I recently acquired the HUAWEI Matebook 16s EVO (released on 23/06/2023), and I must say, it has exceeded my expectations in every way possible. + 2.5k screen, TV streaming looks great, which was a reason why I chose this laptop
+ Quiet and runs fast, good for working on, fast loading times with bootup, many tabs etc
+ Quick charging through usb-c 90w
– “senary audio” driver for headphones has Chinese notifications pop up sometimes, 7.1 surround sound on my headset sounds weird and probably needs tweaking, which is annoying because the standard windows driver is usually ok
– webcam is inbedded into a popup key on the keyboard, which I don’t hold issue with just the general quality, if you need to do video calls a lot I wouldn’t recommend you use this webcam
– brightness feels a little dim unless it’s at full brightness which only gives 4hr~ battery life off the charger – at least the charger is a 90w quick charger
– RAM is slow, make sure you compare the speeds to other options!
Overall, good for work and streaming TV/movies, for the price range I don’t think you’ll get any higher than 2.5k@60hz, would have liked faster ram buy that’s probably why the laptop is cheaper than other options. Battery life is OK but could be better.
Great value for money.
Absolute Beast for 600. Great performance and premium alloy build quality. Able to play some new games at 30fps! Sufficient to edit basic videos in premiere pro or use it for big raw files in Photoshop
Love the product , great laptop, I’m an apple user but needed a powerful machine and this does the job. However, missing a USB C charger and also had security seals open. The item was visibly used, Amazon support was useless, told me to return at my expensive and re purchase and have to wait for the refund to go through 5-7 days. The also re order 2 days so I’ve got to wait over a week for the same product because Amazon send used items out advertised as new.
Skeptical at first -no regrets
I recently bought this laptop from Curry’s PC world and I cannot recommend this enough 🙂 I actually wanted a 16:9 for screen capturing but you can easily change that in display settings. The battery life is good and it also has fingerprint recognition which I find extremely convenient.
I’m in IT and have a lot of experience with these Huawei laptops. When they they first came out around 2018 they were still amazing quality and spec. However, The 2021 model with the 2K screen is mind blowing in terms of quality. I’m not going into performance because that solely relies on the spec, but you won’t find one with an entry level spec. I have not seen a better built laptop for quite some time, and my favourites were the 2018 until these 2021 models with the 2K screen. Many laptops now are plastic or a compound mixture making them look metal but this is great. IMO it’s better air flow than a Macbook Pro with better cooling and build quality. The camera in the middle of the laptop is nifty.. It’s basically a key on the keyboard which flips up (very James Bond) instead of being on the screen. It will upgrade to Windows 11, but you have to run the microsoft health check app to activate it. At first it says “We’re still checking for compatibility” but it’s absolutely fine and they’ve passed it on Huawei’s site, and will install after you run that Microsoft Health App. You cannot upgrade the RAM, as it’s soldered to the motherboard, but the SSD is easilily replaceable. It also has a backlit keyboard which can be set to on or off.
oft things turn out to be disapointing and many people are want to use the useless if popular adage of: you get what you pay for. My reality has often been: if your lucky you might get what you paid for; mostly NOT. at first like all chumps I was wary to buy this product due to the US and others led attack on Huawei, which is disgusting, that there might be some nefarious 5th column code secreted inside such devices from the next superpower, as if my deliberations and uses might be of interest to future entities.. The trackpad is large and a such a joy that it enhances the use of gates latest imperfect incarnation win 11. Although the screen is glossy it is joy to behold.Being a non-touch typist I don’t have a lot to say about the keyboard save that I did not find anything objectionable except the lack of dedicated home and end keys. As a software developer doing compiles and testes it never broke a sweat i.e. never heard the fans. the other complaints I might have are universal in that all laptops exhibit such as poor peripheral IO .e.g.numerical shortage of ports and slow signalling. that was the only reason I considered Intel based devices (thunderbolt). Unfortunately USB4 is not present on this device. IN these days of 20TB hard drives it take a considerable hiatus to run a check disk. Whilst I’m sure that vast iniefficencies lie on the software side of check disc the hardware is also lacking. YOU would have to be a curmudgeon to not appreciate this wonderfull challenge to apple stuff.
Good Package Quality and Price
I am very pleased with this laptop.
The package included a very nice, curved monitor of good quality which made the deal very desirable.
The laptop also has a decent screen and audio and the Ryzen 7 is fast enough to cope with all my business needs. The chassis looks high quality and the keyboard is firm. the screen is an unusual aspect but I really like it.
It is also quick to charge and is a bit lighter than my last (Acer) laptop.
The only real issues I have are that it is relatively slow to wake from sleep and the inbuilt camera is poor (and is positioned on the keyboard so it is looking up your nose!). However, I simply use an external camera and screen quality when using that is fine.
Early days but very pleased with it so far.
OK it’s costly but worth it, it will last years at this spec. Unfortunately not good enough for gaming but. Not really what I bought it for. For work and mild graphics processing its awesome.
A very good laptop – well-designed, well-assembled and easy to set up. All parameters are exactly as described – but one: the last picture suggests it has a touchscreen which it doesn’t. (Small font says it’s available on i7 model only)
I don’t need it, but some people might be disappointed.
Apart from that – a great machine for a fair price.
The only drawback after 6 months use – the camera integrated in the keyboard is a mistake. The camera is good but I can’t think of a more inconvenient location for it.
