    Power monito
I have brought a lot of tapo things in the past and this just works. Download the app and you can monitor the energy consumption of whatever the plug is connected to.

Plus if you leave it on you can turn it off from anywhere in the world

    Great value smart plug
Great value smart plug with a useful app which I mainly use to monitor energy consumption. Not too big, so it fits in my surge protector without interfering with any other sockets. Integrated well with Alexa, and was simple to setup.

Work but know that this is wifi and not thread
Using with Home Assistant and the tapo app. This matter enabled plug does both. No power info in Home Assistant though, app only. Good value bit time will tell when the relay starts sticking as with all these smart plugs. This is matter compatible but it’s over wifi, no thread.

    Simple and works
Very simple to setup, app is clear and easy to use with great power usage stats, scheduling and timer. Integrated with Google home with no fuss and the best bit, no extra hub required.

Smart Plugs That Are Actually Sma
The new matter based smart plugs from Tapo are an essential item to add to any smart home. Whether you want to add smart functionality to a side lamp or turn your whole house into a smart home.

With the addition of matter, these are very simple to pair up to the app and integrate well with Alexa.
If you want to go down the rabbit hole of a proper smart home, then something mo0re advanced like Home Assistant running on a raspberry pi or a home server enhances these smart plugs further.
Home Assistant now has matter support, and these tapo smart plugs pair very well with the smart home software.

With the ability to monitor your energy use you can see where all that money goes.

I currently have these smart plugs attached to my Washing Machine, Tumble Dryer, Fridge Freezer and a WIFI enabled Electric panel heater. This gives me energy usage and costs for all these appliances. And of course I can control them remotely when out of the home.

And of course these cost less than some of the more leading brands but have more functions.

i have an extension lead plugged into a wall socket that’s hard to reach, so i got this remote switch to allow me to switch the extension on and off remotely.

i paid the extra for the matter enabled version so i would not be locked into a single manufacturers devices,

This was easy to set up and works almost instantly whether commanded from the tapo app (tapos’s protocol) or a home assistant server (matter protocol)

It’s very handy to be able to see the current consumption of the items plugged into this.

    At last, P110s with Matter!
Functionally equivalent and identical in looks to the existing Tapo P110 smart plugs other than the Matter device ID QR sticker, these perform fine.

Unlike the previous P110, the P110M has a Bluetooth interface for pairing like the P100s do which makes for much slicker configuration. Since they are Matter devices, they were also auto-detected by the Matter-aware apps on my phone & network (SmartLife, Tapo, Home Assistant) but I recommend cancelling those to start with and using the normal Tapo app device addition function. Once up and running you can use the Tapo app under Device Info to generate Matter codes for any apps or servers required.

One downside with the Tapo P1x0(M) design is that the manual control button is on the side. This is fine when using a normal single or double domestic wall socket but with most linear plug blocks you can’t put two P1xx next to each other if you need access to the control button on the righthand one.

Included in the box is a spare QR code sticker but remember once paired, you have to use the app to generate new codes for additional Matter controller connections, not the original one.

    Easy pairing with Alexa
Had this smart plug for quite a while now, always worked well! I paired it with my Alexa following the instructions on the Tapo app with no issues. I’m using it for a light and it does its job.

    TAPO Smart Plugs
These are so handy!! I suffer with chronic back pain and these magical plugs have helped me so much. I have linked them with appliances that are difficult to access and my life has become much easier. No more bending over; just a couple of carefully chosen words and Alexa is so willing to help me. Life is much easier now; I couldn’t manage without them.

Easy to pair with once you have installed the app on your phone.
Enables me to monitor the energy consumed by different appliances which helps me to see the real cost of using different devices and decide what to cut back on to save money. I must admit that once I had found out how energy hungry a couple of suspected devices really were I haven’t personally used them much but they are very useful for that.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersExcellent value smart socke
These are probably the cheapest smart sockets around and work really well. Very easy to setup with good control & features from the Tapo app.
They work well & easily with Amazon echo. They can also be integrated with other smart home platforms via integrations. Mine are linked to Hubitat & nodeRed. The power monitoring is very useful when trying to be more energy efficient. I have various graphs produced via nodeRed, but the facilities built into the app are good too.
The only reason for 4 rather than 5 stars is that 1 of my 8 has developed a fault. I suspect a stuck relay, it works via the app and monitors power, but when turned off the device connected still functions. It’s only been connected to a low power TV, others on devices with a higher current draw have been fine, so hopefully just a one off issue.

    Energy monitoring
We now have around 6 of these little gems dotted around the house used on various appliances to see what energy they are using and how we can save a little money. They work that well that they have been able to identify that our under counter fridge has actually broken (never stops running), so this has already paid for itself in the electricity we will be now saving on the new fridge! They are easy to setup, provide a great deal of control and useful insight into electricity usage.

I find this product excellent I specifically use them on lamps in the hall and landing and setting the on at sunset causes the light to come on at sunset ie a different time each day. You can set it to come on X minutes early if required. The energy monitor is very good you can set it up for the cost of you electric and get an instant reading as well various days, weeks, months to work out your running costs per item

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersA pain to setup with Matter protocol, but zero doubt Tapo will improve it with firmware updates.
Finally (!!!) a common protocol for smart homes. Smart devices can now be used with any ecosystem be it Siri, Alexa, or Google all sharing the same protocol. No need for manufacturers to target individual platforms. The future is finally here(-ish)

I bought this to control my home heating from work with Siri so I arrive to a nice warm living room. And it works great once (painstakingly) setup.

I’m a tech enthusiast and an early adopter, so I was expecting some hiccups anyway. Now in the process of moving everything over to Matter.

My problem was that the plug didn’t go into the appropriate pairing mode when first plugged it. And it didn’t give a blinking light the instructions said. So naturally, Home app repeatedly failed to see it and pair.

The solution: press and hold the power button on the side of the plug for 10 seconds until it flashes and turns off again, then quickly scan the QR code again and it should pair.

Obviously still early days for Matter in general and for this plug in specific. That said, I have zero doubt that Tapo will update the firmware to improve the pairing experience once they get some feedback. It’s currently running firmware 1.0 with no updates available.

    Good luck you’ll.

How far technology has come. I can now emulate someone if at home whilst travelling. I will link these plugs to a tv simulator and a desk lamp to emulate being at home whilst travelling. I opted for this brand as I have Tapo security camera and never had any issues with them.

Alexa, turn #### on. Thank you.
Works great with Alexa. I use it to turn cooling fan on in my bedroom from downstairs before I go to bed. And use the timer to turn light on and off while away from home. Energy use is hidden away a little in the app. Searched to find it.
    Highly recommended.

Oh my god..this is what you need if you want to be able to remotely control something and monitor the energy consumption. Simple to set up (through the app) and works perfectly. Got some very surprising data, what I thought had high energy consumption was in fact low and what I thought was low turned out to be high. At least I have a better understanding of the energy usage by device

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersWon't run car Granny charge
Purchased these plugs with the intention of monitoring my cars charging costs. The plug was very easy to set up and for the first two nights worked great. However came to charge car on the third night and nothing. Plug is responsive and turns on and off via the app or the button but will not run the car charger.
Very disappointed what initially worked very well now fails to do what I purchased it for. The plug still works but not to charge my car. The car draw is only 2.3kwh max as its a 3 Pin charger. I have ordered a older Kasa unit as reports are very positive regarding this purpose.

Update I purchased a heavy duty extension lead of 10m instead of my 30m extension. This must have been the issue as the plug now works as intended I think the load of 10amp over a sustained period was too much for the cheaper 30m extension. My fault not the plug.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersSmart sockets that really work
I have had a lot of problems with other makes of this type of socket not working. This really came to a head when I changed my main wireless point to a Ubiquiti one. The other brands would work for a while then drop out totally unreliable. The firmware on these sockets are so much better, they allow you to easily swap networks (I have multiple WAPs), when I set them up they downloaded a firmware update which pleased me as I realised they are being maintained. I particularly like the timer feature that allows you to time around sunrise and sunset. I have solar panels and a PHEV car. If I use the car at night I generally want to charge it from solar. The sockets turn the car charger on an hour after sunrise and off an hour before sunset. If I know that I need to use the car first thing then I can easily override this setting so that it charges but using full price electricity.

    Energy savers
Have installed a few of these Smart Plugs and after downloading the Tapo App I have found them very useful around the house to get to know exactly what I am using, data is collected on the App so you can view any trends. It is a bit of a learning curve but I now have been able to set and trim my timer functions for appliances. Apart from the outlay, I have saved by using them Wisely. Payback was easy, one plug was connected to my TV, set-top box, and speaker system as I could switch it all off and on when I wanted through the timer settings even taking into account that the set-top box would require an update through the early hours. Its also Alexa friendly as well

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersGreat Monitor of Power Usage
TP-link’s TAPO system is excellent and these are very useful additions. As well as having the standard remote plug features of scheduling, random switching and timer control they also have a built-in monitoring facility.

This allows you to see what electrical power a connected devices is using now (e.g., 20 watts) as well as the accumulated power over a period of time (e.g., 1.5 kilo-watt-hours in the past 24 hours). It soon becomes clear that reported power consumption in a device’s technical specifications can be different from actual power consumption. Interesting data can be observed, for example, the varying rates of power usage of a smart charger.

If the plug is programmed with the actual cost of the electricity, a running total of expenditure is also kept. This feature can be programmed for different electrical costs at different times or seasons. Where such costs and time periods vary from day to day, the plug cannot update the information dynamically from the internet. Each plug keeps its own data about power consumption and costs; there is no feature whereby the app might collate data to show overall consumption from several plugs, something that would be useful.

One small criticisim I would have of these plugs is that the corresponding section of the app needs a revision. Currently the new features of power and cost monitoring look very much like an afterthought and really do deserve a more prominent position in the app. This is something that can be sorted out in future developments of the TAPO app.

Overall, a product to recommend fully.

    Tapo Smart Plugs
I now have 4 of these brilliant Smart Plugs, one with power monitoring, so easy to set up, Tapo App is just brilliant. You can set them up on Timer , Away or set a Schedule, they work flawlessly, I think they are a great security option whilst you are away from home.
I was in Washington DC, wife was at home in UK, just to see if they worked via the app from the USA, well they did, instantly, these are great value for money, also the voice control via Alexa is great.

Golden Review Award: 37 From Our UsersWould get 5 stars if they paid a bit more attention to the energy usage interface
Disclaimer: I’ve only been using this plugs for 1 day so far, so it’s not gonna be the most in-depth review, but just from this 1 day alone I wanted to write a review to clear up some INCORRECT things that I read in other reviews before I bought it:

    1. I read some people saying that the energy monitor updates once every minute or every 30 seconds or something. Either they were on old firmware or have a faulty device. The energy usage monitor updates every 5 seconds from my experience (almost real-time). This is a huge plus for me as it was one of my major concerns

    Now, for my own points:

The plug does what it says it does. Was very easy to set it up out of the box, it measures energy, you can input your own cost per kw/h, and so on. But there are some features that could make it so much better and it’s strange they didn’t think about them.

-For example, I bought 8 plugs. I wanna have the option to not just group them by room, but also to look at energy usage by group, or as a total. I don’t want to have to click on each plug manually, read the usage and add them all together to figure out my electricity. Why is it not possible to view usage by group/as a whole? That would also give the option of showing other useful stuff like pie charts indicating which plug draws the most energy, etc.

-Another one. My bill is billed once every 2 months, and it’s not on the 1st of the month. The app should let you define your own billing period. Currently it only offers monthly.

-Also, for a smart app, it’s not very smart that it does not let you edit your account’s time zone, and always assumes you’re in the UK timezone. Not a big deal for me, but just to show you that they could have thought about user experience a lot better.

-And why is there no option for the user to export the data somehow, in case they wanna read it better in their own analytics app and their own interface? Seems trivial and adds a lot of value, but once again, it wasn’t done.

I can come up with several more but you get the point. The presentational interface for energy monitoring is very basic.

Would get 5 stars if it was designed a bit better.

    Great item.
I have bought several of these when they were on offer, and have just ordered more at the full price. They are easy to set up, and my new ones are for my Christmas lights – outside and my indoor tree – so that I can control them all easily from my phone. Also use them for the plug-in air fresheners and set them to come on for 1/2 hour first thing in the morning.

It's Tapo; it does what it says, what you want it to do and does it well.
    These are great.
The monitor works a treat and told me I needed to turn my fridge/freezer and my PC off due to excessive energy use.
I now eat and drink warm moldy stuff and live the life of a hermit without any access to my extensive Steam library or social media contact.
    Thanks Tapo 😉

    Very capable for monitoring
Had it working in a few minutes with no hassle. Very comprehensive capabilty to enter different costs at times of year and day as well though i havent bothered with that.
You can also get similar plugs which have a display built in but seems to me they may be awkward to look at if near the floor plus its just generally easier to look at from anywhere on a smartphone, plus can be controlled via the app from anywhere with internet connectivity.
I’ve got other tapo plugs which work flawlessly which is why i bought this make when i wanted a plug with energy monitoring specifically which my others dont have.

    Easy and reasonable range
I now own 6 of these plugs in total, and initially got a little frustrated and annoyed due to they keep disconnecting as per some of the reviews on here. So I did the firmware updates via the app and things did settle down a little and the resetting of the plugs became less frequent.
3 of these plugs are in my detached garage whereas my Wifi router is in the house and yet they still functioned as normal so that was a bonus but I still had to reset them from time to time.
Then due to other reasons, I attached a new wireless access point to my router rather than using the stand isp all in one hub job, and since that day I have not had to reset the plugs once.
And they work as per the label.
There are a couple of downsides in that these won’t integrate with the Kasa plugs also made by TP_link and also they don’t work with IFTTT but Alexa functionality is adequate.
Overall a good plug to hide away and voice control or use with Christmas lights maybe.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWorks very well, would recommend
I was looking for something reliable, of good quality, from a brand I trusted and most importantly: a solution which did not require a cloud account given potential security risks related to Internet of Things (IoT) devices.

I chose TP-Link over the cheaper lesser know Chinese brands as I’ve owned a TP-Link router for almost 10 years running OpenWRT and it has worked flawlessly.

The plugs were a breeze to setup and the Kasa app worked perfectly without an account; as long as you are on the same home WiFi, you can control these plugs easily and rapidly from your phone.

The Kasa app is also very well designed and provides plenty of functionality.

A few months ago I decided to invest in two Google Home Minis. I was sold on the idea of controlling devices via my voice. Unfortunately, the way Google controls these devices is via the cloud i.e. You link your Kasa account to Google then when giving Google Home an instruction like ‘switch on the lights’, the voice recording is sent from your home to Google’s servers for analysis, Google ‘understands’ the request and sends it on to TP-Link’s servers, which then sends the request to the plugs inside your home.

So I reluctantly created an account with Kasa. But before that, I spent a lot of time researching security and came to the conclusion the only safe option for a secure home with IoT devices was to create a separate guest WiFi. The new network is secured in such a way that the devices can only access the internet and cannot see or speak to each other. The network is also separate from my home network. This wasn’t fun and certainly not straightforward to setup in OpenWRT, but I just about managed.

Later this year, I was forced down the route of cheaper Chinese brands as I needed two 300W dimmers which TP-Link did not offer as part of their home automation devices (at least not for EU markets on 220V).

Last month I began experiencing issues with these plugs but not the cheap Chinese ones. Google could no longer connect to TP-Link and I had to keep asking Google Assistant to ‘Sync my devices’. This issues was well documented around several forums online. However it now seems to have been resolved (no problems in the last 10 days touch wood).

To summarise, I definitely recommend these plugs if you want to use these on your home WiFi using the Kasa App WITHOUT a cloud account.

I’m not sure I would recommend ANY smart home plugs to control from outside your home unless you’re really clued up on security. And if you are, then unbranded Chinese devices might offer you a better range of options at a lower price.

Golden Review Award: 37 From Our UsersSo great I have one on every socke
I now have around 15 of these in my home, one for every plug. At the press of a button I can turn off all the plugs when leaving the house. I can turn on the coffee machine at a scheduled time every day. I can set my air purifier to run for an hour before I go to bed.

It is excellent that you can schedule these to turn on/off at different times so you don’t waste electricity or forget to do something.

With the Kasa app, you are able to set up “scenes” – these are groups of switches that get turned off or on and the press of a button. For example, I have a “good night” scene which turns off all plugs in the house, with the exception of turning on my bedside phone charger.

The app is simple and easy to use, and only once in a year of owning these sockets have I had one instance of the app not being able to connect to one. Even when controlling over mobile data, or from an external WiFi network, the plugs are quick to respond.

Setup is pretty straightforward. It takes maybe one minute per plug, and all you have to do is enter your WiFi password in the app, select a name and icon for the plug, then wait a short while to connect.

There are two things which let this product down and take away one star.

First, they run pretty hot. Even when they are switched to off, they are warm. The kind of temperature your phone gets to when you have been using it intensively – so not uncomfortable to touch, but nonetheless concerning.

Secondly, the sheer amount of packaging. I never knew that a plug socket could have so much plastic and cardboard wrapped around it. There is a tray that the plug sits in inside the box, and some other bits of paper and unnecessary packaging slot inside. When you purchase an individual plug, it is somewhat understandable it comes inside a box or packet of some sort. But when purchasing this pack of 3 as a bundle, they were packed in their original individual packaging, inside yet another box. Like it wasn’t okay to ship three individuals together, you have to pack them in another box inside the shipping box…and none of this is marked as from recycled or sustainable sources.

For something that is designed to save electricity and in turn help the environment, the packaging situation seems a bit hypocritical to me.

    Edit – August 2020
After my wife complaining of her sleep being disturbed by having the LED light on these running all night (you cannot turn off the LED indicator. It is on constantly, even when the plug is switched to off), I have decided to try the Philips Hue equivalent plug. I must say that if they had been available at the time I purchased an entire home’s worth of these TP Link plugs, I would have bought the Philips one instead. The functionality is pretty much the same, yet there is no LED light running all night. This makes a massive difference in the bedroom; even though it might not sound like it would be a problem, having 5 or 6 green led lights on constantly all night is disturbing.
