Effective in dry weather, not much gunk
This is my go-to dry lube for my drive train. If smells nice, is bio degradable, and it keeps the chain running.
It washes off when visioning the bike, which of great and doesn’t leave a mess, but this also means it has to be re-policed after a good wash or rain. Therefore, if you’re bike packing over a few days and know it’ll be wet, take it with you or use an all-weather alternative.
When it comes to chain lubes for road bikes, I’d say, this is as good as it gets and the price is right when on a deal because it does last a while m, but even if it isn’t on a deal, it’s still a fair price.
Item is fine but...
The item is fine but the driver that delivered should have also delivered a gopro 10 as a separate package… guess what, no gopro, luckily I didn’t give the code so was able to cancel. This was an Amazon delivery company not a secondary delivery service. Not good enough! Why am I paying for prime with this service.
Good chain lubrica
This is a good chain lubricant, I tried a spray one and it didn’t help with my chain still being stuck every now and again (not rolling backwards). This did. It’s been durable so far. Haven’t tried it on puddles or in rain so I don’t know how water resistant it is but should be like any other chain lubricant. Also it smells nice which is a bonus. No squeaks now either it’s smooth sounding. Good for the money. Versatile product, would buy agai
I saw a difference from the first ride
Wow, how much difference a well lubricated chain does to your ride! I had totally neglected it for over a year and after applying the dry lube I saw a 20% improvement on my ride.
Great performance chain lube. Easy to apply and degrease when needed. It doesn’t last as long as some of the other lubes so I tend to get through this a bit quicker than a wet lube, but it’s without a doubt less messy and easier to clean, also comes off in the rain which is expected with a dry lube. I’ve found a small coating works well on top of an already waxed chain to increase drivetrain performance.
Does the job for a quiet running drivechai
Used on a clean dry chain, it goes on easily and ‘sets’ quickly. Lasts well on dry rides and helps with quiet running and slick shifting gears. Easy to clean off and relube when needed. Only rated 4 stars as not used on long or wet rides yet. Will revise review if needed. Will use agai
I’ve used a lot of Muc-off products over time and bought this without thinking. I have oiled two chains now and it seems absolutely fine as a dry lube. The issue I have is with the price. This is a small bottle of lube but it is nearly 7. I don’t see how any lubricate company can justify that price. The bottle you get is much smaller than i’d imagined and although this is better from a plastic waste point of view (plastic black bottles are hardly recyclable), its not when I think I paid out 7 for this.
I was in Lidl the other day and they had some dry lube for 2.50 which came in a larger bottle. Personally I can’t tell the difference if I rub it between my fingers. I think the price of this stuff is set by the brand name so to be honest, I won’t be buying it again unless they drop the price to something more reasonable.
Another great product from Muc-Off
I have been using this oil for a while now with no issues. In the dry, it seems to have less dust pickup than other oils. In the wet, it doesn’t seem to last as long. In a way this is a good thing as really cleaning the chain is easier, soap and water seem to really do the job. I avoid riding in the wet if I can so it not lasting long isn’t an issue for me. Just remember you must re-apply after a wet ride.
So far so good
So far so good. First time I’ve used muc off lube. I mainly cycle in dry conditions so this seemed the best to try the brand. Seems ok dust and muck doesn’t seem to stick to the lube like a lot other brands. I tend to lube every other cycle each so every 100miles or so. I’ll probably try the ceramic version of brand next as one application lasts 200miles
Don’t get why there is a score of scent! Who cares what it smells like!
This is a great product but you have to use common sense and follow instructions.
Most people put too much on and apply just before a ride, I know I do….. wrong
The idea is to clean and degrease your chain, then apply a coating, work it in and let dry then apply again. Before you use your bike.
Its not designed to be reapplied over and over, you will get a build up of gunk on the gears etc.
Its also not designed to be used over many miles in various weather then just left for a week and be expected to protect your chain. Most lubes like these are sacrificial meaning they dont stick around they are not replenished from a sump etc.
A bikes gear train is a completely open system, the lube will get washed off, its primary objective is not anti corrosion, if you want that just soak your chain in engine oil. The idea of this is to lube the rollers but for a finite number of miles, then it has to be cleaned and re applied, fact.
If you understand the basic principle of open chain gear systems and do the maintenance, you will have success with this product, there is no getting away from the maintenance you have to do if you want a clean drive train and a lubed chain.
This is not a miracle product, its good at what it does, but it needs care etc in its use. And, it smells of banana milkshake…..
I use this lube on all my mountain bikes during the less-muddy parts of the year. For the winter I tend to switch to Muc-Off Wet lube which is a bit more hard-wearing. This dry lube is great though – lasts well, doesn’t attract too much dust and debris (it’s not too sticky) and keeps things running smoothly.
I tend to apply it every couple of rides – but a little goes a long way so despite being a small bottle it does last me a while.
It’s quite a light, thin consistency so can drop through the chain if you’re not careful. I spin the crank and apply a thin line of this over the moving chain – then a few more spins to ensure the lube coats all the rollers. The nozzle is nice and thin so it’s pretty easy to control the flow.
All in all – a great light weight lube and goes a long way. Top stuff!
