and can’t be worn as tights. Does that answer Amazons request to comment on THICKNESS & SHEERNESS! However, EXCELLENT value for money!
Scrabble
After using my last one for so long it was faded and when this one arrived I couldn’t believe how colourful it was, and everything so clear. Unfortunately due to present restrictions I have been unable to play a game yet.
It was delivered on time and well packed. Would recommend.
Great family game
Nicely made.
Classic game and really helps my children think about new words, spellings and using a dictionary. In this age of too much technology its a fantastic and needed.
If I could make any suggestions it would be to perhaps make the board and pieces magnetic to keep them in place easier. However I’m am going to do this myself as even though the board is quite thick, the pieces are very light and tend to be knocked quite easily.

Good game, bad delivery packaging
Standard Scrabble game, exactly as described. Only gripe is that it wasn’t packaged when it arrived so corners of the box were damaged and I had to really carefully remove shipping labels etc before gifting it.

I played scrabble a lot as a child and really look forward to introducing my kids to scrabble. The only slight disappointment is that the board is just flat and doesn’t have the lovely depressions for the letters to fit in like the original. Otherwise this is a really lovely game.
Happy with the product but appalled by the packaging – basically just the game box with a massive postage label stuck on it!! This is a xmas gift!!! Absolutely ridiculous. Am also glad my son wasn’t at the door or nearby when one of his gifts arrived with no box or package to hide it! Not impressed.

I would score it 5stars but ths only reason is because its not the original, however, your not paying original price either. My board is good, everything is fine. Its good value for the price.
No score shee
So I bought this expecting it to be the original brand but it’s not. That may just have been my oversight when purchasing and since it has all letters, trays and the correct bonuses on the board I don’t mind. However there I no scoring sheet which makes taking score (an important part of the game as everyone knows) much more tricky. Overall the original option was good, I just don’t understand why it as too difficult for them to include a pad of score sheets.

Packaging was perfect. Would be fine travelling – I have always taken a thick piece of flat cardboard to put underneath as anything with a folded board needs it. Counters and counter holders are a great size and drawstring bag just right. Great price and quality product.

This is just a brilliant game for family night in – we brought it away to a rented house in the country last month and honestly played it for hours on end. it was just great fun!

Bought for my nephew who is very into his board games. Have been told he’s picked it up easy enough and has been enjoying playing and learning new words etc
A classic game with a modern refresh
Not played this for ages and the other half decided he wanted to buy it. Couldn’t find it in stock anywhere local so ordered with Prime delivery and arrived in less than 24 hours. The graphics make it took more modern but it still has the retro charm with the little plastic tile stands and the felt bag for the tiles. Good value and quick delivery.
So I have a bone to pick with this game, why are only some of the letters underlined to say which was round. The n is underlined but not the u so when we used it the first time we got stuck at the end as u’s had been used as n’s before realised only one was underlined….. Not the best idea for child use
My wife loves this game and we’ve never had a set of our own. I ordered what i thought was the original game from ebay but it turned out to be a flimsy travel version (with a random lower-case ‘j’ in the tile bag?!).
This version, however, is the real deal. Solid board that folds in half, sturdy tiles and full size racks. There’s no score pad although i’m not sure they still provide those anyway?
The ETA for delivery stated 14th May but we received it today (4th May) so very impressed with the delivery time. Arrived in perfect condition and bought for a very reasonable price considering i’ve seen the same set going for around 50-60 elsewhere!!
Overall, very happy and would recommend!
Sucker for old skool
Maybe I’m old fashioned but I much preferred to board that you could slot the tiles into. This game has to be put on a sturdy surface because the tiles will move around if you even slightly move the board. It’s a shame but that’s the only negative to this purchase. All the other parts are fantastic.
Scrabble as I remember it.
Bought at Christmas as a spur of the moment thing but not used. I probably last played this 30 years ago with the kids. I’m glad that I bought this as, due to social distancing, the wife and me have rediscovered the game.
The board is cardboard, there’s a cloth bag for the letters which are made of plastic, as are the letter racks.
This is the standard Scrabble set, just like I remember from years ago. It’s a good quality product well worth the price.

I’ve taken it on multiple flights and to lots of hotel since getting it and it’s so cute, handy, and compact for travel. With the grid not he board, you can play in planes and cars without the tiles sliding too!

We bought this scrabble games as we thought it would be bigger in size and the letters would actually clip on. The size is ok to put in a suitcase but would need to be kept flat when playing.

My daughter had Junior Scrabble, then got this original one for her birthday. Good quality board, tiles and holders. Can’t fault it. Have seen a definite improvement in the words she has been using too, only after a few games. Buy it, you won’t regret it.

Ordered this because I moved away from home and needed to adopt my own Scrabble board game. This arrived exactly as expected and in perfect condition. I got Scrabble back in my life, so quite frankly there’s nothing to complain about.
Keeps your mind ale
Love scrabble as a family game. This is a replacement from the years old one we had. As the kids have flown the nest my husband and I play together to keep our minds alert snd the grandchildren join us too.
Value for money
Board and box feel lower quality than the set my parents have had for years (box feels like it’s made out of a cereal box, no decent backing on the board) saying that those the tiles feel more substantial and it comes with a nice sturdy drawstring bag for the tiles to go in. For the 13 ish I paid for it I really cant complain! Time will tell how well the box will last though!
A new look, but still a classic.
It’s scrabble. What more can I say?! Well, this has updated packaging, and a restyled board, but it is the same at its’ core. If you love words, and board games, you will still love this.
Just brillia
Bought this for my six year old grandson and he said “Gran, I love this game”! Deffo a big hit and of course helping him with his spelling. Absolute winner. Perfect condition and received in record time.
The box contains a colourful board that folds in half to pack away, an instruction leaflet, 4 plastic letter tile holders and all the tiles in a little draw string bag. It has cardboard inserts to keep everything in place inside. You just need to add a pencil and paper for keeping score ( or use your phone ) I bought the family friendly scrabble dictionary too which is a must to keep the game fair if you don’t already have one. Believe me…people get very competitive! It will stop any arguments! If the word is not in the book…sorry for you! Haha.

Not really sure why there are so many bad reviews for this. The board arrived today and having checked it over apprehensively, I am relieved to say I am very happy with my purchase! Ordered the full size board on Prime Day for 12 which was good value, and the quality of the board seems good to me.
I have a feeling the poor reviews are for the travel version of the game which I cannot speak for… However if you plan to buy the full size board sold by Amazon (not a third party), I can assure you this is a top quality item.
Fiddly letters that do not clip o
This was smaller than expected. I thought I was buying a replacement for my old travel scrabble with clip in letters (pegs at each of the 4 corners of the letters). Instead the board has cells for each of the letters. They are a bit fiddly.
However, everything works and if you are not actually travelling on a jolting sloping something then you will be fine.
It is certainly small, compact and does the job.
With this version of the game my scrabble scores have not improved or got worse 🙂
Great fun and entertainment for me and my girlfriend. We used to be hectic Twister players but now that we’ve entered that boring stage of our relationship where we look forward to a good wholesome game of scrabble. No Dirty words allowed! We’re desperate to find another couple to join in our sessions. Our next upcoming hobby will be knitting.

It's Scrabble!
What can I say, I mean, it’s scrabble – great game. Good quality tiles and board. Only negative comment would be wasted space in box with cardboard spacers – I’m sure board could be folded differently to use less cardboard.
All great except one thing
Only a small issue but must be the Arabic version as although the primary language is English, on the back of the box is doubled up in Arabic etc… possible reason for cheaper price. Doesn’t interfere with the gameplay but just as a FYI
Having read some worrying previous reviews (bent boards etc), I went ahead and ordered this anyway. Luckily, mine turned out perfect! A solid board which stays flat and good pieces which don’t feel cheaply made. I’ve spent many a happy hour playing Scrabble at home.
There are no scoring boards in mine (I’ve had sets before with ‘slider’ scoreboards), although a pen and paper do just as well 🙂
Only, I wish Mattel would make some (affordable) wooden Scrabble sets like the original ones until the plastic ones – they were such a pleasure to play with!!

Well value for the cost .As we have played scrabble for years .But alas lost our old board on holiday .For us as my husband partially sighted would have preferred the old board were the plastic tiles fitted in ,but make a nice present .
Classic and great game
Scrabble is an old, but classic and great game. This set is the original board, suitable for up to four players. Comes with a little green bag for all the tiles. All you will need is a pencil and some paper to record your scores, as my box didn’t come with any.
Great overall classic game. Fast delivery. However, product could have been improved by having ridges on the board, which the scrabble letters could slot into, as currently the board is flat and smooth, so the letters could move easily on the board.
Good for home use. Not good for travel use, due to smooth board surface.
Nice little scrabble set. The letters bag is like a stiff velour or something similar, quite cute. The board is as expected, sturdy just like the old ones. Happy with the quality.
Purchased the board game from the Mattel seller, and (contrary to what some reviews said) this is definitely the original, authentic Scrabble game. It seems that the reviews from 3rd-party sellers get mixed with the actual Mattel listing – so be very aware that some 3rd party sellers might be selling a counterfeit product.
Anyway, this board game is a classic, and is well worth having in the home. The board is folded into quarters for storage (it comes as one piece – not a jigsaw puzzle style board like what someone else said), and is of good quality. The scrabble letters are plastic, as are the letter holders. The game also comes with instructions and a letter bag, but doesn’t come with a notepad for score-keeping. I think you can’t go wrong with purchasing the authentic Mattel scrabble set, as you know what quality you’re going to get.

Everything (including the rules) were included in the game and everything was in good order. After it arrived, my husband and I sat down and played two games back to back – it ws awesome 🙂

Modern version of the classic
Great modern version of a classic.
Trying to get the kids to sit down and play a board game can be difficult but this is a family favourite. It’s a great way of getting the kids to practice their spelling and increase their vocabulary. Dictionary definitely required to stop arguments!
Its exactly the same design as the classic version of the game which everyone remembers and loves!
New isn't always better!
The game itself is great, I love Scrabble. In this new version you get plastic tiles which don’t feel as nice as wooden ones, and the board itself feels a bit flimsy. Even the pouch is a bit on the cheap-feeling side of things. I got what I paid for, I guess… I don’t play too often, so I think it will last, but if you are a frequent player and need something sturdy, I would say spring for the deluxe version or the nostalgia version, I reckon those would be more durable.
I owned a much older version of Scrabble and the quality was far higher than this build.
The board itself is lightweight compared to the heavy pressed card they used to make it from. You can see this in one of the Amazon picture itself if you zoom in. The board isn’t quite sitting flat on the table because it’s so lightweight.
The design of the board is also lacking in that the tiles don’t quite fit in the squares. And again you can see this problem in one of the Amazon pictures if you zoom in. Notice how carefully they’ve spaced out the tiles because the squares on the board are quite large?
After that as many other reviewers have pointed out, the included literature has been dramatically cut down to a single page pamphlet.
Unfortunately this version is the only affordable one out there. The “deluxe” versions receive poor reviews despite being many times more expensive.
Endless enjoyme
I had not played Scrabble for years, but the rules were easy to understand and I got back into the strategy very quickly. The board is easy to see, the letters very clear and well made, and the game is wonderful to play with people of all ages. Maybe a turntable would be my next purchase in order to make it easier for all the players. Although I have not tried it, I would imagine that four players would be the maximum as there are only four tile racks.
