It’s a mighty piece of shovel, for sure. A great deal heavier than the generations-of-service spade necessitation sadly replaced, so if you’re a wee bit spindly, old and frail like myself that might be worth bearing in mind: it’ll dig a hole and crack through inch+ diameter tree roots with ease, but it’ll likely make you ache in places you may not have ached before.
I couldn’t bend it.
Would undoubtedly make a good murder weapon and digging under the patio to dispose of the body would be a breeze. Albeit you would likely require a long hot bath or massage afterwards.
Great for digging up the most stubborn plants . We’ve just dug up loads of invasive wild grasses with the most stubborn and strong roots! They had already broken cheaper spades but nor this one!! It made short shrift of the job + is still strong + in one piece !!
Quality tool.
Really well made tool. I already have the fork to match and it has been used for work regularly for the last few years and I expect this spade to be just as good. Nice balance and weight. The treads are a good feature too. Recommended.
Great digging angle
Bought as a gift, the recipient loved it. The spade was a really great weight the slight curved to the handle gives a lovely angle for digging. The spade is nice and sharp cut through roots without using too much effort making digging so much easier than using the old spade. Also comes with a Spear & Jackson 10 year warranty. Excellent.
good quality and solid
I have use this for over 6 months now in many different soils and it is very good, it is solid, tough and comfortable to use. I have used it in tough heavy soils and and it does well.

having read the reviews I purchased the spade which was delivered as stated. The spade however is a heavy digging spade to enable you to cut through roots, not like one customer said who stated it as light.Will now have to look again for a lighter one for turning the allotment over.
Quick del as described very sturdy build
Received earlier than del date very well packed, as described very sturdy spade, comfortable handle. Hope this space lasts unlike many I have gone through recently, usually they have bent or snapped, this one definitely feels a far superior build quality.
I brought this item as i was changing my garden,lots of digging,removing big tree roots etc,which this did easy its very light,but very strong,ive laid a path,it lifted slabs easy,then dug the garden over,which was very dry,easy uncovered lots of things as this spade does the job easy

digging to do, I’d recommend you buy this spade. I used it to dig a patio foundation in some hard stoney ground – not an easy task but this definitely helped.
Ideal
Nice and strong and light, I’m 5’3 and its not too tall for me to be able to put my bodyweight through it. I’ve used it to dig out heavy clay and lift stone paving slabs for moving and apart from a few scratches it’s as good as new.
A great spade
I’m very happy with this spade. Well made. Smooth from shaft to spade head. No sticking out rivets that catch on your hands as you dig. Good strong handle and easy to grip. Used it for digging the allotment and digging holes for fence posts. A good all round spade.
I'ts not a light spade, I suffer from athritis however the spade is easy to handle

I wanted a top class spade which I have,digging into rough ground the sharp edge of the blade does well which
is needed to remove tough weeds such as dandelions and mares tails.
I am hard on spades, forks etc as I am robust and tend to get carried away. This one has stood up to some serious hammer over the last few weeks
If you’re planning on doing any digging that’s more than turning over an established flower bed, then this will slice through the ground like its warm butter!
I persevered with a cheap spade that I bought from a well known DIY chain, but it was too flimsy. This is the best spade I have ever used!
Very nice tool just to have it . Quality is excellent .Very different from common spades .I believe it will
be very strong too. I recommend it to people who do not want to put more effort to carry a common spade
than the effort to do the real job which is digging .
