Arrived quickly and easy to setup. Has a mobile app as well to control the router. A great product, just what we needed instead of paying for costly installation of fibre and monthly contract.

It is quite straight forward to set up, however, the instruction booklet makes it seem as if it would be more difficult and tells you not to ‘rudely’ open the cover for the SIM card slot.

I bought the 4G dongle hoping to use it as a connection backup in an Asus router.
It was a gamble: it wasn’t listed in the list of compatible dongles (all very old and very slow) and… it works perfectly.
If you are looking for a 4G dongle for an Asus router this is the best option.

Inserted a SIM card I already had so did not use the SIM card that came with the dongle. I plugged into a MacBook Pro laptop and was up and running quickly. Really easy. I am not technical and had all sorts of bother with the previous dongle I purchased which was a different make to this. This feels much better quality than the previous one and was the same price. I would highly recommend this dongle to people.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersMy friend moved to a flat that didnt have broadband access. In the middle of town?!?
Never heard of Mifi. Found this beauty. Very easy to set up with S m art y sim card. She runs netflix and a kindle and has had no trouble!

Just a note about setting up S mart y card. Which was a little harder.
Activate online, so set it up on a laptop is best. Choose your plan. Then it can take a little while for that to kick in and wifi to work.

When it says text sent, thats online on your sim account. It wont appear on the screen.

    Hope that helps.

Wish i had known about mifi before renewing contract with VM. Would have save 25 a month! Im swapping in a years time.

    Hope that helps….

I bought this little Hotspot from my Caravan. Paired with a data sim from a well-known provider, it provides the portable wifi the family needs without battering my phone’s data allowance. The Wi-Fi bubble is good if not excellent, but in a caravan or similar, you don’t want it broadcasting too far. It is simple to set up, and easy to manage via a browser, and I have had no problems after a summer of solid use. At the price, it is a solid buy, recommended. 5 Stars.

Speedy delivery. So easy to set up. Non stop full signal since set up in an area I’ve had trouble connecting using my phone. Really pleased I installed this & at such value for money I highly recommend it!

I struggled a bit to get started but that was because I hadn’t read the instructions properly. I am away from my home wifi quite a lot and always worry about running out of data on my phone so this gadget will be extremely useful as an extra source. The Smarty sim works well but I am exploring other sims and may try using a ‘3’ data sim that lasts for 12 or 24 months and then simply be replaced with a new one when it runs out rather than having a monthly deal.

We (family of 5) wanted internet access while we were on holiday in Turkey. This provided exactly that. Even when we were at the beach. We purchased a local Turkcell data Sim card with 200g load on board and it lasted longer than the 2 week holiday.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersHandy size, I found a European data sim card that worked well. No losing signal strength at peek times. The UK card that I activated appeared to work until I got to Europe then the technical department instructions let me down as they always refer to the ” mobile phone” open setting etc. Even though I told them it was a personal WiFi.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI tried this Product after using Huwei, Tenda and TP link Profucts cat4/4G/LTE this morning.
I so impress with its speed it can give. I have a three days sim and I achieved an amazing nearly 64 mbps download speed which I was missing.
So far seem less connectivity. No drops of calls/ Voice/ picture when connected to work laptop on MS teams. Others gave me trouble and with Huwei I couldn’t connect to MS TEAMS.
Impressive user interfaces including Reset and WPS button outside so don’t have to open the cover and take battery out.
I reckon great product in its category and price range.
I was considering an expensive cat 11 product from TO LINK which is priced arround 150, if this didn’t work.
    2. Unlocked to all networks, do you don’t have to stick with the promotional / complementary sim provided.
    3. Battery and back cover is fixed. Which is great asthetic in my opinion as you are saved with opening the cover over and over as the case has been when connection used to drop with other devices then I had to remove the battery and reinsert or use the reset button provided inside the cover .
Great product. I will give a 5 star.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product . Simple and faster then any other in Category

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersFirst off don’t bother wasting you money on the smarty sim as that company it stupid and there network don’t soir half the time. We was not even able to get the smarty card to even work due to that company is so bad.

The battery life is about 2-4 hours from my testing the last 24 hours.

I can confirm ee, bt, ee data only sims work perfectly. When the other sims arrive will update this.

We have order a few other sims cards to test out as ee unlimited data 40 a month on pay as you go and then you need a bundle minimum bundle is 5. So your looking at 45 a month.

Golden Review Award: 22 From Our UsersThe summary first; if you’re away from home and need a non-demanding quick internet solution that won’t break the bank, this combined with the included Smarty sim-card will do the trick. Just be aware that the battery life isn’t amazing (six hours in my experience out of the box) and the device sometimes needs restarting to perform optimally.

Now to the longer breakdown. I needed an internet solution that I could move around with me from place to place, and after looking around I landed on the ZTE Mobile Hotspot. 4G was a worry, but 5G models were far too cost prohibitive to consider at the time of writing. However, with a sim that allows tethering like the Smarty one included, you may be able to use a modern smart phone to fulfill the same functions (if not better) than the ZTE.

A few reviews I looked at claimed the setup was confusing, but I found it was simple if you followed the instructions – sometimes very literally. An example of this was the sim card itself; the diagram in the book shows exactly the way it needs to face without telling you explicitly. It may be a struggle to get the sim card inside with how recessed the slot is, but a pair of tweezers or other tool should do the trick. It was similarly easy to activate the included sim card, and within twenty minutes of setting up the billing for it (and restarting) the device was functional and I was away.

Speed wise I tend to get around 2.5MB/s at its highest – not zippy but I’m used to lower end broadband packages. Ping also tends to be higher than I’m used to when playing the occasional game, even when sitting right next to the device I feel it, but if you’re not in a need for ultra fast response times you’ll be alright. Youtube works fine at most times of the day even if the quality jumps around and you can do things like sending emails or browsing the web with no troubles. Just keep your expectations tempered when dealing with 4G.

The interface for the ZTE is also fine, allowing you to customize and adjust certain parameters to your liking, such as port forwarding or modifying the SSID password. Nothing too fancy.

Battery life is the only criticism I have with the device. If I took it with me to another room to sleep I’d wake up to it being fully drained, and it takes about four hours to hit a full charge even when plugged into a USB wall adapter for a phone. If you’re going long distances, need it for longer than about six hours or don’t have access to a wall outlet, either turn it off when it’s not in use or use a portable charger.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI bought this to go on holiday with when we were outside of EU roaming and wanted to use local SIM cards. It was good, got a good signal once the sim was registered into the network. Very addictive mole to use – literally put the card on and turn it on and you’re away. The flaw is the SIM card slot – you would expect to push the card in and feel it ‘click’ but that mechanism either isn’t present or doesn’t work so the SIM card was forever coming away from the contact and logging off. I fixed it easily with some sellotape too strap the sim cover down and had no further issues – even when carrying it around in my jeans pocket when we were out. I can’t remember what the box says about the battery life, but I think we got about 8 hours out of it when in a decent signal area. It takes a couple of hours to fully recharge, so just left it plugged in when I’m out accommodation and used battery only when out and about. Overall this is good and I will use it again on future travels.

Golden Review Award: 34 From Our UsersPlease note this review is for the ZTE MF920U, CAT4/4G LTE Mobile Wi-Fi device and not any of the other ZTE models you can find on Amazon. Secondly, I am not a computer / technology nerd, so my review is based on my experience of setting up this portable hotspot device and is meant to help others who may consider themselves less technically inclined avoid some of the pitfalls I encountered.
I initially bought this device as I had recently acquired a general use SIM (i.e. one can use in a mobile phone for making calls, texting and having data for accessing the internet) from a well known brand to use with my old portable hotspot or in my Samsung Galaxy S6 Lite tablet. Sadly this general use SIM didn’t work in my unlocked devices, so I decided to buy this ZTE device as it offered a 4g/LTE service. However, I then discovered the general sim didn’t work in it either (i.e. it wouldn’t give me internet access when I tried to link my Amazon Kindle, Windows 10 laptop or Samsung tablet to it). Further research and contact with the helpful folks at the general SIM provider led to a suggestion I should change the APN settings in the ZTE device but this also proved unsuccessful.
Lesson 1: Use an appropriate ‘data only’ SIM (that for me meant one that offers a 4g/LTE service which is what this particular ZTE model and my Samsung need). Funnily enough, Smarty offer a ‘data only’ option for the free Smarty SIM provided with this device!
Assuming you can get a good coverage from Smarty in your area (this can be checked on their website) and before you can use it in this device, you need to create an account with Smarty and select a data only sim package via the Smarty website.
Once you have created an account you then need to activate the SIM which took just 10 minutes (but you are warned it could take up to two hours).
Lesson 2: This ZTE device uses a ‘micro’ SIM (the Smarty SIM card comes in a standard size but it is easy to punch out a micro or nano sized SIM from it using the perforations provided). Do not try to fit a nano SIM in the device as you will probably have difficulty extracting it when you discover it doesn’t work).
Lesson 3: The activated Smarty SIM worked first time in the ZTE device and there was no need to change any APN or other settings. An Internet connection was immediately available on my laptop, kindle and tablet once I looked to see what wifi networks were available. Please note that I am not advocating that only a Smarty SIM will work in this device, as I suspect that other 4g/LTE data only SIMS offered by other mainstream providers will probably work too, but after my experiences, I would be a little cautious about trying to use a more ‘general’ sim that offers phone and text services in addition to data.
So now the ZTE is up and running smoothly, and my stress levels have receded, I am finding this ZTE device a delight to use. It is still early days, but so far so good. I am getting a good signal where I live with reasonably fast download speeds that are good enough to live stream television programmes, etc.
In Summary: I hadn’t realised how careful one needs to be when selecting a mobile wifi pocket hotspot and pairing it up with an appropriate SIM, so I hope this review is helpful if you are considering buying the ZTE MF920U, CAT4/4G LTE Mobile Wi-Fi device.
