Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI bought this to extend WiFi coverage to our back garden. Installation was straightforward having installed the Cat 6 weatherproof cable and mounted the unit to a downpipe with cable ties. The unit is supplied with white ties but I used my own black ones to match the downpipe. The unit is big and designed to either plug directly into the mains or use Power Over Ethernet. If you use POE then you either need a compatible POE switch (and not all POE switches are compatible) or a POE injector (not supplied). I used the recommended TP Link injector which is substantial and works well. In use the device was easy to install using the Deco app which detected it on my network and automatically integrated it with my existing three Deco units. Performance in the garden is excellent and provides full video streaming performance up to 30m away – 500 Mb down and 100Mb up according to Ookla speed test even at the extremes of the garden. The same network ID is now available inside and out and switching from unit to unit is automatic. On the downside I may have to paint it black!

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy extern as l addition to Deco system

I don’t know why there are so many reviews moaning about the lack of a PoE injector – these are never supplied with PoE devices because in so many situations they will be connected to an ethernet PoE switch. If a PoE injector were supplied with every PoE device there would be a high proportion of these units where the PoE injector would just be surplus electronic stuff.

The description of the product makes it extremely clear that this device is powered by PoE, and it would be crazy if it were not for a device of this type, giving the user great flexibility in where it is located.

So the answer is – provide your PoE source, whether an injector or a switch, which can be purchased in many different sizes and at many different costs. Then you have maximum flexibility of where you locate the device, whether on a farm building or an internal ceiling of your house.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersSo disappointed with this to-link the power cable drops out of its connection socket with the slightest of movement of the unit & one of the 3 Ethernet connections has the same problem and is now unusable

This is a great device, with very good signal coverage and speeds. the LED’s can be scheduled to turn off at night which is a nice touch. However the options to configure this device via the WebGUI are very limited. For example you cannot have a 5ghz ssid and a different ssid for 2.4ghz. Also it was larger than i expected.

4.0 out of 5 stars Larger than expected, limited config options via webgui

I replaced my Google wifi nodes with tp-link decos, and have one X50 as the ‘primary’ and a few cheaper M5s connected with ethernet cable in other parts of the house for e.g. the tv/switch etc.

I found the tp link wifi nodes to be very easy to install and setup. Very happy.
