Update: Squirrel will not use the lid but have seen him lean in through the holes in the first day to get nuts, however as I have seed out for the birds on groundfeeders he’s not bothered using it as its obviously easier to get to. So not much luck with this. I guess if there was no other food about then he might use it, but as i always put food out for the birds then its easier for squirrels to feed off of those.

Quality is ok, not great but not awful (i’ve seen much better looking quality ones). A slightly odd design with 2 large holes on the side, which are bigger than they look in the product pictures and not normally what you find on squirrel feeders. And as the shelves are at the side where a squirrel can stand on, then if its hung up I can’t see him being able to open the lid from the front (as nothing for them to stand on) and probably unlikely to be able to open from the sides either, but we will see. However the holes on the side are plenty big enough to get into if they are happy enough to go inside. Not sure a bird would want to go all the way in though.
So overall happy I’m happy with it – its just a question of whether the squirrels in my garden will be able to get the nuts from this particular design. I will report back when I know for sure they have managed to use it. 20 is possibily slightly pricey considering there are others of the standard type I’ve used before (i.e. shelf at front and no large holes at side for rain to get in) which looks a lot better quality and are the same price.
