Excellent .... it works!
Insects love to bite me ….. this stops them! It sinks in easily and isn’t sticky. Also has no strong smell! I wear it everyday in the summer …. I’m a dog walker!
This stuff works.
Being a frequent traveller to Spain, we rely on Smidge to keep us bite free. It works!
If we forget to apply it, we know about it the next day!
Best repellent ever used
Smells nice ( lemony but not too strong), easy to apply, never got a bit so I am sure it works!

After using most products on the market, this product does what it says! No bites & you can see the mosquitoes flying near but away from you, this product is clearly not at the top of their list to taste
Repels most insects
I bought this as I’ve used it for a few years and it has always worked well.
Unfortunately this year the midges weren’t repelled as well as previously.
I don’t know whether the ingredients have changed, or the midges have become more resilient, but maybe the manufacturers should take note and address this ?
It really does work
I react badly to mosquito bites and whenever holidaying abroad, they always seem to track me down! Smidge really does seem to work. The only time I got bitten this time was in the first part of the morning before I thought to apply it!
It does have a slight odour when applying but you don’t notice it after a few minutes. Easy spray application.
A friend recommended this and I can’t thank her enough for the recommendation.
Probably the best repellant available
I travel to the Philippines and I get bitten, a lot. Deet based products work but they smell and are uncomfortable to wear. This isn’t perfect but it’s easily as effective as deet, if not better in my opinion. The smell is much better and it seems less sticky/hostile to the skin. However, it’s not perfect. I found my skin still felt hotter and uncomfortable after applying, particularly after the second application. Also if you miss a spot, even a small patch, then the mozzies will find it and bite away. But generally, its better than anything else I’ve found and it definitely limited the bites when applied diligently. I think this company also does a lotion based repellant for sensitive skin so I might try that next time as it might make the skin feel less uncomfortable.
This works for me!
I have tried many different products but, sad to say ‘I’m a mozzie magnet’ and nothing but deet has worked in the past. Deet smells horrid making skin oily, sticky and generally unpleasant, ruining whatever you’re wearing, so little chance of donning the advised light coloured clothing. Thought I’d give this a try as it’s received a number of positive reviews. Well, it is pleasant to use, easy to apply, dries quickly, smells okay and not overpowering and, it works for me. I have been using this for 10 or 12 days and have only suffered one bite and that was while pulling weeds out from between tall plants late in the afternoon . I am very happy with this product and will make sure I keep a plentiful supply of this and maybe won’t need so many antihistamine pills in future!
Worked for me
Usually use deet 50 but that has a horrible smell. Saw a tv programme re PMD and thought I’d try it . Was glad to see in a Scotland that workers in garden centres and NT places were using and selling this product which is often a good sign . Didn’t get one midgie bite whilst there but admit used impregnated bracelets and lavender oil too as “belt and braces “
This product was recommended to me at work by some of our entomologists (insect specialists) who are engaged in field work.
The product has proven to be very effective at repelling midges and biting flies.
The fact that it it contains a repellent that is not harmful to humans or materials (unlike DEET that is found in many insect repellents) means that I am confident using it on my kids.

This is amazing – I am usually eaten alive, even with DEET, but tried Smidge abroad this year as it had worked really well on Scottish midges last year. I didn’t get a single bite in Greece and there were a lot of mosquitoes about. In fairness I combined it with spraying lemon cologne /citronella around myself too, so could be the combination, but I’ll keep using it.
I use it and they still bit me, if you look to use in Highlands you actually can get there some shop same price or cheaper in Coop if you find one as Highlands not much shops, it didn’t help me to be honest, also it not that many out when i was there.
I’ve never come across Smidge before, however, after a recent trip abroad where I got bitten more times more times than ever before, I started looking for a solution and this was recommended.
Having been away again since the purchase where this could have been the case again, having applied as per instructions did not get bitten once, they day I forgot, I got a bite. Given that the only difference was having not applied Smidge, I can only assume this was what had prevented other bites.
Smells OK, seems to work well on the face of it. Very good.
Has properly stopped me getting mauled by dog fleas after the dogs have been treated and keeps mosquitoes at bay in the wetland area I live near. Mild scent, light, non greasy and easily absorbed. Found this info – Picaridin – This chemical is a synthetic version of a repellent found in pepper plants. Maximum protection is provided in formulations with 20 percent picaridin. Spray versions protect for up to 12 hours against mosquitoes and ticks, and up to eight hours against flies; lotion formulations last for up to 14 hours against mosquitoes and ticks, and up to eight hours against flies.
Picaridin vs. DEET
Because they’re the most effective repellents, people often ask which is better. Here’s a quick comparison:
DEET: It’s considered the gold standard in terms of its effectiveness. It’s been used and studied more than any other repellent in human history, though it must be handled carefully because it can damage plastics (think sunglasses, trekking pole grips, etc.)
Picaridin: Though it’s been around for fewer decades, its efficacy is considered comparable to DEET for mosquitoes and ticks, and it works better on flies. Picaridin also has minimal odor and no damaging effect on plastics and other synthetics.
