Brings back the fun in photography
Way back when I would use Polaroids to proof work before committing to more expensive medium format film, whilst I still shoot MF my Polaroid cameras gradually fell into disuse.
Instax appeared on the scene but by then I was shooting more and more digitally so it kind of passed me by, until now.
A few months ago my wife came across 20 boxes of expired Instax square film in Boots the Chemist for a 1 a box, not one to walk away from a bargain she bought the lot and stashed them away in my film fridge where they lay forgotten.
A couple of weeks ago whilst making an inventory of what I had I decided that I’d like to give them a try, a quick search on the usual second hand sites produced no cameras for sale so I bought this for sale, a bit of a risk as I wasn’t sure the expired film would be usable.
I needn’t have worried, I took the camera out last week and every shot came out a treat, perfectly exposed and in focus, I put that down to the camera’s ease of use and simplicity, point, shoot and instant satisfaction.
My only regrets are that I didn’t buy one years ago and that I should have waited a couple more weeks until Prime day when it was heavily discounted.
C’est la vie.
Aesthetic but expensive
Probably only bought this for the aesthetic, I love the terracotta colour. Film replacement is very expensive it’s practically 1 per shot. Its teaching me to be more thoughtful with my photography, and it does require patience and skill.
I wish there was a memory card function to retain the footage but at the same time, this is made to be in the moment.
Love the camera, was bought as a gift! The quality is as you’d expect with Polaroids, the test ones we took were in front of a bright window so it didn’t really pick up the background but the picture quality is great! Can’t wait to use this when travelling!
Great fun camera
Bought for my teenage daughter and she loves it. I knew what to expect from reading information on the camera, don’t expect great quality photos. But lovely “old style” photos. I also bought it at a great price. So overall very pleased with the purchase.
We bought this for our wedding for guests photos. Overall happy with the quality. Not so good with further away shots (doesn’t focus) but this was expected to an extent as we appreciate the Polaroid outcome. The photos are fun which is what we wanted! Do be careful, the shoot button is easy to accidentally press so some wasted shots.
I bought this camera for my boyfriend as a gift and he loves it. It feels really special and always comes out on special occasions, birthdays, parties, with family etc. The film isn’t cheap so that’s why we save it for important moments, but not always!
The colour of this is so nice and a bit different to other polaroid cameras out there. It’s also really easy to use, feels nice in your hands and the pictures come out great. There’s definitely a learning curve to using a polaroid camera and it might take you a couple of tries the first time you use it, but don’t be discouraged if your first photo doesn’t turn out the way you expected. Make sure you read the instructions properly for both the camera and the film, maybe watch a YouTube tutorial and you’ll figure it out.
The photos look lovely and are really nice to give as small gifts, party favours or to use as decorations or in scrapbooks.
Very easy to load and use (as with all the Instax cameras). This uses what is effectively the classic Square Format of 6×6 (anyone who has used 120 or 127 film will remember that). I was able to take a couple of shots of subjects I have known for a long time, and this camera shoots with a frame that is a very close match for the old Kodak Brownie series (the 127 versions) and the picture was a match to an old 6×6 contact print (from the late 50s) and also (surprisingly) an old Instamatic print from the 60s. As a quick snapshot camera this is great, if you want to try and duplicate really old square format pictures (same place different time) it is perfect.
Amazing
Absolutely love this camera, very easy to use and picture quality is perfect. It takes you back to old school polaroid and everyone loves shaking the pics while developing. The settings are simple and nothing is too complicated. Camera feels very well made but is still lightweight to carry around
It’s worth the money. Pictures come out so clear in the day and very clear at night too. If you’re looking to get started in these types of cameras the Sq6 is the way to go.

After re-using my Instax mini 8 during lockdown I was looking to buy another polaroid camera but this time a square. I knew that this came at a highly recommended stance and I bought it on discount during Black Friday deals I should think. The camera quality itself is amazing. It holds up pretty well and the shoulder strap is of the best quality you can find. The mirror on the front of the polaroid works very well for ‘selfies’ and overall I would recommend. However, it is to note that this camera ideally isn’t for beginners. As a photography student of 4 years I know that there is always a new setting or two to learn, and with this camera that is very much true. You have to get to know the camera and that means wasting 1 or 2 packs of film sometimes. but here is the rundown.
Landscape mode- Only use during the daytime. This mode instantly turns your polaroids dark when taken at night time. Polaroids at the end of the day are really only meant for close range photography.
selfie mode- great works very well, keep a steady hand.
Automatic- Does the job but normally over-exposes the image (meaning it is more pale than anything)
Macro- I have not personally used this mode yet, I cannot make a remark.
double exposure- I also have not used but make sure you know what you are doing
L/D- these are the modes I most use. Normally if I am outside on a sunny day I will take the polaroid using the D mode as it darkens the image a little and keeps it from over exposing. I use the Light in the opposite situation.
Overall I would avoid taking polaroids in the dark completely, but that is with any polaroid camera. would 100% recommend.
Love the pictures it takes! Super cute and had a vintage feel to it. You can bring it anywhere! Whether it be the beach or just at home! Changing the flash also gives a range of colors you can play off of! 10/10 would recommend!
LOVE THIS! Love the colour (I got grey), love the look and the size! I’d say looking at these reviews are not as good as the YouTube reviews. Go there now if you want to know if this camera is for you. That helped me tonnes!
Brill camera
Brilliant camera.
dont expect digital SLR type photos, except it for what it is and you’ll release its better than most poloroid out there.
buy with the finite brown case – lovely.
Great gif
Bought this camera for my niece and she loved it. Very easy to use and super fun. I preferred the square version as the photographs are larger with a nice frame around it to write something with a marker.
The camera is a great fun piece of kit but it isn’t as easy to use as I had imagined, the view finder is actually very far off the real composition. The camera itself is easy to navigate and use but you will have to get used to changing the settings each time you turn on the camera.
If you are someone who is getting it for fun and have never touched a camera or instant camera, I would suggest you buy an earlier Fuji model that won’t cost so much for film and batteries. This model as great as it is, takes a while to get used to and the film is very expensive you are pretty much paying around 1 each film shot. Do your research into what you want from the camera, if you won’t use the fancy traits such as the colour gels, double exposure and don’t mind having the flash never turn off then I would get the instax mini.
The camera is great as you can turn off flash and you can change settings, it’s not tiny but it’s relatively flat so can easily be put in a bag or back pack. Overall I love the camera but I’ve wasted a lot of film getting used to the composition and focus distance so hope that the film will be cheaper in the future!
My girlfriend loves this – she uses it once-in-a-while to capture that one moment of a holiday or an occasion as she’s sick of just having pics on devices. It’s rather cute as she got this Instax to see her memories IRL. Cool how there are different modes and three difffrren flash covers too to change up the hues.
User friendly with best features
I think this camera is supurb, I have quite a variety of insant film cameras from Fujifilm and other brands however, this is one of the best cameras I have purchased. Sleek design which allows photo taking to be easy with good results. Remember to utilise your features as they can really sharpen up the photo. Would recommend.
Very well built and gets a few looks from people that have only ever used their iPhone to take photos. Images are exactly what I expected. Dodgy focus, dodgy sharpness and dodgy colours. I love it. It adds atmosphere and takes me back to my early photo results 40 years ago.
